@Fiat Lux - ASIA  Unfortunately that ship has sailed (or whatever metaphor you would choose to use) as part of the process, we upgraded all of our client files to 2022, and reverting to 2021 would require loss of days of work. It was a mistake for us to upgrade to 2022, however we cannot reverse course. I should have known better.

Your best option is to host QBD 2022 and your company files on a hosting provider for now. It seems the company is focused on fixing the problem for the upcoming QBD 2023.

Wallboard - after spend a few hours on chat and sharing screen with one agent, stepping through many of the same things I had tried already but not including the full uninstalled/cleanup/reinstall, we finally did a repair install which required a reboot.  Upon completion of that, of course it crashed again (more quickly than ever).  I then reconnected with chat to a new agent and they tried to upsell me on QB2022 because 2021 is not guaranteed to be compatible with Windows 11.  I was done at that point - I just paid to upgrade to 2021 and not ready to pay to upgrade again nor to go to subscription service.  I'd just like them to support their product.

Like you I think it was working till the recent updates to the embedded browser (like everyone in the world, they used Internet Explorer for a long time but Microsoft has pulled the plug on support).  In the c:\users\xxx\appdata\intuit folder structure is a qb dot net log that points to the embedded browser as the culprit behind these issues.

During some (very limited) experimentation, I think if I turn off the network on my pc, I can avoid the crashes.  So one possibility for my workflow, assuming they don't actually try to fix the error because "it's not supported on Win 11", is to connect, sync bank accounts, and then go offline for the rest of my reporting.  This will turn out to be a real pain but might be doable if under a crunch for time.  Or like you, I can fall back to a PC running Windows 10 and probably be fine.

Looking into the errors in these logs it doesn't look like a large issue - and if Intuit would take logs and provide to their engineers, a fix could probably be churned out in a few minutes.  But getting it escalated to them may not happen until a lot of customers start hitting the issues and push back against the "lets sell you more services and software" solution.

Have you tried to reinstall/run your QBD 2021 in compatibility mode Win 10?

I tend to agree it is a browser based issue. As many times as I have clicked to send the error report, and I assume the others here with the issue, a supportive corporation should have noticed. This support does not fall on deaf ears for me.

Since I have found my work-around I will keep using my version until EOL. I will be frank with others about my issue and the support given from Intuit. I'm just a small customer with a big mouth.

I ran compatibility troubleshooter which suggested Win 8 (10 was not an option).  When that did not help the troubleshooter came back and told me that it just wasn't compatible with windows.

The issue in the log points to the qbrowser component which relaces the built in use of IE.  I also found that if I disable network before opening QB I'm fine.  Some of the little graphics around the page don't work because it can't connect to QB.  And, obviously bank feeds don't work.

Still, if I xan stay up long enough to stnc accounts i can work offline to get reports done.  Insane I should have to do these hoops.

The support folks suggested I upgrade to 2022 but I just upgraded to the latest version supplied by techsoup for nonprofits, which is Premier 2021, and a full retail price implementation is out of the question.

I'm struggling with the same issue in Windows 10 and QB 2020 Pro.  I'm thinking it has to do with the integrated browser update they did as well.  I tried to fully wipe out everything and do a completely fresh install on the affected machine to no avail.  Like another poster, I installed on another machine (also WIndows 10) and everything worked fine.

I tried to make sure Internet Options on both machines were exactly the same to see if that helped.  It did not.

One thing I just realized is that the new machine (which I primarily use to test other software) does NOT have Chrome installed on it like my production machine which is experiencing the issue.  I have tried uninstalling it to see if this helps, but am wondering if the person who got it working on another machine has the same scenario.

Unrecoverable errors.

Hi there, PHC.

It would be my pleasure to help you with any question you may have about the unrecoverable error in QuickBooks Desktop.

There are various causes of Unrecoverable Errors and the codes that may come with it in QuickBooks.

