transfer Quickbooks on-line data to Turbotax

What is the best way to get the data for the companies I manage from Quickbooks online to Turbotax online? This was a nightmare when I did my taxes in 2018, 2019 and 2020 requiring that I use the non-support Explorer web browser in Windows to download my Quickbooks online data to a desktop version Quickbooks.

When I did my taxes in March 2020 I was told this hack method would no longer be necessary in 2021. Have instructions been published for any new methods of transferring data between Quickbooks online and Turbotax? Are integration features coming in time for the 2021 tax season that aren't yet available?

Frankly, doing my taxes is SUCH a pain (taking WEEKS of effort and hours upon hours of support calls) with the broken integration I've had to go through in previous years I think I will just move to a different accounting system that has better integration with taxes if I have to do this again.

This isn't the kind of service we want you to experience, @39772br.

Yes, you're right. The ability to directly import your data to Turbotax is not yet available. In the meantime, you can download a trial version of QuickBooks Desktop so you can export your data from QBO to QBDT, then QB Desktop to Turbotax.

You can also refer to this article and scroll down to Export from QuickBooks Online for more information: Export data file from QuickBooks Online to Desktop

Once done, follow the steps below to transfer your Quickbooks data into TurboTax:

  1. From the TurboTax File menu, select Import, then click From Accounting Software.
  2. Select QuickBooks (2020) and click Continue.
  3.  Follow the onscreen instructions.

Also, I'd recommend using this article to guide you in importing QuickBooks into TurboTax: How do I import QuickBooks data into TurboTax Business?.

If you have any other questions about sending your tax info, I recommend contacting our TurboTax Support team. They have a dedicated community site to answer all the tax and product questions that you have.

On the other hand, you may look for a third-party application that could help export your data to TurboTax. To check for apps compatible with QBO, just check out this link: https://apps.intuit.com/app/apps/home.

Wow! This connectivity still isn't fixed! Just unbelievable. This has been years with no connectivity between quickbooks online and turbotax.

By the way, Microsoft has made it clear they are no longer supporting the old versions of Internet Explorer and that it will no longer be available for use at some point. Even last year I hit lots of bugs using explorer for downloading quickbooks data using the quickbooks extension (i.e. with missing text, and my having to just guess with moving the cursor a certain amount of times to hit the right options). At some point the Quickbooks extensions to the legacy internet Explorer will just stop working and then there will be absolutely no way to do get data from Quickbooks online to turbotax.

It is just utterly incomprehensible that Intuit continues to tell customers to use these buggy internet explorer extensions for connecting Quickbooks online and turbotax when the whole thing is liable to stop working at any moment. Your guidance isn't sufficient. I hit lots of issues last year with UI flakiness, etc. This procedure is getting worse every year. It's already reached the point that you can only do it with huge determination and support.

The only conclusion I can make from this is that supporting the ability to import Quickbooks online data to Turbotax is a super low priority for the company. Maybe this is something that vanishingly few customers care about.

Why should I use quickbooks if I can't connect the data to turbotax easily? That is the whole reason I bought the system as a self employer to do my taxes. Definitely switching programs this in an unacceptable issue.

When will we be able to transfer tax documents from Quickbooks Self-Employed to Turbotax?

Mich_S

transfer Quickbooks on-line data to Turbotax

I want to ensure you're able to tax data from QuickBooks Self-Employed to TurboTax, @chelseazotta.

You can prepare and transfer your tax documents from January to April.

Before sending your information to TurboTax Self-Employed, review and enter everything in QuickBooks. Your tax information can only be sent to TurboTax once. It will not transfer automatically if you update new or missing information later. However, you can still manually enter it in QuickBooks and TurboTax.

If you upgraded to the Tax Bundle, make sure you log in to TurboTax and QuickBooks Self-Employed with the same account. Filing fees are covered by your bundle subscription.

Find out what QuickBooks won't let you export. Certain deductions in QuickBooks aren't exported to TurboTax. TurboTax or your tax preparer can assist you in determining which deductions you should claim.

Once you're ready to transfer tax information to TurboTax, follow this: Send QuickBooks Self-Employed tax info to TurboTax Self-Employed or Live.

Feel free to keep us updated if you have other concerns about taxation or QuickBooks. We're always here to help. Take the best care!

