Q B Sucks

the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will be retired and go out of support on June 15, 2022, for certain versions of Windows 10.

Will QB desktop continue to work after June 15, 2022 or will Intuit completely ignore this as they have all other Internet Explorer 11 issues?

Hi there, @MRB6.

Microsoft's support for Internet Explorer is coming to an end shortly, so we're switching to a different solution as our embedded browser. QuickBooks Desktop will continue to function as intended because of these changes.

As of the moment, we don't have the timeline for this yet. Rest assured, you'll receive a notification email as soon as the update becomes available.

The Community is open 24/7 if you need help with your QuickBooks-related questions. We'll be more than happy to provide assistance.  Keep safe and stay hydrated!

This is great news @Kurt_M !  Since it's been 4 weeks since your post, and we're now just over 2 months away until the official retirement of Internet Explorer 11 from Microsoft, are you able to provide an ETA on when this new solution will be available?  I look forward to hearing back from you!

still quite sad that they've had a year of notice (nevermind that the writing has been on the wall for the end of IE for several years now), and yet they still don't seem to have anything planned that they can even speak of.

Hi @JessT

I'm just checking in since I haven't seen an email from Quickbooks and the information page for Quickbooks Premiere Desktop still lists Internet Explorer 11 as a requirement.  Now that we're just over 1 month from Microsoft's retirement of Internet Explorer 11, is there an ETA for when Quickbooks will release a fix so that Internet Explorer 11 is no longer required?  Please let me know and take care.

No way I'm updating to any subscription Desktop product until I know about this IE11 situation! We're a month away from the IE11 retirement and the QBD 2022 Plus (subscription) browser requirements still state "Internet Explorer 11".

we're now 1 month away and given Quickbooks approach and attention to this, I think its safe to assume the for anyone OTHER than QB2022 SUBSCRIPTION holders, there will be no solution forthcoming from Quickbooks.

QB has made it abundantly clear that they want everyone moving to QBO(preferred) or at least a QB desktop subscription to continue. They just refuse to admit that for a significant portion of their customer base constant internet connectivity is NOT a given, nor the desire/capability to continually incur another monthly expense to be continually deluged with new "features" that no asked for, while ignoring the existing PROLEMS with their base software.

We are now in the process of moving our accounting processes to a different platform as Quickbooks has demonstrated almost no concern for their Desktop customer base other than to tell them to "move on" or pay more.

This would have been so unnecessary fi Quickbooks had just fixed the KNOWN ISSUE with IE years ago rather than choosing to route all their resources to "'flash and glamor"!

Hello there, @jackienerd. Welcome to the QuickBooks Community.

I'm here to discuss some details about the discontinuation news of Internet Explorer (IE) for certain versions of Windows 10.

As of the moment, we do not yet have an official statement from our engineers regarding the demise of IE. They may still be working on options for what to do once it stops. That being said, it's best to check your email for any updates or in-product pop-ups about this (if you're using a supported version).

In regards when visiting in-product webpages, QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2022 does requires Internet Explorer 11. You'll also want to check the this resource to further know what your computer needs in running QBDT 2022: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2022.

Additionally, just in case you continue to use Chrome or without IE (given that it has been discontinued yet), you may encounter certain troubles when viewing webpages such as the Bank Feeds, Help menu, and so on. I'm still waiting for an official update on what action to take before and during the IE shutdown procedure.

I've got your here a site that contains a compilation of helpful articles and guides that you can browse whenever you need reference in performing your QBDT duties. Feel free to access them here: QuickBooks Help page.

Should you need additional assistance in doing any of your QBDT tasks that you can't find in the articles, please leave a reply below. I'll take every opportunity to help you achieve your goals. Have a good day and keep safe always.

Divina,

Its a constant amazement how oblivious to the issue Quickbooks chooses to remain. This has been a KNOWN issue for several years now, but Quickbooks has continued and still does continue to release new versions with a SERIOUS known incompatibility issue. To have released the 2022 version still requiring IE when Microsoft had ALREADY announced the definitive retirement date for IE demonstrates a total disconnect between Quickbooks' "engineers"/product designers and the real world the rest of us actually use Quickbooks in.

Continuing to release a product such as this demonstrates an astounding level of irresponsibility. Continuing to defend and echo "our engineers may be working on it" and then pointing people to pointless re-hashes of unrelated hints and issues is not effective either.

As I noted in my previous post, after many years, we're just moving to a new accounting platform solely because of the level of irresponsibility and unresponsiveness of Quickbooks as a software company.

It looks like they've fixed it for QuickBooks 2020 and 2021 and probably shipped 2022 with the fix or will shortly:

RE:"As of the moment, we do not yet have an official statement from our engineers regarding the demise of IE. They may still be working on options for what to do once it stops."

It's weird that you wrote what you wrote because Intuit has already shipped at least two, if not three, different versions of QuickBooks that now use your new custom browser, which as Intuit states is "reliable and will include critical security updates." Given that Intuit is so proud of their new browser, it's odd they didn't tell you.

