The one who can update the My Company page of your company file is the one who has a role that allows full access to all areas of QuickBooks.

 

I suggest you check the roles and permissions that you set in your company by running a Permission Access by Roles report:

  1. Go to the Company menu and select Users. Then select Users and Roles.
  2. Select the Role List tab and choose View Permissions.
  3. Click the roles and then select Display.

You'll get a report that shows all roles and their permissions. Check this create and manage roles in QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise article for more information.

QB is  switching the email in the my company area to people that don't have access to this area.  you would thin QB could look at log files to figure this out? Has been going on for months and is a serious security and privacy issue as CC purchase info is being sent to the wrong people.

Let's check first if other users have a full access to your file. You can follow the steps provided by my colleague. If none of the users have full access to all areas of QuickBooks, I'd suggest contacting our Technical Support Team. They'll check your log files and investigate what's causing this issue.

 

Here's how to reach them:

 

  1. Click Help on the top menu.
  2. Choose QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Tick Contact Us.
  4. Select Search for something else.
  5. Enter the issue you've encountered in the Tell us more about your question: field.
  6. Hit Search.
  7. Press the Start a Message button.

There are 3 partners and 1 accountant that have full access but they all do not access this area.  The email currently being replaced does not have full access.  I have spent dozens of hours with tech support that just passes the buck between merchant services and QB tech support.  If you say they have the tools to look at the logs and solve this-please help me make this happen.  That is the solution to find out whats going on.  I have asked this to be escalated numerous times and the email continues to change.   Its happened happen 5 times in the last week!  This issue has been going on for months.

I know that having to go through multiple troubleshooting steps and not having any of them work can be a real pain, csinger.

 

We appreciate the time and effort you've spent with one of our technical support agents to get this sorted out. I'll personally share your feedback with our phone support team about the numerous request for this issue to be escalated. We'll be able to take action on improving our customer service.

 

In this case, it would be best to contact our Technical Support Team again (with your case or reference number). They'll check further on what they can do. Just follow the steps I've provided to reach out to them.

Thanks for forwarding me back to QB tech support but they have not been able to solve this or escalate it to someone who can.  This is why I'm reaching out to the forum to see if anyone else is experience the same thing or a QB employee is willing to escalate this.  Having a forum and telling people to call tech support for your issue is counter productive.  Getting a supervisor to contact me that can do something would be a better suggestion.

How can you say that "We always ensure that the security and privacy of your account is our top priority"?  Do you really believe this?  I have pointed out this serious security issue to QB for over three months and no-one wants to accept responsibility or make it their priority to help solve the issue.  Have spent dozens of hours with your tech support teams that can't seem to grasp the problem at hand.   Pre formatted responses and telling me how to contact tech support are just insulting.  Research a solution or pass it on to someone that cares about QB security and not give just lip service.  Can you do anything to help solve the issue or are you only able to pass me back to the tech support team that has not been able or willing to solve this problem.

I have found the reason for these changes and the flaw in QB that allows a user (WHO IS NOT AN ADMIN) to make the address change in the my company area.  I figured this out without QB support and have documented how this is done.  I will not post the exact method to do this as it is a security "back door" into changing email in my company area.  This in itself, has many reasons why it's dangerous.

 

I have not figure out to prevent it from happening but will share my findings with QB Support to find an answer.  But if a non-admin is able to change email without logging into the my company area in single user mode-this is a serious security flaw.
