Our Banking Reconciliation process runs excessively slow in a new test environment. We have found that the issue is only happening when a user accesses the company file over a mapped drive with the FQDN (fully qualified domain name). When mapping a drive with the ip address, the process runs normally. Has anyone experienced this, or a similar issue? Thanks in advance.
Good afternoon, @alexsupertramp.
Welcome back to the Community!
The best route for your account running slow would be to run a repair on your QuickBooks. Here's how:

Hi Candice. Thank you for responding but I don't believe this will be a fix, since the company file is working when accessed over a share via the database server ip address verses it's hostname/dns name. I discovered that the fqdn hostname is required for multi user access from this forum, so i hoped someone else might have a similar answer here.
Since you have mentioned sluggish performance with the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN), it's needed to examine the network environment and QuickBooks' capabilities and requirements to ensure optimal performance, Alexsupertramp.
To ensure consistent connectivity, please confirm that the FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) resolves accurately to the server's IP address. This can be effectively checked by using networking tools such as nslookup and ping commands, which help diagnose resolution issues and response times.
Additionally, please monitor the integrity of the .nd (network data) file. This file contains critical network and multi-user configuration details and needs to accurately reflect the current server information. If some errors are found, it's advisable to delete and recreate the .nd file. QuickBooks is designed to automatically generate a new .nd file once the company file is reopened, ensuring up-to-date and accurate configuration.
Furthermore, I'll provide articles for you to learn more about multi-user mode and to map a network drive in QuickBooks Desktop:

hi @EmaicaD. thanks for your response.
ip resolution: we already know there is resolution from the fqdn to the ip because other quickbooks functions work. it's only slow during the banking reconciliation process. however, it's worth mentioning that we are using a hosts file alias to resolve the fqdn b/c there is no dns relationship b/t these the db server and workstation.
.nds file i will look into this.
please let me know if you have any other thoughts. again, we don't have this issue in one environment where we use the fqdn but there is dns resolution b/t the assets.
@EmaicaD also, we have tested, anecdotally, large file transfer speeds between the problematic mapped drive and workspace client machine, and 2g files are moving fast/normally.
can you provide anymore insight on what to look for in the .nds file?
I appreciate your active involvement in this matter, Alex. I’m here to assist you in evaluating the configuration and identifying any additional elements that could affect the speed of your operations.
The Network Data file (.ND) contains the IP address of the server where your company file is hosted. Please verify that this IP address matches the current server's IP, as any discrepancies can lead to connectivity issues.
In addition, the server name is found in the middle of the file, while the QuickBooks Database Manager version is listed at the end. Ensure that these details accurately reflect your current setup.
The .ND file also includes the port number used for communication. It’s important to confirm that this port is open in your firewall settings to allow QuickBooks to function correctly over the network.
If you notice any corruption or incorrect information, consider deleting or renaming the existing .ND file and use the QuickBooks Database Server Manager to rescan your folders. This will create a new .ND file with updated settings.
For a more in-depth understanding of the .ND file and effective troubleshooting steps, I recommend checking out this informative article: .ND files in QuickBooks Desktop: .ND files in QuickBooks Desktop.

Hi @Aldren18 and team. I have discovered that this issue is not related to ip address vs. fqdn but it is directly related to the multi user setting on the database server. If multi user hosting is turned off from the client installed on the database server, then banking reconciliation works normally from a workstation client over a mapped drive. If I turn multi user hosting back on, the problem persists.
Can you escalate this to a team that could help me and my IT/network team understand how/where this bottleneck is happening with the banking reconciliation process while multi user hosting is on? Again worth noting, when hosting is enabled, the process completes but it takes many times longer. Like, 2 hours versus 2 minutes.
I appreciate you for providing detailed information about this issue, Alex. This isn't the experience we want you to have. Rest assured, I can guide you in the right direction on how to address this.
I see how this feature would benefit your business and the program. I recommend submitting feedback to our product engineers, who can explore this suggestion and consider adding this option in future updates.

Hi @NicoleAscencionS and team. I'm not clear on how your reply applies to my situation. What I need is some guidance on troubleshooting steps to take where banking reconciliation is taking many times longer when multi user hosting is enabled on the database server, compared to when it is turned off from the client installed on the database server. There are no errors. The process completes but it takes sever hours versus minutes, when multi user is turned off. Conversely, we don't have this issue on a second, separate infrastructure where qb is used.
Thanks for keeping us updated, alexsupertramp. We aim to resolve this issue and enhance the performance of QuickBooks during bank reconciliations.
I can also see from the previous responses that all possible troubleshooting steps to address this matter have already been shared. These include using the QuickBooks Tool Hub and mapping network drives.
In this case, it is best to contact our Technical Support Team via chat or by phone channels. They can take a closer look at your company file to identify the reasons behind the significant speed differences when using QuickBooks on a mapped drive compared to using it on an IP address.

We are also having a very similar on a brand new laptop connected wirelessly to the network. We've done all the network troubleshooting we can and improved as much as possible. There aren't any network issues and the server hosting the company file host many company files and no one else is haven't the same issue.
We had no issue prior to replacing the existing laptop with anew Win 11 laptop.
hi. one thing we found is that the issue is not fqdn vs. ip. it is the multi user hosting on the db server.
if we turn off multi user hosting on the database server, the problem does not occur. also, if we do the process locally on the db server, even if multi user hosting is enabled, it does not occur. so, this is our workaround, to have users do it locally on the client installed on the db server.
i would like to hear from you if you have any further findings. conversely, let me know if you have any questions.