You'll never get and official statement from Engineers. Engineers don't make such statements. Product Management does.

However, there's this, which seems like an official statement to me, given that you've published it here in the community:

"Internet Explorer 11 is the current browser for QuickBooks Desktop, but as of June 15, 2022, Microsoft won’t support it. ... All supported QuickBooks Desktop versions will start to use our custom browser. It’s reliable and will include critical security updates.2"

1. This custom browser will only be supported in QuickBooks Desktop Pro/Premier/Enterprise/Accountant 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 versions.

Well... so much for "reliable and will include critical security updates."..

Quickbooks2021Premier help won't actually OPEN a windwos

If IE is not installed, QB will NOT start and produces the old "quickbooks has a problem" dialog that indicates IE must be turned on for Quickbooks to work.

maybe some old-fashioned programmers would help rather than "engineers" ! QB sounds and acts more liek MS support everyday...

I am so glad we didn't fall for the "subscription" trap from Quickbooks..

Intuit says they fixed it, as I pointed out above. Perhaps you don't yet have the release they fixed it in?  Did you check?

Yes, they published a 'fix", which at partially resolves the issue, but, at least for 2021Premier does not yet solve the whole problem and creates a couple of new "bugs".

Current release, all updated, yet the F1 key now doesn't work properly and for some browser activities, Intuit's "own" browser gets used and for others, the OS default browser is getting called and spurious javascript errors are still being thrown during startup and at various points, particularily in the preferences sections.

And if you actually uninstall IE, you still get blocked unless you use the registry hack posted in Fix to the issue of Quickbooks won't open without ... (intuit.com) the hack

While the hack does generate a couple of errors on startup, at least it restores access to Quickbooks.

All of this points to a rushed programming project with inadequate testing time allowed for. So unnecessary given that was a years-old known issue.

Fortunately, our parallel migration to a more robust accounting platform is progressing well, even though the cost is will be somewhat higher.

In the meantime, we'll keep an old legacy PC for Quickbooks.

the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will be retired and go out of support on June 15, 2022, for certain versions of Windows 10.

So according to the latest post (https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/update-products/update-quickbooks-des...), we're supposed to have a new, built-in browser to use.

However, when testing  QB Pro Plus 2022 with the latest update installed (R5), you can't even open QB without IE being installed.

Which means one of two things. Either QB still relies on IE, which leaves a huge security gap (but then again, I've complained for years that Intuit never cared about security for reasons I won't go into here again), or developers didn't bother to remove from the launch process, a check for IE.

So did they not bother testing QB on a machine without IE or are they lying to us about not needing IE?

Either way, its disgraceful.

And the only browser process I'm seeing running when launching QB is the cefSharp.browserSubprocess, which is certainly not "their new custom browser".

This is NOT fixed. Our networks Proxy blocks all internet traffic to Quickbooks internal Browser and identifies it as IE 11.  I'm on the latest version and did all Updates to QB Desktop Enterprise as of 6/24/2022!!  I have over 250 company files and now have to scramble to find a new solution as QB is Dead in the Water. Support is no help.  This system never has properly supported enterprise customers, and they will be losing our business ASAP!  I have the maximum license possible and have no options provided other than move to Online.  Enterprises can't move that fast.  Please help!

Hi there, Mgruby.

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community. This isn't the type of feelings that I expect you to have, and we know how much time it can take when something isn’t working the way you need it. I also appreciate the troubleshooting steps you've done to fix the issue about Desktop crashes or displaying unusual behavior. With this, I'll be sharing extra details about Internet Explorer 11 and ensure you can perform an alternative way so you can get back on track.

Internet Explorer 11 is the recent browser for QuickBooks Desktop but as of June 15, 2021, Microsoft will no longer support it. However, we have a built-in browser that replaces Internet Explorer 11 in QBDT. Then, last June 10, 2022, all supported versions of QuickBooks Desktop will begin to use our new custom browser.1 that's reliable and will include critical security updates.

All you have to do is update to the latest release to make sure you receive future security updates. Since you already performed this, rest assured that your software is up-to-date and always has the latest features and fixes.

Additionally, you can also migrate to QuickBooks Online where security and critical updates happen automatically. Please know that while Internet Explorer may not be utilized for some online services, it's still needed for QuickBooks to function correctly.

You can open this article to view further details about our new custom internal browser that works specifically with QBDT: Use our built-in browser in QuickBooks Desktop.

Lastly, you may refer to this article to see the detailed steps on how you can get your desktop file ready to start importing to QuickBooks Online: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

Please don't hesitate to let me know in the comments if you have other concerns about data management and questions about using IE in QBDT. I'll gladly help. Take care, and I wish you continued success.

@Mgruby

You have to change your proxy setting to accept the traffic. Otherwise, consider hosting your QB Desktop program on a 3rd party service provider for the time being .
