When I run a balance sheet report that is filtered by class, my bank deposits are not showing up in the report. If I turn off the class filter, they show up just fine and all of the balances are accurate. However, when filtered by class, the deposits don't show up.
How do I get a deposit that is attributed to a class to show up in a report that is filtered by class?
Thanks!

I appreciate you following the steps above to get the right information on your Balance Sheet by Class report. Allow me to join the conversation and provide clarification.
Each transaction (except journal entries) is separated into two parts, the header, and the detail. The Balance Sheet by Class Report pulls in the header portions of the transactions, in which asset, liability, and equity accounts are selected.
When using classes, transactions are attached to the detail portion making the report incorrect. Resolve this by entering all related transactions as General Journal Entries and specify a class on each line item.
Check out the following articles to know more about this:
You can also run the Profit and Loss report and customize it by class to get the information from the detail side of the transaction. Let me show you how:

I'm here to help resolve the issue when filtering Balance Sheet Report by Class in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
I've replicated this on my QuickBooks sample file, and it seems like my bank deposit shows when filtering the Balance Sheet report by Class. Let's perform troubleshooting steps, which is to switch to a different browser. This is a good way to check if it's caused by the browser. Let's log into QBO using a private browser.
Here are the keyboard shortcuts to open a private browser:
If it works fine, I suggest clearing your browser's cache to start fresh. The next time you log in to QuickBooks Online, your browser will download fresh copies of everything you see on each page. Any cache-related issues should be cleared up.
For additional reference, you can check this article on how to customize reports.
Please let me know how it goes by clicking the Reply button below. I'll be around to help if you have additional questions about the QBO reports. Have a good one.
Thanks for the suggestion - sadly, this doesn't seem to help. I tried a different browser and a private window - it didn't work in either case. None of the "Quick Deposit" items are reflected in the class-filtered Balance Sheet, even though they have a class attributed to them.
I did some more testing to see if I could isolate the problem. ... When I drill down from a Balance Sheet Report, in the transaction report for that bank account, the deposit does NOT show that it is classified at all. However, when I go into the bank account though the COA, the deposit does show it is classified.
Any thoughts on how to correct this? Thanks!

This is super helpful! In order for a deposit to be able to show up in a class-filtered report, it needs to be entered in as a journal entry. I can fix that.
What about Bill Payments? If I set-up a bill to have a class, the bill shows up in the class-filtered balance sheet report under the appropriate budget or liability line. However, when I pay the bill, the bill payment, even if given a class, does not show up on the class-filtered balance sheet. If I want a bill / bill payment to show up as class-related, do I need to change these to journal entries too? ... That seems to make the whole accounting process more complicated than it should be given the general simplicity of QBO.
Thanks again!
Thanks for the quick response, @PTJ.
I’m glad you found the information above helpful. Let me add some more details about the Balance Sheet by Class report.
Yes, you have to enter both AP and AR transactions using Journal Entry in order for classes to show on the report.
The Balance Sheet by Class pulls data from headers, which means the only option to get the class to show on the report is by entering a JE.
You can also use the Profit and Loss to pull details on transactions and filter it by Class. Refer to the articles I shared on my previous response for more information.
That should do it. Please post again in the Community if you have any other questions, I'm always here to help. Cheering you to continued success!
Thanks @KhimG! I did go back and was reading through the articles you posted while looking at actual checks, bill payments, etc on my QBO. What you're saying makes sense as to HOW it operates, but it doesn't help me a whole lot :-/ ... It would be great to be able to classify an entire bank account for the purpose of running a filtered balance sheet.
It would be a lot of additional work to add journal entries for every AR and AP transaction, not to mention, it defeats the simplicity of QBO to not be able to use the "Quick Deposit" function. Any chance software changes can be made to help reconcile this and make entering expenses and deposits just as easy, while also allowing an easier balance sheet report by class?
Again, thanks for your help today!

Hi Malika24,
Thanks for attaching a screenshot for a reference.
If the bank history report is filtered to show only specific transactions, it can't display the total balance amount (the same result as with your screenshot). There's currently no option to show edit it. However, you can export the report to Excel and manually add the total expense amounts.
On the other hand, instead of viewing the register's history, let's run the General Ledger report. All financial reports in QuickBooks Online converts all the transaction amounts to the home currency. The good thing you can customize them to show the Foreign Amount column. It is the equivalent foreign currency of each transactions.

this is a HUGE miss by QBO. You have to do JE for every deposit or expense to be able to class is correctly? That's insane
In my desktop QB, the deposits always showed on the Balance Sheet by Class in the correct class, until last fall. Something changed. I doublechecked to see that each payment was classed in the "make deposits" window, and they show up as unclassified. The older deposits, made in the identical fashion, still show in the proper class. What happened?
I appreciate you for double-checking the deposit transaction window in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), KS2511. Let me provide some troubleshooting steps to get around this issue,

I'm finding the only way to have my subacct bank deposits show up on the Balance Sheet filtered by Class is to make JE. This can't be the only way. I did the verify data and nothing was wrong. I'm at a loss.

I'm confused how this would help. I did what you said but nothing changed. I've looked through the tabs in the Tool Hub but nothing points in the right direction. I'm still forced to do J/E for the acct to show up on the Balance Sheet when filtered by class. It shows up when I don't filter. Every transaction has been coded with the correct class.
Hi there, McBeng.
I appreciate your returning to the thread regarding your sub-account bank deposits not showing up on your balance sheet filtered by class in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
Let's start by reviewing the deposit transaction and checking if a class has been added to it. If not, attach a class to your deposit transaction and then generate a Balance Sheet report to ensure that your deposits are included.
However, if you've already added a class to your deposits, I recommend contacting our QBDT live support team. They discuss and guide you in finding an adequate solution regarding this matter.
