I got you covered, jstephens40-my-g.

I'm here to share some details about the error message that you encountered in QuickBooks.

When using Accounts Payable (AP) in creating a journal entry, QuickBooks Online required a vendor name to be specified. You can only use the customer's name if you are posting it to an Accounts Receivable (AR).

However, if you're posting it to the AP and wanted to use the customer's name, as a workaround, you'll need to add the customer as a vendor. Though, you'll have to ensure the names are slightly different so you'll be able to create it.

Here's how to add a vendor:

  1. From the Expenses menu, select Vendors.
  2. Click New Vendor.
  3. Complete the fields in the Vendor Information window using your customer's info.
  4. Once done, click on Save and close.

After that, you can now create a journal entry again.

Additionally, you run and customize the Journal report. This helps you view all your created entries in QuickBooks. Just click the Reports menu, then type in Journal in the search bar.

This does not seem to help me.  I have entered a Vendor in the name field and it won't allow me to save the journal, even when I delete that line now, with the intention of doing on a separate journal.

Hi I get the same message, even when already entered a vendor or supplier on the name field, were you able to fix this?

Nice to have you joined this thread, Deyna. I want to make sure I provided you with the best fix so you can save your journal entry without error.

Unexpected behaviors in QuickBooks Online are sometimes caused by a browser-related issue. The stored cache can affect the performance of the program.

To resolve this, I'd suggest logging in to your QuickBooks Online account via a private window. This doesn't use the existing cache files, which makes it a good place to determine if there's an issue with the browser.

Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + P

Once signed in, try creating a journal entry again. If you're able to do so, let's clear the browser's cache. This removes its stored files to ensure the program performs efficiently.

You can also use other supported browsers. They'll provide the best and most secure experience with QuickBooks.

If the issue persists, I'd suggest contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. They're equipped with tools to check the cause. It'll also allow them to submit a ticket to our engineering team to alert them about the issue if necessary.

In case you've created a journal entry by mistake, you can reverse or delete it in QuickBooks Online. This ensures your books are accurate.

I'm only a post away if you need more help in managing your transactions in QuickBooks, Deyna. It's always my pleasure to help you out again.
