I use the desktop version of QB and with the upgrade to 2021 I am no unable to drill down on P&L statements to get to the detail of the balances. It used to open a general ledger. Is there some setting that I changed causing this problem?

Maybelle,
I was preparing to get with Customer Support when I got a chance to ask a local QB expert. She suggested I move QB to my main monitor. I did so and immediately everything worked: the mouse cursor changed when hovering over an item on the job profitability and I was able to double click to open to item cost detail. For some reason, QB disables this when viewed on a monitor other than the primary monitor on at least some multi-monitor setups.
Please get the design/tech team to fix this issue and release a patch.
Thanks.
I’ve got you covered, @NCAP Chris.
Data issues might be the reason that you’re unable to drill down Profit & Loss statements. I can provide troubleshooting steps here so you'll get the balance details.
You can utilize the Verify Rebuild Data tool in QuickBooks Desktop. It identifies the most commonly known data issues within your company file while resolving them right away. Here are the steps to do it:
Please know that you'll need to log in to your Desktop account using the single-user mode when performing this process. You can check this reference about fixing data concerns for additional instructions if the issue remains the same.
In case you need more information about our report features in QuickBooks. Feel free to check this reference about customizing reports. This improves management systems, streamlines processes, and can help you become more efficient.
If you have other concerns besides reports, just let me know by posting a comment below. I'll always be around. Have a good one!
This solution did not result in correction. I have no data errors.
Thanks for following the troubleshooting steps shared by my colleague and its result, @NCAP Chris.
Verifying and rebuilding function is a good start to isolate the issue since you don't have data errors, I'd recommend running the QuickBooks File Doctor. To get the most out of your QuickBooks File Doctor experience, we recommend using it on Windows 10, 64-bit.
Here's how:
After the scan finishes, open QuickBooks and your company file. Please take note that your issue may have been resolved even if the scan says it was unsuccessful. To learn more about this process, I encourage reading this guide: Fix company files and network issues.
For additional reference about running and customizing reports in QBDT, you may check this article:
Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions about this concern. I want to ensure you're taken care of. Have a nice day ahead.
It would be helpful to know if NCAP Chris had success with the 2nd step, using the Tool Hub File Doctor. I have the same problem with not being able to drill down any longer. And we are having problems with printing and saving to PDF in our various company files.

Hello there, Rochelle.
You can try performing the troubleshooting steps to isolate company file errors and unusual behaviors. I suggest updating QuickBooks Desktop to its latest release first and then create a backup of your company file.
Then, you can run reports and print them to check if updating the system fixed the issue. If the same thing happens, you can fix the company file with QuickBooks File Doctor. However, if the unusual behavior persists, you can verify and rebuild data.
If you're unable to print, email, or save as a PDF from QuickBooks Desktop, you can click here.
Keep me posted on how this works so I can help you with handling your reports. Take care and have a great day!
I just went through all the steps described above (verifying & rebuilding data and running the Desktop file doctor) and still do not have the ability to drill down in my profitability reports to see what makes up the items on it.
Just to make sure we are talking about the same thing, it used to be when I hovered over an item in the Job Profitability, about where the black arrow is, that my mouse cursor would turn into a lightning bolt or Z with a circle around it, and then when I clicked (or double clicked) it would open up another report showing every item that went into that total.
I have made no changes to QB settings since this last worked. I don't use it every day, but it is necessary at times.
Please help me fix this.
I am using QB Desktop Pro 2020 and having (I believe) the same problem.
It used to be that if I opened up a job profitability report and hovered over a line item (for example, costs), my mouse cursor would change to something like a lightning bolt or Z surrounded by a circle), and if I clicked it opened up another report that showed all the individual items that went into that total.
After trying all the fixes listed above (verifying and rebuilding the data, and then the Desktop File Dr), I'm getting no errors but still don't have the cursor change and nothing happens if I click or double click the item on the JP report.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? I have been using QB for some time and never had this issue until the last few months.
I did change computers a few months ago. Is this possibly an error within the QB program? Should I try uninstall and reinstall?

I'm here to ensure you'll view the needed data in the Job Profitability report, amasterrenovationsinc.
With this, I'd suggest contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. They're equipped with tools to check the main cause of the issue. It'll also allow them to submit a ticket to our engineering team to alert them about the issue if necessary.
Additionally, I've included these articles that'll help you manage your reports in QuickBooks:
I'm only a post away if you need more help in completing your other tasks in QuickBooks. It's always my pleasure to help you out again.
Thank you so much. I tried to verify, rebuild etc and nothing working. Moving it back to the main monitor actually worked!
Hello @masterrenovationsinc,
I have reviewed the solution you’ve shared and it's correct and accurate. Thank you for sharing your inputs to help address the issue.
We love to see members supporting one another! Have a great day.
It happened to me too and putting back to the main desktop is the workaround solution. Any permanent fix from Intuit?
Hi harry_q!
I know it will be much more convenient if we can also drill down reports on a secondary monitor.
So far, we haven't received any news about this. I encourage you to submit feedback from your company file so our product engineers know it will help you a lot if you have the same functionality on your secondary monitor.
Please note that feedback is our way of collecting bug reports or ideas that are helpful for users. However, there is no guarantee or timeframe as to when a particular feature will be created or rolled out. The impact and number of requests also matter.
You can check this article for any updates in the future: Use QuickBooks on multiple screens or in Multi-Monitor mode.
I'm just right here if you have other questions about certain features in QuickBooks. I'll be happy to lend a helping hand.
It's been a couple years since this was posted, but in case anyone else is looking. Set Quickbooks to Multi monitor view and you can drill down on any monitor. Otherwise, as mentioned below, QB has to be on your main monitor.
View > Switch to Multi-monitor mode
How do you set up multi monitor view in QB?
Thanks for joining the thread, @Omertax.
I'd be delighted to walk you through how to set up a multi-monitor view in QuickBooks Desktop.
We can use this feature to increase your productivity. To enable this, go to the View menu and select Switch to Multi-monitor Mode. You can refer to this screenshot below for your visual reference:
Please note that this feature is exclusive to QuickBooks Desktop 2018 and later versions. Here's an article you can read for more details: Use QuickBooks on multiple screens or in Multi-Monitor mode. It includes information about its limitations, common issues, and how to address them.
Also, I've added this helpful resource to help you personalize your reports for future use: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.
Fill me in if you have more queries about your display preferences in QBDT. I'd be glad to assist you further. Take care always and best regards.
Thank you, issue diagnosed. That "fixed it", so I can fix some entry issues.
Also make 2- 42" monitors worthless and forces me to use multiple windows on a 16" laptop. Thanks Intuit!
The solution of moving QB desktop to my main display totally worked. Weird fix, but hey, whatever works.
The reply from masterrenovationsinc was the most helpful. Move QB to the main display allows drill down. This reply did not help.
