Join nowHello there, emerald.
I can see how the new invoice and estimate interface affects your impression when recording your transactions. Let me provide insights on how it works in QuickBooks and ensure you can use the format that you need.
Our product engineers have changed the invoice and estimate interface or format to better suit our customers' needs and to make it more user-friendly. Please know that Plus and Advanced users can still return to the old layout. If you're using the said versions, I recommend switching back by clicking the Old Layout button. This allows you to view the interface that you prefer.
Here's how:
However, Simple Start and Essentials users have been migrated to the new invoice experience with no option to opt out since October 18, 2023. This means the ability to return to the old experience is no longer available.
I suggest sending feedback to our product development team. They'll review your comments about this matter and might consider adding it to future updates.
Here's how:
In case you need details on how the Sales page gives you a great at-a-glance view of the status of all your sales entries like open and paid invoices, you can read this article: View sales transactions in QuickBooks Online.
You can always get back to this thread if you have any other clarifications or questions about managing your sales entries in QBO. I'm always around to help, emerald. Take care.

I totally agree , it is a nightmare . The time im spending sitting here playing and learning these new layouts i could be out in the field meeting with customers . I feel like its getting worse and worse as time goes on and from what i hear a lot of local small business dropping quickbooks . I believe im one of the few who still uses it however , I'm not too far behind.

Hello there, leading edge.
Adapting the changes within the new invoice and estimate layouts can indeed affect business processes and productivity, as it will take more time and effort. Let me add some details regarding this matter.
As mentioned by my colleague, these updates ensure the software meets different business needs. However, the option to switch to the old layout is available for Plus and Advanced users while unavailable for Simple Start and Essentials users.
Moreover, I recommend sending your insights regarding the new update to our product engineers. They can take notes and consider them when working to further improve the software. Let me guide you on how.
You can keep track of your ideas or suggestions by visiting this website: Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online.
On the other hand, you can get familiarized with the latest estimates and invoices experience through this article: See what’s new with estimates and invoices in QuickBooks Online.
Moreover, consider reviewing this material for guidance on personalizing your sales form to enhance business communication: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.
Please keep us posted on this forum if you have additional questions about the new invoice and estimate layout or other related concerns in QuickBooks Online.
NO!!!!!! It's BACK!!!!
It was fine, then they forced it on us, and we complained and for almost a year it was back to normal. Now it's back to the "NEW" way which SUCKS.
Come on Intuit, QB, etc... stop messing with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm convinced they don't want us using their software. I wrote an article about the New Invoices a while back (https://fieldexit.com/forum/display?threadid=691). The new "New Invoices" looks to possibly handle a couple of the issues (it looks like you can modify bill to and ship to on the invoice level and add subtotals)
But, the problems I still see:
Sometimes I think they don't even alpha or beta test their updates at all.
The user experience is absolute s-h-i-t. All the fancy features and functions don't really matter if guys made it more complicated to use with more steps to do simple tasks. Not to mention it's exponentially slower than it was 5-6 years ago.
It’s complete crap like where’s my refund this a joke the estimates and invoices look like a third grader made them.
Almost one week into forced update and both Productivity and Sales are down.
Lost features on the estimate and invoice screens
Stop reinviting the wheel!!!!
If you want to play with colors and shapes of things then fine but leave the functionality alone. You are affecting my money, which affects my family.
I have spent more time on the phone and in chats trying to figure out how to do what I was already doing instead of selling new customers
The new qb absolutely sucks. I’ve been using qb for over 10 years and I’m considering getting rid of it. Everything about the new layout sucks and makes everything more difficult. I hate it!!!
Things we can no longer do easily after this terrible horrible, awful update:
Search for an invoice by the name of the client in the invoice list
Search for an invoice by invoice number in the invoice list
Search for an invoice by dollar amount in the invoice list
I CAN BE LOOKING AT THE INVOICE ON THE SCREEN AND SEARCH FOR THE NUMBER THAT I AM ACTUALLY LOOKING AT AND IT WILL NOT PULL IT UP. (and yes, I have made sure that the filter is set on “all”)
We now have to go to the customer list, search for the customer, and then look at all of the invoices they’ve ever had and find the one we want.
How is that an improvement?
we cannot attach photos flawlessly anymore. About every third one gives an error. I will sometimes have to try five or six times just to get one photo to attach. It takes probably triple the amount of time to create an invoice now that it did prior to this update!
We can no longer add photos or notes or anything to an invoice once it has been paid.
Part of our job routine is to attach drop off photos when we deliver a product. We can no longer do that.
once an invoice has been paid, we can no longer even view the notes or open the attachments to look at photos if there’s a warranty issue or any other need. We have to email it to ourselves and open it as a link to view any of the info we had added to the info.
We used to be able to search all invoices for any line item/product/service that was on an invoice. That function has completely gone away. There is no ability For product and services.
example: if I want to look at every job that used product “ABC”, we used to be able to put “ABC” in the search bar and it would pull up every invoice with that part included on it.
The list goes on and on. I’ve spent countless hours online trying to find solutions to these issues, but I’m out.
I’m switching to a company, who hopefully cares a little bit more about what their users need.
