How do I deactivate the convenience fee? I use QBO and the convenience fee has been getting applied as an overpayment on my customers invoices.

Welcome to QuickBooks Community, nutritionbysarah. I'll share detailed steps to ensure you're able to deactivate the convenience fee that has been already applied to the customer's invoice.

To start with, you'll have to go to the Products and Services page and locate the item. From there, you have the option to inactivate the convenience fee, so it won't show up on the sale forms, lists, or financial reports.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon on the left panel.
  2. Choose  Products and Services under Lists.
  3. Locate the convenience fee. Then, click the drop-down arrow under the Action column.
  4. Select Make Inactive.
  5. You'll be prompted with Are you sure you want to make the item inactive? Click Yes to confirm.

For additional information, you can click this article: Add product and service items to QuickBooks Online. This also provides details on how you can change a product or service item type.

Please refer to this article to see different information on how to import products and services with sub-categories and sub-items: Import products and services into QuickBooks Online.

Please leave a comment below if you have any follow-ups or other concerns. I'm always here to help. Have a great day.

This has been working up until about 10 days ago. I don't want to deactivate the fee. I want my customers to pay it.  It has never created an overpayment on the customer account until recently.

Hello Careweav!

The convenience fee is a beta feature. I'm here to show you how to fix the overpayment on the customer's account.

Let's create an invoice for the fee. Then, we can use the credit from the convenience fee as payment so we can close it.

Follow these steps:

  1. From the + New button and select Invoice.
  2. Select the same customer and the same date.
  3. Tap Save and close.

Once done, proceed to these steps:

  1. Go back to the + New button and select Receive payment.
  2. Select the Customer and the Deposit to account.
  3. Check the invoice you created.
  4. From the Credits section, select the credit from the convenience fee.
  5. Make sure the Amount Received is zero. Tap Save and close.

Can you please give me more information on the old beta feature? When did is go away and where did they realize the official statement?

Thank you for joining the conversation, daveGum.

I understand you want the Convenience Fee option in QBO. However, after careful consideration and test findings, Intuit decided to discontinue the said feature on February 2, 2022, while it was still in the Beta phase. We don't have an official statement about its removal, but we provided a workaround which is to manually add a convenience fee as an item to invoices.

Feel free to reach back out if you have any other questions about adding a convenience fee. Take care and have a good one.
