Anyone have any recommendations

No reliable program to replace QBD Pro/Premier/Mac. Our experience is that Pro and Premier data files
start to take a long time to run reports at the 150-200 MB size. In addition, Pro and Premier
become more susceptible to data corruption and other funky issues if they get to be too large. You should run the Condense Utility to lower your file size or purchase a 3rd party condense service.

Hi kuehl87,

This is an old, old post, but a very entertaining one! Unfortunately it abruptly ended. Here I am, one year later with the exact same problem, except that I am using QB Pro 2021.

Did you ever figure out a resolve?

How big is your file size?

I have multiple QB company files, but my main one is 117,804K. However, my issue is with how long it takes QB to simply load, well before I've even selected which company file I want to open. Plus, this is an issue that just started happening. QB was loading just fine (pretty fast) until just a couple of weeks ago. Now it's dog slow!

Your file size should be fine.

Did you upgrade OS to Win 11?

Are you running QB locally?

Install the trial version for QBD 2021 Enterprise. Did you encounter the same issue?

Yes, I'm running it locally, no server, one user, and yes, I'm on Windows 11, but I didn't just install it recently. This slow load problem is out of the blue.

Not so sure I want to go down the path of installing a different version unless someone confirms that would solve this problem. (Unlikely anyway since my version of QB has been working just fine.)

Installing multiple versions on your machine is unavoidable to isolate the problem. We found many cases of Windows updates conflicting with QB updates. Fyi, I am still running multi QBD versions (including Premier 2021) on Win 10 Home without any issue.

Hi there, @brentgray22. I'll share some steps to ensure you'll be able to fix your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) access issue.

To start, let's ensure that you meet the minimum system requirements to run QBDT 2021 to prevent any issues while accessing it. Also, make sure that it is updated to the latest release to have the recent features and product improvements.

If verified that you meet the criteria above, we can perform some troubleshooting steps to resolve this. To do so, you can run the QuickBooks Diagnostic Tool. This diagnoses and fix issues with Microsoft components the QBDT program uses. Let me guide you on how:

  1. Open the QuickBooks Tool Hub. If you don't have one, download the most recent version of the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  2. Next, select Program Problems in the Tool Hub.
  3. Click QuickBooks Program Diagnostic Tool. Let the tool run. It can take up to 20 minutes.
  4. Once finishes, restart your computer and relaunch QuickBooks.

If the same thing happens, we can uninstall and reinstall your QBDT fix company file issues by renaming your program's folders. No worries, because it won’t affect your data at all once reinstalled.

I'm always here ready to lend a hand if you have other concerns managing your account. Have a good one and stay safe.

Like others on this thread have stated, those suggestions are not helpful and do not solve the problem. The support people repeatedly post the same so-called suggestions, but they are not helpful with this particular issue.

I've never tried installing and running multiple versions of QB at the same time. Didn't know you could do that. Doesn't that mess with the company files? I know sometimes the company file gets converted to work with a different version. Surely, you're not duplicating the entire company file to use a "second copy" with the other version are you? That would not be prudent.

You suggested I install the trial version for QBD 2021 Enterprise. Where is the best place to download that?

And FYI, for anyone else following this thread, I just now opened QB and it took 5 full minutes to just load the app itself, no company file at all at that point.

"UPGRADE YOUR FILE".......??????????????????

lmao.   There is NO "upgrade" for any QB version.  Every revision in QB starting with its first introduction is not an 'upgrade'.  Its simply a bloated pig.

100%!

And for anyone who is following this resurrected thread, I have now tried switching to a brand new install of Enterprise and also turning off my WIFI during startup, and neither makes a difference. Whether it's Desktop Pro or Enterprise, QB is taking about 6 minutes and 20 seconds to load. And that's even if no company file is being loaded initially. Something bizarre is wrong and I'm still stumped.

Quickbooks Desktop is simply a slow running software.  I even use the .qbw on my local drive because the network drive is even slower.  It doesn't matter how many diagnostics you run, it's a pig.  Same problem on all my customer systems.

I agree it is slow-running software. But my main beef, which started about 9 months ago, is that it takes FOREVER just to load. 6+ minutes! It's slow once it's running, too, but for any app to take 6+ minutes just to start, is unbelievable! It didn't used to be that way, and I've changed nothing on my end that would cause it to load so slow.

I am curious if others are experiencing such slow load times or if it's just me?

Open the sample file. Did you encounter the same problem?

This issue is occurring far BEFORE I am trying to open any file, sample or otherwise. I am talking about just loading the app itself, before I select any data file. So, which file I open after the app has loaded is irrelevant at that point.

Install the trial version of QB Desktop 2020 and 2021 Enterprise to compare.

Yes, totally ridic!  I'm already on 2024 and it does the same thing, whether I'm trying to print a report, backup, generate a check.  Mine started when I went from disc to download, (forced) in 2020.  Its def the program, as I had downloaded the 2020 software to a brand new computer that had no other programs loaded.  They want to try to get you to go over to online, don't do it!  I'm staying with Desktop Pro Plus as irritating as it is.

Try closing any background reports, like accounts receivable or payroll detail report before you close out of QB.  It remembers your windows settings and will want to render whatever reports you have open before allowing you to do any work.

  <Opinion mode on>

Don't fall for the "try Enterprise" trick, it is the same software with a handful of extra reports and options you probably do not need.  NO SPEED IMPROVEMENTS. This is one of the most predatory, unethical companies on the planet that you could do business with.  When they do get fined from class action lawsuits, they happily pay the bill and just keep shafting their customers again and again.  Lie, cheat and swindle customers out of 68million, then pay a 6 million fine.  For them, its not illegal.  Unethical class action fines are just a cost of doing business to this company. NOTHING matters to them except making the stock go up over last year.  With so many competitors on the market, and lack-luster new customers, they can only squeeze the jewels of existing customers to wring out more revenue for the same-old-same-old rotten to the core sluggish, bloated software.   <Opinion mode off>

I appreciate the suggestion, but I close out of everything, even the current company, before I close QB. It makes no difference on the long load time of the app the next time I open it.
