Here is a screenshot of my Preferences within QBO Time. This option you refer to does not exist.
Can you provide information for how to accomplish getting contractors into TIME from your QBO Accountant books? I use QBO as the accounting software for my CPA practice yet I CANNOT get contractors into TIME. they HAVE to be employees which causes issues with tax reporting at year end. HELP!
@Ronnie444 - Ronnie444 did an excellent job sharing how to get contractors to import into QuickBooks Time. I just did it using the Accountant Version. I will send invites, have them track time, etc here and then create a bill to pay them via direct deposit using an active QBOP subscription. I haven't decided to take the route of another poster by assigning them as preferred vendors to specific product/service items because that messes up my job costing code system...I'll just line item the cost codes into the bill and pay via direct deposit to be sure the costs are for the right cost codes. I'm not sure - I'll figure it out as I go, but at least I can get all the contractors to download the app and use it for time tracking. How I integrate or dont integrate into QuickBooks Payroll is yet to be seen.
This is what my screen has in TIME QB Preferences. I am thinking your screen looked different because I don't see anywhere the place in Other Options to choose to have contractors come over. HELP!!!
Hi there, @lswilburncpa. Thanks for getting back and providing a screenshot.
I'll share some details and a screenshot where you can find the preferences with other options.
If you log in to TSheets, you can find the preferences option by clicking the QuickBooks Payroll menu at the top-right.
Once done, a new window will open showing the QuickBooks Integration Preferences. From there, look for the Other Options section and select the Import contractors as team members. Before importing, please know that only vendors with a First and Last name in QuickBooks will be imported.

Part 2:
paying your contractors through Time/QBO
You’ll need to enter a new bill for your contractor in QBO. I record as a bill because it’s being paid in the future, whereas expense would be immediate. There are threads that walk you through all of this if needed - I’m sorry I’m doing this from memory.
You have to approve there hours worked in Time. They will not pull over into QBO and show under Payroll Overview, and Approve Time option with the rest of your team.
Once approved, go into the upper right corner of Time, click QuickBooks Payroll, and then Export Approved Time. It should then sync into QBO, and allow you to pay them via direct deposit or check, whichever method you choose.
Hopefully this helps!
THANK YOU!!!!!!
That was SO EASY!!! Worked like a dream!!!!
I Exported the Approved time, sync log says it was exported but there is nothing in QBO for contractors or vendor time.
Hi there, nick thompson. I'm here to assist you in exporting their time.
If their time has been approved and the sync log has no errors. It's possible that the Exporting Time to QuickBooks setting was set to a future date, which is why your contactor's time isn't showing up in QuickBooks Online. We can adjust the export time by going to Preferences. I'll show you how:
Once done, you can now export their time again. For further details, see this article: Export QuickBooks Time timesheet data to QuickBooks Online.
I've also included a link to a short video to help you invoice your contractors in QuickBooks: How to Enter Billable Time: Employees & Contractors.

doesnt help, i dont have time activity, and Time only says "Access your Elite time tracking" launch Quickbooks Time".
I've narrowed down to it requiring payroll items to be mapped, but you cant do that with contractors.
so unless its a billable service item tied to a project. nothing happens when you export contractor time.
Were even tried using API to create bills to get around this. but the Quickbooks Time API doesn't have any indication of something being approved or not. Best we can do is use email notifications that an timesheet was submitted and then create a bill using time entries, or use the locked status on a timesheet combined with the approval date on the user to determine if something was exported idk this whole thing is frustrating, why is there no easy way to pay hourly contractors for their time.
I appreciate you for coming back to the thread and adding extra details about your concern, nick thompson. I'll be providing information on how exporting your data works from QuickBooks Time to QuickBooks Online. I'll ensure you'll be routed to the right support team to assist you further on this matter so you can export data smoothly.
When using timesheets for payroll or contractors and vendor time in QuickBooks Online, approving and exporting them from QuickBooks Time is needed. This is to ensure that data is successfully exported.
Since you're getting the error about "Access your Elite time tracking" launch Quickbooks Time" after performing the steps, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Online Support Team as they have the tools to pull up your account in a secure environment and thoroughly investigate why some data doesn't appear in QBO like contractors or vendor time.
Here's how to contact them:
On the other hand, The QuickBooks Community site can only assist with QuickBooks-specific issues. With this, we have a separate forum where you can interact with fellow developers, product experts, and engineers about any API-related questions. Since your other concern is connected to creating bills using API, I encourage posting your question to our Intuit Developer Community as they can provide more insights on what you need.
Here's how:

This is how I was able to add contractors in Time as well. Now they can add their hours using the Time mobile app. I would love for these hours to attach to projects, though. We use QBO projects for each job and contractors' hours are not being reflected in the job costing. Is this a possibility?
I appreciate your explanation of how you've successfully added contractors to Time and enabled them to log hours using the mobile app, Alohaelectric.
I understand the importance of accurately reflecting job costing through the integration of contractor hours with specific projects. Allow me to share insights about handling projects.
Ultimately, the goal is to ensure that the hours logged by contractors in the Time app are seamlessly linked to the relevant QBO projects, providing accurate job costing information.
I'm also sharing this link to learn how to use projects to track your labor costs and profitability in QBO: Track hourly labor costs and profitability by the project in QuickBooks Online.
