Does Quickbooks Online have a report that is equivalent to the QB desktop report entitled "Income and Expense Detail"? The Statement of Activity is close, but I need to see the details within each category.
Yes, QuickBooks Online has a report that is equivalent to the Income and Expense Detail report in QuickBooks Desktop, Sandie7.
You can pull up and run the Profit and Loss Detail report in QuickBooks Online to show all the categories you need.
Here's how:
I recommend customizing the report to get the specific categories you need. You can also memorize it to save its current customization settings. It serves as your record and helps you quickly access it for future use.
Additionally, in case you want to know what other reports you can pull up, you can go through this article: Reports included in your QuickBooks Online subscription.

It doesn't appear that this report is available in the Simple Start level of service. Am I right?
Thanks for coming back to the Community, @Sandie7.
Yes, the Profit and Loss Detail Report is only available in QBO Essentials, Plus, and Advanced. You can consider upgrading to any of these versions so you can access more comprehensive reports.

I have QuickBooks Advanced and this does not appear to be available there, either.
I appreciate you reaching out to us about this missing report in your account, Margaret.
Let me help you locate or resolve this concern. I've tried this in my QBO Advanced account and I found the report under Business Overview.
If you're unable to find it still, try logging in to a private web browser and see if the problem come ups. Unexpected issues in QuickBooks are sometimes associated with the amount of data stored in the cache. This is because a regular browser will constantly overwrite itself and will not remove history unless done manually.
Private browsing will not save any history, so it's a great place to identify issues in the browser. Use these keyboard shortcuts to launch a new private window:
Try to access the account again and see if it gives you the same problem. If it works correctly, clear the cache to resolve browser issues in QBO. You can also use a different browser and see if the issue persists there.
If it does, I recommend that you contact our Support Team for further assistance. Here's how:
Also, our chat support might have a lesser wait time, so you can have them do a screen share session when needed.
Please post here for updates or additional questions about this problem. I'll be right here to help you out.
The report did not appear in the Standard Reports area. Using the main search area, I was able to find the Profit and Loss by Detail report. I had to save it as a customized report in order to keep it accessible.
So I have QBO Plus. I am able to run the profit and loss. However, our bank loan is set up as long term liability. On the profit and loss, it only shows the interest paid, since it is an expense. It does not show the principal paid, therefore not an accurate display of how much money went out the door for a given month. Even though I select "Select All" for the distribution accounts. (Including the loan). what report can I run that truly shows all money coming in, and all money coming out. Thank you
You can run a Transaction List by Date report, FlyingDutchman. This allows the data to show all your money-in and money-out transactions for each month. Let me guide you through the process.
In your QuickBooks Online account, run and customize the report to show liability entries for a given month. To do these:
In addition, you may run a Statement of Cash Flows report that shows all operating and financing activities made from your account. For more detailed data, you can filter the Display columns by dropdown to Months.
Furthermore, I recommend memorizing your reports to save their current customization settings. It serves as our record and helps us quickly access it for future use.

Thank you for your suggestion. Is there a way I can make it total by Account Full Name? Or I would call it by category. Basically I want it to look just like the profit and loss, just including every dollar that was spent.
Thank you for reaching community space, FlyingDutchmanRVResort. I appreciate your time and effort wanting to know how to sort out your reports. I'm here to assist you in identifying the most efficient solutions to resolve this issue quickly.
Since profit and loss is a different transaction, we are unable to make them total by Account Full Name. However, we can customize the report Transaction List by Date report.
