Yes, you can, @Purruno.

You'll need to turn on the multi-currency feature so you can track invoices with sales taxes from the US and EU regions. Please note that you can't revert this once turned on. If you aren't sure, you can reach out to your accountant for proper guidance.

Once ready, here's how to proceed:

  1. Click the Gear icon ⚙️, and then select Account and Settings.
  2. Choose Advanced.
  3. Select Edit ✎ in the Currency section and choose your Home Currency.
  4. Pick the Multicurrency checkbox and confirm that you understand that you can't undo this option.
  5. Hit Save and close.

For more info, please check out this article: Turn on multi-currency.

Once turned on, all income and expense accounts will base on the home currency. To have an invoice with Eur (Euro) as the currency, you'll have to create a customer using that said currency. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Sales menu, and then choose the Customers tab.
  2. Tap the New Customer button.
  3. On the Customer Information window, select the Payment and billing section.
  4. Set the currency to Euro (€) under the This customer pays me with drop-down ▼.
  5. Click Save when you're ready.

Once done, you can now create invoices with sales taxes using the said currencies. Just ensure to select the customer associated with it.

You'll want to customize your invoices to get the formats and info you need. Also, you can check the Sales Tax Liability report to keep track of all your sales tax info. For more insights, please review this resource: Run Sales tax Liability report.

You can count on me if you have more questions about managing your invoices. Take care and stay safe, @Purruno.

Hello,

These 2 steps described above are done. What do I do to create the invoice in Euro? When I create a new invoice even following these steps:

- go to customers

- find the one with EUR

- click 'Create invoice'

I still get the new invoice with $ and there is no way to change the currency

@JaneDe

You have to enable the multicurrency feature and it is not available on QBO Simple Start. You may need a workaround to accept payments in EUR but register it in USD.

Thank you for that information, JaneDe.

It's quite strange that your customer's invoice is still in USD even if its currency is already in EUR. Let's check to see what's causing this behavior.

If you haven't already, you can sign in to QBO using a private browser. This step disables its extensions and stops the cache from saving your browsing history. For Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift + N, for MS Edge and Firefox, Ctrl + Shift + P, and for Safari, Command + Shift + N.

If the correct currency is displayed, you can go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. If not, please try other browsers to see if we get the same thing, or contact our QBO Support to check this further using more tools.

I'm also sharing this article for your additional reference: Learn about Multicurrency in QuickBooks Online. It contains hypertexts to sub-topics related to the said feature. It's like a hub for Multicurrency.

I'm available for any other concerns. Take care!

=============================================

Hello Purruno, and for those who would have the same question in the future.

I'd like to clarify that the multicurrency feature has nothing to do with business taxes. It's designed so you can create transactions based on your customer's currency.

The tax set up in QuickBooks Online - USA is only applicable in the US. Therefore, if you invoice a customer with a Berlin address, the tax calculation will be based on your business location. QBO-USA does not support a separate tax setup for other countries.

We're just right here if you have other queries or additional information about your situation. Stay safe!

The question is not about taxes but - can I somehow create an invoice with Euro instead of USD? Many thanks, Jane

Yes, you can create an invoice in Euro, JaneDe.

Make sure the multicurrency feature is turned on and that you've created a customer in Euro. Then, you can choose that customer when creating an invoice. Please take a look at the image below.

You're likely experiencing trouble with your browser. There are times too much cache stored on the browser can cause unexpected behavior on the program. Let's fix this by performing some troubleshooting procedures.

You can start by accessing your account using an incognito window. This mode fixes most of the browser issues since it doesn't save any site data. Here are the shortcut keys:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

You can then try making a new invoice. If it works, switch back to your default browser and clear the cache. This deletes the browsing history while also refreshing the program. You can also isolate further by using different supported browsers.

I've also added this article for your future reference about the two options on recording sales transactions in QuickBooks Online: Record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online.

Stay in touch with us if you need further assistance with multicurrency. We're always here to help.
