I updated my QuickBooks today (Desktop accountant plus 2024), and since then, it's collapsed the whole report, not just the subcategories (like it was until now).

Same issue here in Accountant Enterprise v24.0 - please fix soon.
You're experiencing Intuit's new and improved reports for QuickBooks Desktop!
They're provided by the We-Don't-Know-How-To-Test-Software team, seemingly in an effort to make QuickBooks Online reports look better.
Rest assured, studies show that they're much easier to read, given that they contain almost no information. Yes, very streamlined and modern!
Please at least make my custom expansions/collapses save in a memorized report. I am already tired of fixing the presentation every time I refresh the report.
We updated to the newest release yesterday and having the same problem in Desktop Enterprise Solutions: Professional Services 24.0. Collapse is all or nothing now - no partial collapse options. Memorizing also does not work because the report defaults to fully expanded. Please fix!
I'll provide the details about the ongoing issue of being unable to collapse reports after updating QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Enterprise to the newest version, @D Cicero.
Please be aware that there's an ongoing investigation regarding users unable to collapse the reports after updating to the latest QBDT version. Our product engineers are fully aware of the issue and are working hard to find a solution. Although we don't have an exact timeframe for the resolution yet, please rest assured that we're actively working on it.
In the meantime, I suggest reaching out to our support team so they can add you to the affected user list and receive timely updates about this matter whenever available.

I went thru the steps you listed and contacted help. They tried to tell me how to create a custom report. They weren't even familiar with the issue until I copied and pasted some of the comments from this forum. Ridiculous! So I have spent 30 minutes so far and still not on this so called "list" to receive updates on when this error will be fixed.
Intuit's support at it finest! Always a pleasure.
Same issue. Extremely frustrating!
SUPER ANNOYING! I think Intuit is trying to make desktop more and more unusable, so we'll all switch to the more profitable QBO.
thanks intuit for the update! you're the best!
Same problem happening with mine since the update. UGH.
I can see how the new functionality is not aligned with your previous experience, Dmorris. Allow me to assist you in requesting the return of the collapsing method.
The recent changes to the report collapsing feature in QuickBooks Desktop Accountant Plus 2024 were implemented as part of a design decision aimed at enhancing report management and usability. This update now collapses reports to the top level instead of just the subcategories.

This wasn't just one version of QB, it also impacted QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2024. I like that the design decision was not based on how we actually use QuickBooks, but assumed report management and usability. When a user saves a report in a specific way, that is how they wanted to save it for management and usability. I've been using this for years and this is ridiculous that all of the customized reports I have Intuit knows better how I should view my reports. Very frustrating.
Except, this doesn't enhance usability for anyone. The top level of the chart of accounts is how we have designed our own QuickBooks to show us reports. Neither my clients nor fellow accountants get any use out of having to constantly re-format our screens. If you must make the collapse/expand do it to the extreme - whatever - but then leave my custom expanding/collapsing to be memorized in the specific report until I manually click collapse/expand again. You need to roll back the update for now until you can make it usable.
Same thing has happened to us. We rely more on collapsing and expanding the reports than we do on any of the recent enhancements.
Can we go back to the previous version and will that fix this issue?
Same thing happened to us. We need this fixed asap.
Can we go back to the prior version?
Enhancing our customers' needs is our top priority, @EA17.
I appreciate your interest in having the collapse feature for reports in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). We have an open investigation where other users have encountered the same issue. With this, you can contact our QuickBooks Desktop Support Team to be added to the list of affected users and be updated once there's a possible resolution.
Moreover, please know that this is working as designed. Thus, you're unable to go back to the prior version. As we're constantly taking your suggestions into account while making product updates, you can submit your feedback to our Product Development Team if you prefer the old way. The more requests this gets, the more likely it'll be part of future enhancements.
Here's how:
Once done, choose Send Feedback. I'll be adding these helpful articles with different reports in QBDT that you can generate and modify based on your preference to help you manage your business:

Had the same problem yesterday. Today it is fixed. How, I have no idea.
Maybe enough people complained. This is the first time in 20+years that I think QB has responded to something I gave feedback on!
Thank you Intuit! (for once)
@Carneil_C "Currently, we have an open investigation that other users have also encountered the same issue."
"Moreover, please know that this is working as designed."
I used to wonder if the support staff actually read what the users wrote.
Now, I wonder if the support staff actually read their own messages.
It suddenly went back to"normal" on Friday, and I verified this morning the reports are again running as we had saved them, very strange. Assuming there was a fix - Thank you for the fix.
Thanks to your comment, I just checked and mine is back to normal as well. THANK YOU!
The collapse feature is working properly again! Thank you!!
