Accidental deletion of transfer

We have transactions come into quickbooks from a credit card processor that I transfer into our bank account. I did a transfer but saw later that I had already previously done this so I clicked delete on the newest one. Now when I go to reconcile I'm off by the amount of the transfer and have 2 line items for the transfer. I don't know how to undo the deletion and am concerned about doing the transfer a 3rd time to make up for this.
What is the easiest way to correct this mistake?

Accidental deletion of transfer

Hi there, AndreaMK.

If you've deleted your transactions in QuickBooks online, the option to undo it is unavailable. That said, you'll need to recreate it. You can pull up the audit log to see the deleted transactions and review the information as a guide.

You can also check on your register if there's a duplicate transaction. If there is, you won't need to recreate it.

Here's how to check for duplicates in your bank register:

  1. Go to Transactions, then select Chart of accounts.
  2. Look for the bank account where you've recorded the transfer.
  3. Search for duplicate transactions.

You can recreate the transfer if there's no duplicate of your created transfer funds. Ensure you've entered the correct ending balance before reconciling your account.

Furthermore, you can visit this article to learn what to do if there are errors at the end of your reconciliation: Fix issues at the end of a reconciliation in QuickBooks Online

Don't hesitate to comment if you have more concerns about reconciling your account. I'm always here to help you.

Accidental deletion of transfer

I found the duplicate under the account register and removed it so there is now only the single transaction but I am still getting the error that my beginning balance is off by the amount of that transaction, this error happened after I added and then deleted my 2nd transfer.  I had started the reconciliation before all this happened and had to save for later because there were missing transactions that needed to be entered. I'm not sure why the balance is off by the same amount after I added the duplicate and after deleting the duplicate.

Accidental deletion of transfer

Thanks for getting back with the Community, AndreaMK. I appreciate your detailed information.

The beginning balance is your account's total at the state of a period you're reviewing. When you notice an issue with your beginning balance for an account you've reconciled before, you'll want to consider:

There's a number of things which can cause beginning balance issues:

Here's how to fix issues for accounts you've reconciled in the past:

  1. Make sure your opening balance is correct before checking the beginning balance.
  2. Confirm you're reconciling the correct account for the correct month by going to Transactions, Reconcile, then choosing an account from your Account ▼ drop-down list.
  3. If you have multiple accounts with the same bank, or more than one is of the same type, be sure you're reconcile the right one.
  4. If your account's connected to Online Banking, match and categorize all of its downloaded transactions before initiating a reconcile.
  5. Review any discrepancy reports to identify if anyone's mode a change that affects your beginning balance. If anyone has, you'll notice a "Your account isn't ready to reconcile yet." message before you start reconciling.

Once the beginning balance is correct, you can start reconciling. If you see issues in the middle of your reconciliation, you can review our Fix issues at the end of a reconciliation article for more details.
