I have some information about the Gmail code. While there isn't a way for us to get rid of the code, you'll want to follow the workaround provided by @KeeganE above. Meanwhile, we gather info about this option, and feedbacks were already submitted to our developers.
About the UI format, you can visit our Intuit Developer's forum to post questions like this. On this site, you'll get to see QBO integrations and applications, and enable your application to access production to QBO. Here's the link: https://developer.intuit.com/app/developer/homepage.
Additionally, here's a link that covers all the tasks you can do when using the vendor and expenses feature.
Reach out to me if you have other questions or concerns with expenses or your QBO account. I'll be here to assist you. Take care and have a nice day ahead.
That will not work, since Quickbooks will only accept emails from pre-defined email addresses - specifically email addresses associated with your QBO Users.
So unless you start creating a user for each one of your vendors sending you bills, that will not work.
It's also not very plausible as a solution since the same email used to email receipts is typically associated with any other communication that the vendor may send you....

It's unbelievable that this still hasn't been fixed. None of the 'quick fixes' posted in this thread are viable solutions to the problem.

I'm just around if you have other questions. Take care!
Spent literally 1.5 hours on QBO support line yesterday to inevitably be told that yes, the issue is currently unsolved, there's no way around the gmail verification code requirement. Thanks for your comment but next time please try to understand the issue, I wasted a lot of time.
This issue is still unsolved, confirmed by QBO support.

Thanks for your reply but please try to actually understand the issue. I wasted a lot of time following your recommendation.

As a developer, I know its a small efort to the return.
Please allow the feature of the code confirmation. you can just scan it a receipt. it will be good enough for now.
We want to stop concerning about invoices.
we dont want to do it manually.
Currently, the email feature is useless if we cant forward the invoices automatically.
I am sure a lot of users are in a need of it.
Please let us know whats the current status of this feature.
From My end it's a deal-breaker whether I am going to continue using QuickBooks.
Thanks,
Mordechai.
Same thing here other than I only spent 1H, I had to go after that. The customer support person was completely clueless about my issue and did not understand at all what I was trying to solve. On my hand it's a dealbreaker, I will not be using Quickbooks but go to the competition.
You won't be able to verify but I have found a workaround. It will take 10 minutes to set up but it is working

I spent hours trying to solve this, happy that I could find this resource!
This worked like a charm. I have all my receipts and invoices forwarding in to quickbooks now. Thanks for sharing!!!
Genius. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for sharing, works like a charm. If there was a default option provided by QB I never would have discovered Google Scripts! So something positive out of a feature that should be included by default.
Exactly the kind of answer I needed (I suspected this was the solution but wanted a confirmation). Won't work for less techy types, though. QBO needs to make it so that their system allows a temporary "pass through" mode that will show all emails received as receipts even if theres nothing to extract, then you can extract the code there yourself manually. After an hour or whatever the pass-through mode can end and non-receipts will go back to being filtered/ignored.
I'm really hoping your solution works, but I'm not able to forward to my own email address. I get the error message Invalid forwarding address. You cannot specify your own email address.
The email address you posted has been redacted.
If I'm understanding correctly, in the Gmail settings of my google workspace email (for example name @ yourdomain.com) I should forward the email to that same address? Thanks in advance! It's pretty silly that this has been an issue within QB for YEARS and they have no rectified it.
The forwarding address is the QuickBooks forwarding address. e.g. yourcompany@qbodocs.com
You can find/set it up in QuickBooks under: Bookkeeping > Transactions > Receipts > Manage forwarding email
Why is it so hard to get Quickbooks Support to understand what users want to do with this forwarding email feature?
It's so simple.
Every month my business pays a phone bill via autopay. The vendor sends the receipt by email. I want to have the vendor email the receipt directly to [email address removed]. No need to email it to any person in my office.
So each month when the janitorial service processes the payment, it will email the receipt to my Quickbooks forwarding email.
When I pay for a meal by credit card, I want the receipt emailed directly to the Quickbooks forwarding email.
Every time I pay by Stripe, Square, Clover, Venmo, Zelle, or any other vendor that has the capability of emailing a receipt, I want it by default to email the receipt to the Quickbooks forwarding email.
It would eliminate several steps from my workflow and make everything so much more efficient.

THANK YOU @luisq! I was having a brain fart being stuck on gmail. Then I saw your post about outlook.com and it clicked! It reminded me of the fantastic forwarding rules that outlook.com and Outlook share. I set up another email address there, set up my rules and POOF it just worked first try. I set mine up to require specific words as the beginning of the subject line to route only those email and avoid spam. I tried a few different email platforms I have access to, but outlook is the only one that would forward the message with the correct email addy in the from field.
For what it's worth, I did manage to get the code for gmail. On the first try of sending an email to test the forwarding, the QBO app actually sent an email back to my gmail address that I was trying to set up auto-forwarding for which had the code in it. After adding the new address to QBO and setting everything up, only manual forwarding worked, not auto. Changed the rule to auto-forward to another email for testing, I saw that the email from address in the auto-forward email was the ORIGINAL email, NOT the email address set up with QBO. Example:
Gmail Auto-forward by way of rule:
original-at-email.com - send to qbofwd-at-gmail.com - message is sent as FROM original-at-email.com
NOT accepted by QBO
Gmail Manual forward no rule:
original-at-email.com - send to qbofwd-at-gmail.com - message is sent as FROM qbofwd-at-gmail.com
IS accepted by QBO
Other email platforms would simply redirect showing some other auto-generated email or the original email - nothing would work.
Basically, the only way auto-forwarding rules work is IF the email addy you are using will forward your messages on showing your 'approved' email address as the FROM address.
All that said, I think it is absolutely deplorable that a company the size of Intuit cannot get a couple of brain cells to collide and provide functionality of a RECEIPT SUBMISSION USER ONLY role in ALL of their platforms. I'm so tired of reading the canned post about posting your "wish list" for us to see and we'll look into it garbage - this has been on Intuit's plate for OVER THREE YEARS. Does not give me a lot of confidence in the programming capabilities of this company if they cannot make this simple change in this amount of time.
Wishing for an official solution, but sadly not expecting it from Intuit. Thankfully we have the assistance of other users who provide more help than the Intuit team has in this situation.
Actually QB should just have a user type available for receipt submission only. That is what is needed. OR even better, just set it up in the program which email addresses (not users) are allowed to submit receipts.
I think it is ridiculous the lengths we have to go to just to give staff the ability to submit receipts for approval.
Hello there,
I can see how convenient it is for you and your business. Currently, this type of user is unavailable in QBO. As we value your suggestions, I recommend sending your feedback to our Product Development Team. Here's how to send feedback:

Is there still no resolution to this issue? Has anyone tried to contact Gmail for their input on a solution? Just wondering before I jump down that rabbit hole...
Hello there. Let me share an update regarding this thread, @Matriarch4.
The custom email is designed to receive and process forwarded receipt images and documents. Currently, it's still unavailable to accept or process codes from Gmail or any other email service. Also, you can contact Gmail Support to check if the validation process can be bypass.
Since incorporating this feature into our software benefits your business, I recommend sending a request to our product engineering team so they can consider including this feature in the upcoming updates. To do so, here's how:
Also, if you wish to personalize your sales forms in QBO, you can check this article: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.
You can freely post again in the Community if you have other questions regarding the forwarding filter for QB expenses while using Gmail. The Community is always here to help you.
