How do I disable Modern View and stay in Classic View?

Please explain why we can't PERMANENTLY change back to Classic View. Surely you can see it's extremely annoying to many people - the new display is awful. Fair enough, you want to provide an alternative display (god knows why anyone would want it in that hideous display though), but let us have the option to change it permanently back & not have to change to ClassicView every time we access a new window.

Clearly there are many people annoyed by this, but the replies show you are just ignoring them. When you try to give feedback on Gear, Feedback, it freezes (just like everyone says but you don't seem to accept that criticism either!).

Thanks for waiting, Donald. I recognize you prefer to use the classic view in QuickBooks Online. I'll share some insights about disabling the modern view. QuickBooks updates the view for a better and more convenient experience while using it. And currently, the option to disable modern view or make it default one it is unavailable. Fortunately, there is still a "Switch to Classic View" button which gets you back to the view you want. We understand your need for the functionality and would love to hear your thoughts about your experience when switching to modern views by sending us feedback within your QuickBooks Online company. This enables our product developers to consider bringing back the old view. Open the Gear menu and input your thoughts from there. Here's how: Click on the Feedback option.

Someone needs to tell the scriptwriters to look up "more convenient" and tell us how that applies to a forced change to a less productive and more cumbersome process.
and the "Fortunately" we still gave you a button to click every single time to go back to the way the reports have been presented since inception is a condescending slap in the face.

How do I disable Modern View and stay in Classic View?

If QB ever develops an "improvement", it must have as a necessity, the option or disabling or defaulting back to the classic .   The recent introduction of "modern view' without disable feature is really annoying.  It is unnecessary since I could have customized my reports if I wanted to. Now all that happens is it takes additional steps to switch back to the view I have been happy with for years. Developers you have failed!

It looks like everyone missed that the "back" button in Modern View works.  Great work QBO!

An issue that I run in to is that when I try to drill into sub-accounts from the Income Statement or Balance Sheet and it takes me to modern view and doesn't show me any details.  I need to keep clicking on different rows depending on how many levels of sub accounts I have.  Extra steps are extra time.  It's not much, but the user experience has become worse.

Another way this creates extra steps is that when I download to Excel and all the amounts are in text format.  Bad form QBO.

Some features seem cool, but nothing let me know how to use them.

In the end, Modern View is simply one more step that it takes to get to Classic View.  Please offer Classic View as a default.
I already offered feedback through the feedback tool in my account.

I'm upset and my team is upset.  Poor roll out, QBO.

Same issue with Modern view as a default when I want classic view.  Called Intuit and they had no resolution but would put in a "ticket" and be in contact with some kind of answer.  Another typical failure in QB development.  Dont they test their updates before they roll them out?

It is so disappointing that Intuit is ignoring yet another problem brought up by so many users.

Like everyone else on this thread, and I would presume to say on behalf of anyone who prefers useful functionality to ridiculous "enhancements" that don't work, PLEASE PROVIDE AN OPTION TO DEFAULT TO CLASSIC VIEW. Or as some have suggested, just eliminate Modern View since obviously no one likes it.

If any of you moderators have any respect for us users - your customers - please get this message through to the development team and make this happen. NOW.

Absolutely need a way to disable Modern view or have the option to toggle. This product enhancement is not an enhancement.

I agree the modern view is not efficient.  Every time I have to click to revert back (which is a lot) it is wasted time and very frustrating.  I would prefer the classic view.

When I try to edit a transaction from the modern view I just get the following error. Classic view works fine though. Please add option to make Classic View default.

Thank you for adding a screenshot, colinexl,

I'm here to help fix the error you encounter.

To start with, let's edit the transaction on an incognito window to isolate cache issues. You can use these keyboard shortcuts to open one:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Microsoft Edge & Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Control Option P

If it rectifies the issue, go back to your main portal and clear its cache to remove the browser's history. You may also try accessing your account using another supported browser.

