After a routine Microsoft system update, my QuickBooks will not open, and even my other intuit products will not open. Thoughts?
Which QBD edition and version do you have? e.g Premier 2019
Which Windows OS do you have?
Hello @jonathanw80,
Let's run QuickBooks as Administrator so you can relaunch the software. To do so, right-click on the QuickBooks icon on your Desktop, then select Run as Administrator.
But if it doesn't work, you can repair QuickBooks to update the installation permissions so you can open the software.
In addition, here's an article you can read to learn more about how you can repair QuickBooks: Repair your QuickBooks Desktop for Windows.
Lastly, I've got you these articles for ideas to help manage your account and related tasks: Help Articles for QuickBooks Desktop.
Keep me posted in the comments if you have any other questions. I'll be here to lend a hand.
When I attempt to 'run as adminstrator' the application will not open for me. I've also tried the repair approach and it was unsuccessful as well. It processed the repair and told me it was successful but once complete I still could not open the application. Thoughts? Thanks for your help!
Jonathan
QuickBooks pro 2018 and windows 10
Hello, @jonathanw80.
Thank you for trying the steps provided by my colleague above to resolve the issue you're having. Since you're getting the same problem, I encourage uninstalling QuickBooks and do the clean install. This process won’t affect your accounting data since your company file and everything it holds isn’t involved at all. For your detailed guide, check out the steps provided in this article: Clean install QuickBooks Desktop.
If the issue persists, I encourage reaching out to our Support Team so resolve the issue. For the support's contact information, open this link.
If you need assistance with anything else, mention me in the comment section. I'll be ready to pop-in and help. Have a good day!
QB 2020 premier contractors edition, request install updated, when I try to update, error messages, can't even open my desktop
I can help you fix that, LJ19.
It's possible that some components of QuickBooks are damage that's why it won't respond or open anymore. Generally, if a user gets an error upon installing or updating QuickBooks, you can run the repair tool to resolve the issue right away.
Before diving, please make sure to create a backup of your company file first. This way, you can restore your data if you ever run into problems. Then, restart your computer to close the programs that may affect the repair. Once done, follow these steps to repair your QuickBooks Desktop:
To learn more about this process, you can read this guide.
If you need some reference in dealing with your other tasks, you can read our articles here.
I'm just a few clicks away if you have any other concerns or further questions. Have a great holiday.
When I click on the QB icon it just circles. I am unable to even get to open a company
20
I will try this. I have been away at another home and have not used this computer since Oct. 2020 I wonder if that is why?
I can not even get that far
I really wish I could talk over the phone. I don't like working like this. does anyone have the tech support number?
I want to ensure that you'll be able to open QuickBooks and utilize it with no issues, @Kendra22.
If you've already tried performing the steps above and the problem continues, I suggest contacting our Customer Care Team. They have the tools to help identify the root cause of this matter and apply a fix.
Here's how you can reach them:
You can use a sample company file to contact out support since you're unable to open your QuickBooks.
However, I'd also like to share this reference that you can scan through, which talks about the different actions to be taken if you're unable to open QBDT: Learn how to fix issues when you can't open QuickBooks.
Feel free to reach out to me if you have additional questions, I'll be right here to help. Have a great day
If you are running QBD 2020 on Win 8.1 or 10, try reinstall your QB.
I am curious if there was a solution ever found. I am now having this problem. I can't get any of the Intuit products to open up. My laptop worked just fine and a few days later this problem was there. I had no Windows updates in the meantime yet something happened in those few days. I get various error messages and researched them all and done the suggested fixes and still nothing. One fix was to uninstall and reinstall my program and I uninstalled
my Quickbooks Premier 2020 for Accountants and now it won't reinstall.
My Windows is up to date, and I spent 3 hours with Quickbooks support with no help.
I am now trying to contact Microsoft support but they now only support chats and waited one day for 2.5 hours with no luck. Am trying again today.
I had a person with lots of computer skills try and he had no luck.
I am dead in the water with all my Quickbooks companies and clients with payroll especially on my laptop.
This was very disappointing that this has been an issue with other people and yet Quickbooks Dedicated Tech support to Proadvisors seemed to have no idea of what was going on. They were clueless and suggested everything that I had already tried and then gave up. I did not feel they had the skills to be on this dedicated tech support team for Proadvisors. I have been with Quickbooks since 1995 and a Proadvisor since 2005 and I have never had this much problem before with Intuit products. All my other programs on my laptop work fine. Just Intuit products. You would think Intuit tech support would have some idea of what is going wrong.
Good morning, @lgrbook.
Thanks for chiming in on this thread.
We thank you for your years of loyalty to the QuickBooks program. Keep us post with those results from Microsoft after getting in touch with them.

Install the trial version of QBD 2021 to isolate the issue.
Thanks. Thankfully I got thru to Microsoft Support Chat and have been working on it with them for over two hours. Still not solved, but hopefully will be soon. This all seems still surprising that Quickbooks doesn't seem to know about this issue.
So I just finished almost 3 hours of tech support with Microsoft. They are saying it is an Intuit problem, not Microsoft. They checked everything on my laptop and found no problems. They are saying the Intuit products are not compatible with my Windows 10 build. Programs on my laptop work except Intuit products.
So they say it is Quickbooks and Intuit that needs to fix my problem, not them .
So I am having to go back to Quickbooks support even though yesterday after three hours, they said it was not their problem. My desktop computer has the exact same Intuit products and they are working. My desktop is up to date also on Windows but has a different build per Microsoft and so per Microsoft it is Intuit's issue, not them. So I really need a solution as I use this laptop to do client's payroll and I am dead in the water!
Half of our team is running QBD 2012 - 2021 on Win 10 build 20H2. You can install the trial version for QBD 2021 to make sure.
Thanks for following up with those additional details, lgrbook.
Since Microsoft referred back to QuickBooks, I recommend reaching out to a member of the Desktop Support Team. Agents have the necessary tools, such as the ability to screen-share, to take a more in depth look at the details to determine what's causing the problem in your Desktop account.
The following linked article provides a way to get in contact with the team outside of the product.
Please feel free to reach back out if you have any other questions. I'll be here to help in any way that I can.
I already spent 3 hours with my Proadvisor Tech Support for desktop on Monday with no help.
I am back right now with that support team again, going thru the same attempt again. Not sure if it will get solved.
I am begging when I call for the most advanced tech support person there but I am not transferred, I go thru the same things that have already been done multiple times. I really need help.
Hello lgrbook.
