File access on desktop QB Pro

Which QB Desktop year version do you have? 2022 or 2023?

Hello, @EJ2003. We don't want you to have this kind of experience when trying to access your QuickBooks Desktop Pro account. Let me provide you with some insights so that you can successfully access your account.

When your subscription period ends, you're unable to use or access them unless you re-activate the service. In that time, you won’t be able to edit your data with your inactive license. But, you can renew your subscription or export your data. To view your data after 1 year, you’ll have to renew your subscription.

For QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus subscription customers, we strongly encourage these customers to make the switch to QuickBooks Online. QuickBooks Online provides many great benefits over desktop, such as remote access, enhanced flexibility, and real-time collaboration, and is where we’re prioritizing our innovation. ‌In case, you still continue to stay on Desktop Plus subscriptions, we’ll continue to focus on product maintenance and security.

On the other hand, other restrictions while you work in QuickBooks 2023 R3:

  • You won’t be able to access 3rd party apps.
  • Only company file admins can access view-only mode.
  • View-only access is currently only available for Pro Plus, Premier Plus, and Enterprise.
  • View-only mode might not work in multi-user mode. To access your data, switch to single-user mode before you cancel your subscription.
  • If you’re on Intuit Cloud Access/Hosting with Right Networks, view-only mode won’t work.
  • This applies only to QuickBooks Desktop licenses already installed on your computer. View-only mode won’t work in case of reinstallation.

For more details, see this article: Renew your subscription or use view-only mode in QuickBooks Desktop 2023.

Alternatively, I'd also suggest contacting our Customer Support Team. They can provide and offer you the best options so you can access your company files. Here's how:

  1. Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Select the Contact Us button.
  3. Enter a brief description of your concern in the What can we help you with? field and click Continue.
  4. Choose a way to connect (Chat or Callback).

File access on desktop QB Pro

@EJ2003,

If you want people in the community to be able to help you, you will need to share more details about your issue.

  • Which QB version do you have?
  • Do you own a license for that version?
  • What do you mean by 'hijacked'?
  • Does the QB program load?
  • Do you get any errors when trying to open your file? What's the error?
  • Can you open any other QB files?
  • Did Intuit tell you that you cannot access your data?

Let me know if this helps.

(Please cheer/kudo if you like my answer.)

That's a horrible idea. Desktop is the most full featured QB version and Online is the least.
