I want to be able to create a quote (estimate) where each line item can show a particular discount. Any way to do this?

I’m happy to assist you with creating an estimate where each line item can show a discount. QuickBooks does have the capability to assign discount per line item in sales forms.

Below are the steps:

First, you’ll need to enable the line level.

1. Click the gear icon and select Company Settings.
2. In the left panel, pick Sales.
3. Next, click the section named Sales form content.
4. Enable or tick the option named Item-wise discount.
5. Click Save and then Done.

Second, to use the line level on and estimate, do the following below.

1. Open the sales form, i.e. invoice, sales receipt, estimate or credit note.
2. In the Product/Service column, find an item that you would like to bill your customer for.
3. In the Discount column, enter a discount percentage or a discount value.

I am using Online Advanced edition as a trial (moving from Enterprise) because I need the 'Item-wise" line level discounts. The setting for discount is there but that only discounts on the order total, not the item. There is no setting for the Item-Wise line level discount showing in my settings and that's what I need. Is it because I'm using the trial. I want to know if this works as needed on imports and exports before I move over permanently.

The option to set up the discount per line item is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO) Advanced version. The Discount feature provides you two options either Discount percent or Discount value option. This gives you the total discount based on the total amount per item.

If you give a set of discounts for set amounts, you can create a new product item that you can add to an estimate. First, we need to create a discount item.

Here's how:

1. Click the Gear icon on the top menu.
2. Choose Products and Services and hit New to create a new item.
3. Select Non-inventory or Service for the type.
4. Name the item Discount. If you want to create multiple discount items, give them unique names so they're easy to tell apart.
5. In the Sales price/rate field, enter the discount as a negative amount. This is a dollar amount and not a percentage.
6. From the Income account drop-down menu, select the Discount given account. QuickBooks creates this account for you when you turn on the discount feature.
7. From the Sales tax category drop-down menu, tap Nontaxable.
8. Tick Save and close.

Second, add the discount item when creating an estimate. Here's how:

1. Click the + New button on the left menu.
2. Choose Estimate.
3. Select products and services. Then fill out the rest of the form.
4. Add the Discount item you just created. You can adjust the discount if you need to, just make sure it's a negative amount.
5. Hit Save and close.

Currently, the option to set up a discount per line item is not available in all QuickBooks Online versions. For now, you can follow the workaround shared by my colleague RCV on how to create a new product item and add the discount to the transactions.
