Quickbooks desktop MAC and Monterey?

Hi jfreedy,

Thanks for the update. If the in-product update doesn't work on your end, you can reinstall your QuickBooks, as stated in the article: Update QuickBooks for Mac to the latest release. Then, just restore your company file afterward,

Be sure to know how to find your company file or back it up first before reinstalling QuickBooks.

Let me know if you need more help. Take care and have a good day!

@MichelleBh

One more question please:

Once QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac 2019, 2020, or 2021 is up to date with Release 13 to be compatible with Big Sur and Monterey, does it matter if the MAC computer has an M1 chip in it or does it have to have an Intel chip?

Thank you!

Thanks for getting back here, @billhdz. I've come to provide information about the software compatibility when running QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac 2019, 2020, and 2021.

The Apple M1 chip isn't currently listed as one of QBDT supported processors. To get more details about the software compatibility when running QBDT for Mac, please see these articles:

You might also want to reach out to our QBDT for Mac support to provide you with in-depth knowledge about the compatibility of the software running on Big Sur OS or Monterey which has an M1 chip or Intel chip.

Quickbooks desktop MAC and Monterey?

Thanks for joining us here, @JohnK6.

I have some information about your questions with QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac 2020.

The OS Monterey is not specifically stated as a supported operating system (OS) for QBDT for Mac 2020, which means that we haven't tested the software with the new OS yet. I suggest checking the support page from time to time to see the latest news about the compatibility requirements. Rest assured we'll update it once we get a confirmation that QBDT for Mac 2020 works with OS Monterey.

Please refer to this article to see further details: System requirements for QuickBooks for Mac 2020.

Also, release 13 (R13) - October 2021 is intended to update  QuickBooks Desktop 2020 and Enterprise 20.0. To ensure you can perform any tasks efficiently in the program, I suggest clicking on Install Update from the QuickBooks Update window.

Here's how:

  1. From the QuickBooks▼ dropdown, go to Check for QuickBooks Updates.
  2. If a newer version is available, select Install Update.
  3. When prompted, click Install and Relaunch.
  4. When the update is complete, QuickBooks for Mac automatically open.

After running the update, restart your computer. See this guide for details: Update QuickBooks for Mac to the latest release.

I’m also adding a link to our self-help article: QBDT for Mac. It contains topics such as banking, taxes, payroll, account management, etc. to guide you along.

Feel free to reply to this thread anytime if you have follow-up questions. I'm always here to assist you. Take care and stay safe.

Quickbooks desktop MAC and Monterey?

I have Quickbooks 2016 and don't remember the last time I did a backup. I just updated to macOS Monterey not realizing it wasn't compatible. Now I can't open my Quickbooks and don't know if I loss any of my files. I don't know what to do. I had tried Quickbooks online but didn't like it so went back to 2016. Now I am stuck and stressed because I can't access my quickbooks what is the best solution?

Making sure that you'll be able to access QuickBooks is our top priority, CathyL11.

Normally, after a certain time period, updates roll in for this software. This will give you an optimum user experience and includes some new and fresh features and improve the program functionality and fix troubling issues. You'll have to upgrade to the latest QuickBooks for Mac version so you'll be able to access your account.

However, if you're trying to access your company file, you can do a wild card search from the Start menu. I've added a screenshot for your guide:

For your reference, you might want to compare the features with the older versions to the new ones. Please go through this article for more information: QuickBooks Desktop Mac Plus 2022.

@CathyL11

Consider purchasing a one time license of QBD 2019, 2020, or 2021 to upgrade your QBD 2016. You can install the trial version of one those year versions to upgrade and open your file for the time being.

@MichelleBh

When will we get official confirmation from Intuit of Quickbooks Desktop 2019 MAC to be compatible with the M1 chip or at least compatible running under Rosetta 2 emulation until it's optimized for the M1 chip?

Thank you!

Quickbooks desktop MAC and Monterey?

Hello there, @billhdz.

I appreciate you for getting back to us here in the Community. Allow me to chime in and provide some information about the QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2019 version.

The Rosetta 2 software in Mac helps run apps that are originally supported on the Intel chips. The QuickBooks program would work if the emulator can execute the conversion successfully after an initial translation.

As of now, there's no update yet if the M1 chip is supported for the QuickBooks for Mac 2019. Since the Macintosh line recently transitioned from Intel to its CPUs last month. I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Support Team.

One of them will be able to provide additional information about the M1 chip. You can reach out to them through this link: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/prechats/offerings/QB-Mac/23435/view.

I've also attached an article you can use to install QuickBooks Desktop for Mac: Install and set up QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Please let me know if you need anything else about QuickBooks. The Community and I will be here to help you.

@Maybelle_S

Thanks for the reply.  I appreciate your help.

I understand that "The Rosetta 2 software helps run apps that are originally supported on the Intel chips".

But like other software companies, hasn't Intuit tested this to give assurance to Quickbooks users that it is fully supported?  After all, the M1 chip and computers have been out since November 11, 2020. That's a full year now.  Doesn’t Intuit test for this?  Don't you think that an official post about compatibility should be posted by now?  The frustration with a lot of users is that Intuit is not proactive when it comes to assuring users that Intuit has their back and that they are making sure that everything runs smooth moving forward.  All we want to know is that Intuit has done their job ( since it has been a year now ) and that they took the time to test and make sure that the version of Quickbooks desktop for MAC 2019, 2020, and 2021 have been optimized to work with these.  We just want Intuit to be more proactive and have our backs just like when we have their backs by using their products.  Is that much to ask?

Best Regards

Quickbooks desktop MAC and Monterey?

I have quickbooks Desktop for Mac 2021 version V20.0.6 R7 Is it ok to upgrade my mac to Monterey now as I just received my OS upgrade notice on my Mac. I have seen 2019 & 2020 mentioned as ready for the upgrade but just want to double check that 2021 is good to go. I have a intel chip on my new Mac so I know I'm good to go on my chip. Just making sure QB 2021 is now fully compatible for Monterey before I upgrade to OS Monterey.

I can help you sort things out so you can install QuickBooks Desktop for Mac seamlessly.

The latest release version compatible with macOS Monterey is R11. These are the following fixes included in this release:

  • Fixed a problem where a crash log was not getting attached to the created email on macOS Monterey.
  • Fixed a problem where a newly added Vendor wasn't selected after its creation.
  • Fixed a problem where backups would sometimes not complete on some configurations.
  • Fixed a problem where company files could be created with invalid characters in the name incompatible with OS guidelines.
  • Fixed a problem where hierarchical popup menus were not displaying correctly on macOS Monterey
  • Fixed a problem where the 'Last Backup' status was not showing up correctly in the QB Server app.
  • Fixed a problem where the bottom of the Preferences window was getting visually clipped on macOS Monterey.
  • Fixed a problem where the Job and Billable Status were getting cleared when saving a transaction.

I recommend downloading the QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2020 latest release through this link: https://downloads.quickbooks.com/app/qbdt/products. Once done, you can already install and set up QuickBooks Desktop for Mac with ease.
