Buy nowIs there a way for my invoice to show the details of the tax being charged? For example, our state allows counties to apply a surtax, so the rate will vary depending on where the work was performed. I wonder if it is possible for the tax to either show the breakdown, or to show the tax descriptor (i.e. Seminole County)
I have some information to share about tax detail on the invoice, dLearned.
Once you enable the Auto Sales Tax feature in QuickBooks, you can click on the See the match option. This will show the detailed breakdown of your sales tax. I've added a screenshot for your visual guide:
To track sales sales tax automatically when you make a sale, you can follow the steps below:

Yes, I'm aware of all of that, however it doesn't display on the invoice (it just says "tax"). While, if they follow links to see the tax rate, they can, the invoice that displays in their email as an attachment (per their request) does not show anything more than tax.
Hi dLearned,
Allow me to step in and clarify the tax on sales transactions.
Showing the tax breakdown on invoices or sales receipts is not a feature in QBO. You can try finding a third-party app to create invoices showing the breakdown of taxes.
On the other hand, if you'd like to see references for QBO, just visit the main support page and click More topics.

I've recently migrated over the the "new invoice" layout. The old invoice layout showed the "T" on the invoice next to the items that were taxed. The new invoice layout removed this feature. If you're able to forward feedback on to those making these decisions, I'd like this feature to be carried over so that my customers can see exactly what items I'm applying sales tax to. Seems simple that by checking the tax box when creating my invoice that there should be a way to display that item was indeed taxed. Shouldn't have to use a third party app or manually add it on our own. Your prices keep increasing but I'm finding more and more reasons since your update to switch to a different software. Just my opinion.
I know how essential it is for you and your business to show the details of the taxes on invoices,
jinny.
Currently, the option to show the tax details on invoices is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO). We understand your need for functionality and would love to hear your thoughts about your experience. This enables our product developers to consider using the new layout.
Here's how:
You can also track feature requests through the Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online website.