Before performing necessary troubleshooting, let's make sure to:

  1. Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.
  2. Create a backup of your company file.

You can also use our built-in browser in QuickBooks Desktop that works specifically work with QuickBooks Desktop for Windows.

If you're still getting the same error, it is best to contact QuickBooks Desktop support. This way, they can investigate further and check the cause of the issue to provide the best resolution.

As always, I'm here anytime you need further assistance. You can reach out to the Community by posting a response below.

As a nonprofit I was encouraged to upgrade to latest version (discount rates apply only to v2021) so I upgraded.  My old 2019 worked on Win 11 but this one doesn't.  After working with a couple different agents I was finally told that I should yupdate to 2022 because 2021 is not guaranteed compatible with Win 11 (a lazy answer).

I can get in and do some things between crashes.  If I immediately sync my bank accounts and then disconnect the network I can work offline - the browser issues seems to be okay when it can't communicate on the network.

Not ideal but I can't upgrade to 2022 and I can't fallback to windows 10 so it is what it is.

Probably not helpful.  Hope you can get it working!

On both machines I have only Firefox and Edge browsers.

All is fine on the new laptop, but I still keep trying on the desktop. Even after the latest "Critical Fixes" update on both machines I will still error out on the desktop.

I still cannot get "File Doctor" to open up and run on the desktop from the "Tool Hub" but will launch and run on the laptop.

I am the original poster. I have spent hours troubleshooting on the desktop. Tier 1 phone support, although helpful during a two hour consult, did not cure my issue. It went away for only the one evening. Next day it was back.

Like another poster in this thread, if I pull the ether net before launch, I can get some things done.

I can and have used all the tools in the Tool Hub on the lap top (Intel) but cannot use File Doctor on the desk top (AMD). That is weird on it's own. There is no issue with my QB file as it runs fine on the lap top.

On the desk top I have even re installed Windows and QB Pro 2021 and still get the unrecoverable errors. So I was forced to buy a new lap top.

Next time I open QB on my desk top PC I will post the UN-recoverable error number. Or numbers if I am hard headed and determined to make it work. If more than one number occurs when it decides to error out on subsequent tries. Error logs, dump files whatever. Let me know what may help fix this.

EDIT:

Reminder that all was well until a QB update sometime mid June. Whenever the June program update came through.

We take customer satisfaction seriously and are glad to hear from you, Wallboard. Allow me to step in and get you pointed to the right support.

Unrecoverable errors can arise in a diversity of scenarios, including but limited to the following:

  • First attempt to open a company file
  • Any Windows in a business file must be closed
  • Making a backup
  • Creating a portable document format
  • Obtaining a payroll update

If you've already tried out all the steps provided by my peers above, and still getting the same issue, I'd suggest getting in touch with our QuickBooks Desktop Support.

They have the tools required to create and submit a ticket about this on your behalf. To ensure we address your concern on time, check out our support hours. Here's how to get in touch or chat with us:

  1. Go to https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/contact.
  2. Choose your QuickBooks Product.
  3. Select your QuickBooks version.
  4. Give a brief description of your issue and click Continue.
  5. Then choose a way to connect.

Additionally, I recommend visiting this link: Resource Hub. This will provide us with resources and videos about managing QuickBooks Desktop accounts, income, expenses, inventory, and running reports.

If you have any other questions or need anything else in QuickBooks, let me know in the comment below. I'll be more than happy to help you in any way I can, Wallboard.

Gosh, I sure hope someone at Intuit is actually reading this stuff. The troubleshooting steps that keep getting re-posted don't help, and PUCC_Treas obviously is onto something. I'll add my name onto the list of folks who started experiencing this problem around this time (June-ish 2022) after updating QB Desktop 2022. Have tried repairing, the tool kit, backing up/restoring, etc, etc. This seems like a SW bug affecting users of Windows 11--please fix.

