Any update on this issue in the past couple of weeks?

QuickBooks requires Internet Explorer

Hi there, jcross-HHPC.

QuickBooks Desktop still requires you to use Internet Explorer 11 as the default browser. And, we don't have an update about this.

You can browse this article to learn what your computer needs on the current version: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2022.

If you have other QuickBooks concerns, don't hesitate to post again. I'm always around to provide the information that you need.

Hmmm......

I see we still get the same answers that we have been getting since I opened this thread.  Intuit will not install the necessary APIs to insure we have a secure browser option.  Anyone that continues to use IE 11 will be opening themselves up to an insecure browser.

Instead of the same redundant answer we get from the QB team, let's get this fixed!

I'm sure this is because Intuit wants everyone to go to QBO, but for some of us, this is not a feasible solution, both from a business or an economic sense.

Someone in another thread post the following troubleshoot

Note: This is the way to create a registry update file that will "fix" the QB Desktop limitation that requires
Internet Explorer 11 to run on Windows 10 and 11 which now don't have Internet Explorer.

Instructions:
1 - copy the text that is within the "= = = =... ===" lines (do not copy the "= = =" lines!)
2 - open Notepad and paste those lines into Notepad.
3 - Click on "File" in "Notepad",
click on "Save As"
and then save it as as "Add IExplorer Path to Registry.reg" (or whatever you'd like
to name it).
Just make sure it has the ".reg" suffix!
4 - the file should appear in File Explorer as a type of "Registration Entries" and not "Text
Document".
If it ends up showing "Text Document", you'll need to rename it to end with a ".reg"
suffix
5 - Click on the ".... .reg" file" and it will warn you that it is modifying the registry. You should
select "ok" to install the "fix".
= = = = = = = = = = = =
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Iexplore.exe]
@="\"%ProgramFiles%\\Internet Explorer\\iexplore.exe\""
= = = = =

You may try it and please note "Do it on your own risk".

Thanks @Fiat Lux - ASIA it's a promising solution. Could you have your QA/testing department validate the solution and report back?

Perhaps by creating a Windows 10 and then a Windows 11 virtual machine with some versions of QB desktop?

Again, report your finding here for the community that's getting very impatient.

Thanks

@Fabg

We are not Intuit employees and just fellow community members like you. We haven't come across any issues regarding IE11 to date and didn't have a chance to test this proposed solution.

Thanks to @jaapkrijger and @pcsdpo sharing this information in another thread. They have verified that the solution works.

Hi @Fiat Lux - ASIA

I tried your solution and although Quickbooks does throw a couple of errors when it first opens, you can bypass them and it seems to work properly.  Thank you so much for the tip!  Hopefully soon Intuit / Quickbooks will have a more "official" solution that doesn't throw errors so users aren't uncomfortable.

I just found this thread that includes a post by a Quickbooks employee who has at least acknowledged that an update is coming (even if they weren't able to provide an ETA just yet):

Inuit/QuickBooks - Stop using IE!! It is no longer supported on PCs with Windows 10. I've been having to manually export and download transactions from Chase Bank every month. Also, any of your help topic links that pop up in your desktop solutions have to be manually searched for in Edge or another browser. I used to prefer the desktop version of QBO but not I'm having doubts. Get your head's out of the sand and your shizzle together and fix this issue once and for all. It's been a problem for over a year already.

Hi there, jraustin1.

Let me share some insights about the issue of why you're unable to open your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

When using QuickBooks, you'll want to make sure your computer meets the system requirements of the version you have. If it doesn't meet the requirements, you'll want to change your computer or find other versions that support your operating system.

To learn more about the requirement of the recent version which is QuickBooks Desktop 2022, you can visit this article: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2022.

If you're using other versions, you can search for them through our Help Articles. This also helps you get acclimated to the software. They can be accessed at the following link: QuickBooks Desktop Help articles.

Should you have additional questions or concerns working with the QuickBooks software, please click on the Reply button to leave a comment. I’ll be glad to help you.

@Charies_M sorry but this is infuriating. Groundhog day : every month or so a new "level 1", "level 2" or "ADMIN" support person comes here and lectures how to reinstall Internet Explorer or use "a supported computer".

That not what's being expected.

Users report that it's still not working with payroll. Have you fixed or do you have a real solution for QB running in modern Windows 11 or latest Windows 10 update? You know the ones _without_ Internet Explorer?

Users expect that Intuit addresses the issue, fixes this dependency once and for all, and release and new version that will work on the most recent versions of Windows WITHOUT Explorer.

Could this be clearly understood and addressed ?

Hi @Charies_M

Thank you, we are well aware of what Intuit says are the current requirements for running Quickbooks.  That is not in doubt.  We've had IE 11 installed on our Win10 computers and Quickbooks has been running well.  The problem is that IE 11 will be retired and no longer supported by Microsoft on June 15th, 2022.  This means it would be impossible from a security perspective to continue use of IE 11.  This is why a solution is needed as soon as possible from Intuit / Quickbooks to no longer require the use of IE 11 on computers.  Please advise when a solution is available that no longer requires the use of IE 11 for Quickbooks.  Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

So now it's 2 years later and even closer to the IE decommissioning.  To meet other security requirement we have been required to prove IE11.

I am astonished at the number of ways intuit can screw something up.  Over the years it has been fascinating to see how clueless the developers are as to how the users interact with the product.  This is another classic issue (again).

I would like to clearly spell out what is happening here. Intuit is not throwing resources at this problem because they want people to move to their online version. What they are failing to understand is that their customer base are small businesses that depend on cash flow. When I can't opened Quickbooks to send and receive invoices. That is a cruel approach to demanding people switch products.

This is insane. IE is already discontinued for several weeks and I just bought Quickbooks and now I can't activate my copy. This is not something new. We all know for years that this is going to happen and nothing is done with it.

QuickBooks requires Internet Explorer

Hello All,

I received the message about IE 11 and QB wants me to update my Desktop Pro 2019 as a result. I won't be purchasing a new version of the Desktop version for a few months (moving to the online version is totally unacceptable to me).

As I only use Quickbooks to record invoices, sales receipts and expenses (I'm a one person mail order business). Do I even need to be concerned with this issue at the moment? I don't use any add on services such as payroll or banking. I'm just not sure what circumstances require I need IE11 in order to use Desktop Pro 2019.

Thanks

@Kenteman

Make sure not to disable or uninstall IE11 on your machine. You may still need it whether you upgrade to a one-time license for QBD 2021 or a subscription license for the upcoming QBD 2023.
