Hi @sktr7669,

Thanks for posting in the Community. I'm here to assist you with changing the Chart of Accounts type.

You can modify the Account Type with the following steps:

  1. Select Accounting on the left navigation menu and Chart of Accounts.
  2. Click the triangle in the Action column next to the account that you'd like to change and choose Edit.
  3. Select the Account Type and Detail Type that you'd like.
  4. Click Save and Close.
  5. Choose Yes to the prompt that appears.

The following is a brief video of this process:

For additional information on editing the Chart of Accounts, such as customizing Account Details, I suggest the following article: Edit Your Chart of Accounts

That's got it. I believe you will have it changed in a few clicks.

Let me know if you need anything else. Wishing you a great weekend ahead.

Hello, CW52.

Thank you for getting back to us. I appreciate you for following the steps above provided by my colleagues. Let's change the Chart of Accounts type using a private window. This is a special mode where the browser doesn't record the browsing activity on the local device so, no trace will be left on the computer.

Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome).
  • Ctrl + Shift + P (Firefox).
  • Control + Option + P (Safari).

If you're able to make any changes in the char of account type, let's clear the cache in the web browser or try using a different supported browser. This might be a temporary issue with QuickBooks and the current browser that they're using.

However, if you still found the same issue in other browsers, I suggest contacting our Customer Support Team. They can perform a screen sharing to see the exact prompt and investigate further.

Don't hesitate to reach out to us if you need further assistance. We're always here to help. Stay safe!

Hi there, Lynzi!

Allow me to step in and share some information about changing your account type.

There are times that the browser is full of frequently accessed page resources, thus causing some unusual responses.

You can follow the troubleshooting steps provided by my colleague @AileneA to fix the issue with your browser.

For more details on editing the Chart of Accounts, such as customizing Account Details, I suggest the following article: Edit Your Chart of Accounts

If it won't let you keep the same name, I recommend you reach our Customer Support team to verify why you're experiencing this and check your account in a secure environment. Here's how to reach out to them:

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Choose Contact Us
  3. Enter your specific concern in the What can we help you with? field.
  4. Click Let's talk
  5. Select Get a callback.
  6. Enter your contact details.
  7. Click Confirm my call

Also, please check our chat and phone help hours to have a conversation with us in your free time.

I'm also adding this article for additional resources: How to view or change account detail types.

Keep me posted on how everything goes in the comment. I'll be happy to answer if you have any follow-up questions about changing your account type. Have a good one.