It is too soon to tell yet, whether this makes a difference.  But I had observed that if I turned off the network and ran standalone I experienced no crashes.  So yesterday, doing my monthly thing, I got in long enough to sync bank accounts and nothing else then killed the network.  Later I went into settings and disabled this one.

My thinking is the less network interaction the better.  So far today I had it up for a few minutes.  As I've been typing I notice Quickbooks is no longer running although I didn't intend to close it.  (I didn't get a crash prompt, it's just no longer active).  It's possible I did something like click the x on the window while tabbing around to different windows on my laptop.  If it does or does not appear more stable then I'll report back in a few days.

In the meantime, the answer I was given by support is that QB 2021 lists Windows 10 compatibility not Windows 11, so I should not expect it to work - I should either pay to upgrade again and to either online or 2022 version.  However, as a nonprofit getting it for a discounted rate via techsoup, the latest available version is 2021.  So I have to live with it or find an old laptop/desktop somewhere and load it up there.  For the moment I am working around the issues, but I would rather they support the product.

Just a followup on my earlier note.  This morning before my hours of creating monthly reports, I first went into the preferences and edited a setting that hopefully turns off some of the QB optional messaging that happens in the background.  In the logs things were pointing to failure in the new QBrowser component, but I wasn't intentionally ever using it.  So I found the setting that turns some of that off.

Specifically, I went into edit preferences... General settings... and selected "Turn of pop-up messages for products and services."

Today, for the first time since about May or June, I had an hours long session with no crashes.  It would be nice to know if anyone else can duplicate this result.

We're all on a path to some serious superstition-informed behaviors--LOL.

@PUCC_Treas , I can say that I've had that feature turned off for months or more--so at least for me, that is not a solution. Still, I scrolled down the options and under Service Connection, I unchecked Allow background downloading of service messages, on a hunch that maybe you're onto something. Will report back if this holds off future errors.

Perhaps unrelated, and on the superstitious note (too many variables changed at once), a couple days ago I went and uninstalled all the .Net and VB/VC++ etc sort of MS updates applied since May 2022. That did NOT solve my issue. Yesterday, Windows 11 updated itself and installed a few .net updates and another one of those Windows cumulative service packs. I opened Quickbooks and left it open overnight in the background. Today, after finishing some other work, I was able for the first time in weeks to open the Receipts Manager without encountering an immediate unrecoverable error (I've restarted QB 20ish times in the past few days trying to finish July bookkeeping). Maybe this, as someone else mentioned, is about leaving QB open for a while before using. Or maybe it's one of the changes I made. Either way, it seems connected to SOMEthing that's happened in the past 2 days.

I'll report back.

I have also noticed QB just disappearing with no error log. It would launch and then disappear. I thought I may have triggered it. So I tested by launching and keeping my hands off. Still happened.

I am about to reply to the poster below you. With out altering any settings I have been using QB error free on my troubled machine for a few hours now. Perhaps the Windows update that installed last night corrected something.

After reading your post I figured I give it a go on my troubled machine.

Windows updated last night and I have not made any changes to QB options or Windows.

Checked for QB updates and there were none.

I have been running a couple of hours now with no errors. Bank feeds, invoicing, estimates and emailing them from QB. Hasn't been this stable in awhile.

So at least 3 of us who've had issues with 2021 on Win11 for months are now working.

I see you said you had no QB updates.   I hadn't been in for a couple weeks and did have updates when I checked, but I do also have windows update done regularly so I cannot say which may have helped more.  I'll poke through the MS writeups on recently installed updates and see if there are any seemingly related changes.

I'm with @Wallboard and @PUCC_Treas : I just finished all the work I've been trying to do for weeks, all without more than a single hiccup (QB seemed to just quit--no error message. Glitched out when I was importing bank feeds while also entering some receipt details--I chalk it up to a glitch in the matrix). No errors, and I was able to access the Receipt Manager which for weeks has been giving me issues with that unrecoverable error everytime I tried.

MS must have fixed SOMEthing? Intuit certainly hasn't changed anything.
