A customer is trying to pay from Canada and QuickBooks is not allowing her zip code how does she do this so she can pay the invoice

Hello there, @vippackageslasve

Welcome to the Community. Intuit's payment processing only allows 5-digit numeric zip code as standard in the US.

I'd suggest you inform your customers to contact their issuing bank to determine if they have the option to use their international card with U.S. based businesses that don't meet the U.S. 5 digit standard.

If in case the international credit card can't be used, I'd suggest you contact our QuickBooks Payments team. They can advise you about what other forms of payment so your customer can pay their invoices successfully.

For future reference, read through our help article: Turn on and use multicurrency. It helps you learn how to set up multicurrency in case you need to record a transactions using a currency other than your local currency.

Feel free to message again if you have anything in mind about QuickBooks. We're always here to help.

@vippackageslasve ,

As additional payment option, consider this service. Your customer will pay in CAD and you will be paid in USD.

Hope it helps.

Hi @beerssan,

Thanks for the question.  We did some testing and confirmed that the e-invoicing system still allows a foreign customer to submit an alphanumeric postal code.  I would recommend contacting support if your customer is getting an error.

Here's the contact options for payments supports:

asking a customer to contact their bank to get a zip code is the fastest way to lose a sale.

QB you need to address this. it's an issue.

I just also had this issue with a Canadian customer.  Seems like something that needs to be addressed.

Thanks for joining the thread and bringing this to our attention, firespeaking.

To process credit card payments in QuickBooks Online (QBO), you need a QuickBooks Payments account, so your Canadian customers can pay you. Their credit card needs to have a 5 digit zip code compatible with the US standards.

If your customer is having problems due to such zip code situation when processing payment, they should contact the card-issuing bank to determine if there are options for using their international card with U.S. based businesses that require a 5-digit numeric zip code. Intuit's payment processing doesn't utilize an alphanumeric zip code field.

For more details, visit this article: Accept Non-US credit card from customers using QuickBooks Merchant Services.

To learn more about how you can process credit card payments, take a look at this link: Process a credit card payment in QuickBooks Online.

Fill me in if you have other questions. I'm just a few clicks away. Have a great day.

That is an unacceptable response from Quickbooks. You need to implement the ability for international customers to enter their own respective billing information. Forcing your customers to circumvent your payment processing system to process a payment from a customer literally nullifies the vast majority of benefit you're offering. What a joke.

@mkivmatt

Another option, have a 3rd party app to accept international credit card payments.

We have had luck with asking the Canadian customer to remove the space in the Canadian postal code.

A Canandian traveler can walk into a US hotel and pay for their room with their card, but I cannot charge them for my childcare services because I was stupid enough to think QuickBooks payments was a useful solution!

The big difference is unlike the hotel, I don't see the clients. I do digital agreements and charge card upon completion of services.
