Restoring from backup

Why is restoring a file taking so long? It's been over 30 hours now and I'm not a big company. This seem excessive. I am following all the instructions. Can anyone help, i'm stuck not knowing if I can work with my files or not!

Restoring from backup

Hi there, plhprod.

Thank you for coming back to QuickBooks Community. I'll share steps to ensure you're able to restore the file faster without any issues.

There are times that that browser is full of frequently accessed page resources. It might cause unusual behavior in the program, such as taking too long when restoring a file. To fix this, I recommend logging in to your QuickBooks account using a private browser. This is to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue, and private browsing doesn't store local files or cache.

Use these keyboard shortcuts based on the browser you're using.

  • For Firefox or Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl + Shift + P.
  • For Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift + N.
  • For Safari, hold down Command + Shift + N.

If it works in incognito, I suggest clearing the cache of your regular browser. This removes the history or log of sites so you can start with a clean slate. You can check this article to see the steps: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online.

If the steps above didn't work, use another supported browser as alternatives.

You can refer to this article to see additional information about restoring your accounting data and how it works in QuickBooks Online: Back up and restore your QuickBooks Online Advanced company (formerly ChronoBooks).

Please know that the Community and I are always here to help you out to make you and your business easy and functional. Have a great day!

Restoring from backup

Dear ChristieAnne,

Thanks for your reply.  Before I try your answers though, is there a "best"way to cancel what seems to be the current restore, the one that has been going on for the last day and a half?

Restoring from backup

Let me help you cancel the current backup, Plhprod.

You can follow these steps:

  1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete keys altogether on your keyboard.
  2. Click Task Manager.
  3. Select the QuickBooks Online program, then click End task.

Once done, try to restore the backup file again.

If you need more help, don't hesitate to get back to this thread. We'll reply as soon as we can. Take care!

Restoring from backup

Well I have done all suggested, used the task manager in Firefox, Chrome and Safari.  no difference anywhere.

The backups are all still listed as going but it's been 4 days now and no restore has happened.

I need to get into my books and work but I'm afraid if I do all will be lost when the "restore" finally kicks in!

And then the next one....and then the next one...Which of course it will when I want it the least.

If this is the pattern and it takes over 4 days to do a restore(I'm not a big company) , then it will be the middle of May before I can use my books...but I'm still paying you $150/month for what?????

I can't understand why there is no way of cancelling the task?

Restoring from backup

Hi plhprod!

In QuickBooks Online Advanced, restoring your data can only take 5 minutes to 1 hour depending on the amount of data. Since the steps shared by my peers don't help, I suggest reaching out to our Support Team. They'll be able to investigate and see what's causing this issue.

  1. Click the (?) Help icon and enter Talk to a human (then type it again when prompted).
  2. When asked by the bot, enter "Restore".
  3. Select I still need a human, then proceed with Contact us or Get help from a human.
  4. Choose either Chat or Callback.

I've added some articles on how to backup, restore and make a copy of your data:

We'll be here if you have other concerns. Keep your posts coming.