What companies have you looked at that can do what QuickBooks online does and file or handle taxes without making the process difficult? I agree that it’s crazy the integration of these two software services is trash. I get there big push is for you to use the book keeping software (monthly/annual fee) and pay for an accountant monthly/annual fee and the account charge you fee to prep/file the bookkeeping for your taxes. I guess it’s like you say it’s not in there interest to integrate these software services to make it easier for us. Imagine the kickback they would lose if we stop selecting the bookkeepers they are always trying to push on us.

the helpdesk is no better.  This morning I "chatted" with a support specialist from QuickBooks.  After 30 mins of waiting and back and forth, she revealed she could not determine if my QBO and TT were "connected", whatever that means.  so she punted me to TurboTax by sending me a dead link.  Then gave me a TT support help number.  That person told me I need to discuss this with QB--see where this is going?  So I did what they stated.  Called a different QB help number only to talk to a computer that texted me a link that brought me here.  This is so stressful on top of an already stressful process.

I have been trying to download a trial version of Desktop for over 3 hours. I've chatted with a person online who would not give me a link to this.  How can I get my Quickbooks online to Turbotax desktop without this?

Hello @PCat,

Let me help share how you can import your data from QuickBooks Online (QBO) to QuickBooks TurboTax.

Currently, the option to import QBO data to TurboTax Desktop without the conversion is unavailable. It's best to convert QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) before following the importing process.

Therefore, here are the links where to can download a trial version of QBDT software, install it, and convert your QBO data:

Once the conversion is done, here's how you can transfer your data:

  1. Open your tax return in TurboTax.
  2. From the TurboTax File menu, select Import.
  3. Select From Accounting Software.
  4. Choose QuickBooks.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the transfer.

In addition, here are articles you can read to learn more about the import:

Lastly, I've also included this reference for a compilation of articles you can use while working with us: Help Articles for QuickBooks TurboTax Desktop.

If there's anything else that I can help you with aside from the migration if preparation for your tax filing, please let me know by leaving any comments below. I'll be here to lend a hand. Take care always!

transfer Quickbooks on-line data to Turbotax

I have 2019 QB desktop and have used the TT Business import for years.  I now have to move to QB online as they are not supporting the product after 5-31-22.  I don't have a large business or that many transactions but I prefer the connected process as it allows me to make changes in QB and update my tax return as needed.  Will I be able to do that using my old desktop software or will I need to get an updated version?

Is there a projected date for the connectivity issue to be resolved.  There must be a lot of long term clients like me who rely on these features?

I can not get my quickbooks to transfer to Turbotax. I believe it is due to different log in info for each account. However I read that simply changing the info to match will not fix the problem. Speaking with anyone that is knowledgable seems impossible. I can't tell you how many hours I've spent on this!

Hello there.

Let me share information about transferring your data from QuickBooks Self-Employed to Turbo Tax.

You're right. Changing your sign-in info to match the two accounts cannot resolve the issue. You can choose what account you want to keep the sign-in info. Then, you can reach our Customer Care team to help you with other options to move your data from QuickBooks Self-Employed to Turbo Tax.

Here's how:

  1. From the Help menu:
  2. Go to Help (?) and select Contact Us.
  3. Or from the Assistant menu:
  4. Choose Assistant.
  5. Note: If you’re using the QuickBooks Self-Employed app, tap the + button and select Ask QB Assistant.
  6. Enter "talk to a human", then select the enter icon.
  7. Select the options till you are prompted to choose a way to connect.

We have a workaround to move your data even if you are going to keep the sign-in info for both accounts.

First, you can get your reports from QuickBooks Self-Employed. Follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Self-Employed.
  2. Go to the Reports menu.
  3. Find the Tax details report.
  4. Choose the correct tax year.
  5. Click Download and save the report.

Then, you can manually enter the info into Turbo Tax Self-Employed. See the instructions below:

  1. Open a new browser window and sign in to TurboTax Self-Employed.
  2. Start or resume your tax filing.
  3. When you reach the section about income, use your Tax details report to complete the fields.
  4. Finish filing your taxes.

Here is an article you can read for the complete details: Send QuickBooks Self-Employed tax data to TurboTax Self-Employed using different sign-in info.

For future reference, I'm adding this article to help you estimate your income tax in QuickBooks Self-Employed: Automatically estimate your income tax in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Feel free to comment below if you have questions about moving your data from QuickBooks Self-Employed to Turbo Tax. I'm always here to help. Have a great day.
