Hello, @kerryboersma. Thank you for raising your concern in the QuickBooks Community and for including a screenshot.

It's possible that the report's data was sorted into a different column, causing the dates to appear out of order. Don't worry, I can guide you through the steps to sort the data by dates in Excel. This will allow you to easily review the Employee Sick & Vacation History report.

Let me show you how:

  1. Drag down the column to select the dates you want to sort.
  2. Click Home tab.
  3. Select the Sort & Filter drop-down arrow.
  4. Click Sort Oldest to Newest, or Sort Newest to Oldest.

Additionally, you have the option to customize any reports generated in QuickBooks Desktop. This will enable you to extract the specific information you need for your business.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions regarding the Employee Sick & Vacation History report. I'm here to assist you. Have a great day!

I think that can happen if the wrong data is returned from QuickBooks, which can happen if you have multiple version of QB open at the same time or if you switch company files during one session.

If you restart your computer to clean up memory and then try again, then do you get the expected results?

I have been having the same trouble for a couple months when running the excel year to date.  It sorts the months by 01,10,11,02,03,04, etc.  It didn't do this last year.  I started noticing it in October this year.  The report can be resorted by date but it has to be done one employee at a time which is time-consuming if you have very many employees at all.  Also, you have to sort it without including the vacation balance column or it gives you incorrect running balance totals.  I run this report every payday for a large employer.  We really need QuickBooks to find a fix for this.

This doesn't work because we need it sorted one employee at a time and not the whole report.  Also, it won't do it anyway because of merged cells.

This comment relates to the reply regarding sorting.  It keeps attaching to the wrong reply.

Your suggestions to submit feedback are in QBO and the issue is in QBD.  Was this intentional?  Do I submit QBD feedback in QBO?

@janeensmithcpa  RE: I have been having the same trouble for a couple months when running the excel year to date. It sorts the months by 01,10,11,02,03,04, etc.

That's quite unusual, but looks like the pattern in the OP's attached image. It's almost like it's sorting the dates as if they're text, like: 1,10,11,12,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9

I tried, but I can't duplicate the issue.

I dug under the covers of the report and it looks like the report depends on QuickBooks returning the data in date order.

What version of QuickBooks are you using?

Also, what's your computer's system date format?  Typically it's MM/DD/YYYY, for example...

What report did you run in order to get the dates taken to show up? I am beyond frustrated that QB doesn't have a simple report to track when employees take vacation. Thanks for your help.

@MadelynC  RE: In QuickBooks Desktop, the option to track when employees take vacation is currently unavailable.

Of course it's available. It's been available for nearly two decades.

Have you considered learning the QuickBooks feature set before making claims that it doesn't have features customer ask for but haven't found? Just a thought.
