track changes made to account name

WE recently noticed the name of an account was changed (abbreviated). We would like to know which user made this change so that we can ensure it does not happen again. Anyone know of an audit trail that will track this change?

Welcome and Thanks for joining the Community,

 

The Audit Trail in QuickBooks Desktop lists all added, deleted, and modified transactions. Let me guide you how to open this report.

 

Here's how:


1. Go to Reports at the top menu bar.
2. Select Accountant & Taxes.
3. Select Audit Trail.
4. Customize the dates in the report's page.
5. Click on Refresh to refresh the page.

After following the steps provided, you should be able to see and check the audit trail.

 

In addition, audit trail you can find the following information:

  • Who made the changes.
  • When the changes were made.
  • What the changes are.

Is there a way to narrow the audit trail to changes made to the account itself or to the chart of accounts?

Let me provide some additional information about the audit trail report in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). 

 

You can customize the Audit Trail report to track changes made to the specific accounts. Let me walk you through the steps:

 

  1. On the Audit Trail report, select Customize Report option,
  2. Click Filters.
  3. On the Search Filters tab, type-in and select Account.
  4. Select the Account drop-down arrow.
  5. Choose Multiple accounts...
  6. Look for the specific account, and mark as checked.
  7. Click OK.