I've also added these references as your guide in modifying transactions:

Additionally, I see the convenience of making Classic view a default one. With that, I'd encourage you to send feedback to our developers. You can do so by clicking the Gear icon and then selecting Feedback. For now, you'll have to click the option manually.

I'm always a post-away if you have other concerns in managing your QuickBooks account.

I hate "modern view" and always have to click on classic view to get the reports that I need.  Having a way to default to classic view would be awesome!

Thanks for joining the thread and sharing your feedback about viewing reports in QuickBooks Online, @Giffola

I recognize the importance of having the option to default to the classic view instead of clicking it all the time when running reports. While this option is still unavailable, I suggest sending feedback to our product developers. They can review your suggestions and consider adding them in future releases. Please refer to the steps below:

  1. Hit the Gear icon at the top, then select Feedback.
  2. Type in your product suggestions.
  3. Click Next to submit feedback.

To get updates about the status of your feedback, you may visit the Customer Feedback page.

Additionally, while running reports, there are numerous ways to customize them. You can filter them to display specific accounts or customers or format the layout so that the correct data appears in the appropriate place.

Keep me posted if you have other questions in mind. I'll be around to lend a hand. Take care, and have a nice day.

I just tried it in Incognito mode and it doesn't solve the problem. First, clicking on the "Account name" to edit the transaction opens the transaction in a new tab which shows the error. However, when clicking on the "Date" or the "Transaction Type", it behaves similar to Classic View and editing does actually work.

One of the most frustrating things for me is that if i get to the Modern View, then decide t go back to the report, I can't. The option is to go to the Report List. Then I need to create the report all over again!

This isn't opinion. It is FACT. It seems since this is an actual SITE WIDE PROBLEM and a HUGE MISS, that someone from the QB team would actually, gods forbid, ELEVATE this to the people who should do something about it.

Y'all are wasting everyone's time.

(And, yes - I have already gone the Feedback route.)

I wonder if we all send Linkedin connection requests with a message to the various executives & developers that asks for them to please enable a permanent on/off switch for classic/modern if they'd see it and do something about it.

How do I disable Modern View and stay in Classic View?

I have been using QB for years desktop and online. This modern view is garbage to me. If an accountant designed or had something to do with this...fire them. Please allow the user/customer paying the fees that keep you in business the option to have everything displayed as classic view or modern view. A choice. Instead we have this garbage of switching constantly back to classic view because of the default to modern view.

Is this your way of trying to ram a so called improvement down our throats?

I implore you to come to your senses and give your customers the option.

Thank you

Is it possible to reach out to the development team and get an ETA on when a default classic view option will be available?  It's aggravating enough to make it worthwhile looking for alternatives to QBO.

How do I disable Modern View and stay in Classic View?

Hi there, @BrandonG.

This isn't the kind of impression I'd like you to have, and we know how beneficial it is to implement this feature in QuickBooks Online.

Yes, you can send this suggestion to our Product Development Team. However, we're unable to provide a specific time frame for when it will be available. It depends on the number of requests we receive from customers.

Feel free to visit our Feedback forum to track the progress of your feature request.

For future reference, browse our help page to guide you with our QBO tasks: QBO help articles.

You're always welcome to return to this thread if you have any other questions about your display preferences. I wish you and your business continued success.

I agree with David12, been trying to figure how to "turn off" modern view since its inception. Not a fan.

Quickbooks really s**t the bed here. Modern view is counter-intuitive and requires more clicks to get from an line item on a financial, to the transaction(s). And (counter)Intuit imposed this on users during busy season?

How do I disable Modern View and stay in Classic View?

This is a "classic" example of programmers not being end users and having no clue how accountants, bookkeepers, and business owners use the reports. This so called modern view is a useless, cluttered mess. A colossal fail. Dump the modern view and return the classic view...or provide a way for users to select what view that want to use.

As everyone else is saying Modern view is not an upgrade and we want the classic view back. Please allow real users to beta test these sorts of changes before you roll them out and try to convince everyone that it makes things better.  You did the same thing with the tax center a while back. These changes are not helping everyday users so please just stop!
