Unfortunately this didn't solve it for us. Kind of silly this hasn't been fixed by Intuit in almost 2 years.

Unable to export to Excel

Hi Jason.

I've got some additional troubleshooting steps to help you with exporting your reports to Excel.

To get started, I recommend updating your QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release. This keeps your software up-to-date so you always have the latest features and fixes.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu, then select the Update QuickBooks Desktop tab.
  2. Switch to the Update Now tab. You can select the Reset Update checkbox to clear all previous update downloads.
  3. Select Get Updates to start the download.
  4. When the download finishes, restart QuickBooks.
  5. When prompted, accept the option to install the new release.

Once done, open QuickBooks and try exporting a report:

  1. Go to the Reports menu and open any report on the list.
  2. Select the Excel button. All export options, including Excel, should be available.

If you still can't export your report/s, you can proceed with checking your QuickBooks system requirements. Each version of QuickBooks Desktop works with specific versions of Microsoft Office. You can review the system requirements for your version of QuickBooks: 2018201920202021. If your Excel version isn't compatible with QuickBooks, you'll need to upgrade to the supported one.

If you have the compatible version, you can repair your Office application to fix the problem. Then, go back into QuickBooks and export a report.

As an additional solution, you can also toggle your Windows UAC settings on and off. This should reset anything blocking the export feature.

Here's how:

  1. Open the Windows Start menu. Type User Account Control Settings into the search and open User Account Control Settings.
  2. Select and move the slider to Never Notify. Then select OK.
  3. Restart your computer.

Moreover, you can also uninstall and reinstall your QuickBooks Desktop and Excel application to narrow down the result. For your reference, suggest checking out these links:

Deleting the 1.9 Key worked for me.  The key didn't have any value set, but I deleted it anyway and it fixed my problem. Thanks!

Hello there! Thanks for the solution! It worked for me. However I did not delete it, I just renamed it to DoNotUse so if something else breaks I can change the name back as I have no clue what this key does. But the solution works reports are exporting to excel. :)

Unable to export to Excel

THIS, THIS, THIS!!!!

Thank you so much AEBILO630! I have been struggling with this for over a year and a half, from QB 2019 until QB 2021. I have installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, repaired QB, Office, I've used Office 2007, 2010, 2013 Pro, 32 bit, 64 bit. I downloaded some app to override my UAC settings, I've spent COUNTLESS (well, 20+) hours on this stupid bug. Over the years I've had a 2nd desktop computer that sits running JUST FOR WHEN I NEEDED TO EXPORT TO EXCEL!!!

And all it was was a stupid "1.9" in the registry.

Thank you again! So happy!

Unable to export to Excel

Hi, I have attempted all of these troubleshooting solutions and they have not worked. I even used a 3rd party tool (Revo Uninstaller) to clean the registry completely after uninstalling both programs to ensure there are no residual registry keys causing issues. Intuit support hasn't been much help and neither has Microsoft support.

AEBILO630 You are my hero.   Following your instructions worked.   I was getting frustrated reading the entire 4 pages of threads and getting desperate by the time i got to your suggestion and had tried all the other suggestions with no success.  I was about to lose my mind.   And to the Quickbooks support team, you just keep telling everyone to go to Quickbooks for support over and over, but I feel like if you had read this entire thread, you would see that many did with no favorable result.  I myself have experienced that same issue with other problems I have contacted support on.

Thanks, AEBILO630. I love how the QuickBooks team has entirely ignored this as a solution as of today. I called twice, and only for them to painstakingly remote in and watch me update & re-install as if that's the ultimate playbook. Wasted four hours which is saved by some random person. I'm already seeing this pattern where it's better to just look for answers from strangers.

If all else fails, copy VBE6EXT.OLB from C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\vfs\ProgramFilesCommonX86\Microsoft Shared\VBA\VBA6  (or wherever it is in your office install)

to C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\QuickBooks 2019

Tried all of the above for a user and never could get it working. Created a new user profile? Worked fine. So just copied over their files, bookmarks, etc. and they were good to go. Before that, tried renaming sections of the CurrentUser registry hive for Quickbooks and Excel to maybe narrow down what was in their user profile breaking it, but could never get it to show up properly.

So just went with the new user profile route and worked like a champ.

Unable to export to Excel

I  just installed office 365 and cannot export. It's greyed out.  We have tried everything.  QuickBooks suggested that we uninstall 64 bit and install 32.  But we have apps that need the 64 bit. There is an article from QB that says either 32 or 64 works.  But it does not.   HELP!

Unable to export to Excel

Hi there, Specialk2020.

Thank you for coming back to QuickBooks Community. I'll be providing information on how office 365 works in QuickBooks Desktop. Before that, may I ask what specific version of QuickBooks you're using? I appreciate any further details so I can present an accurate solution.

Each QuickBooks Desktop has different system requirements to ensure that the software works smoothly. For now, office 2010 and Office 2013 and 365 (including Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013) are both works on 32 and 64-bit. However, if you have Microsoft Excel installed on your computer but you can't export reports and other forms from QuickBooks, a few updates should fix the issue. Please know if you’re using Microsoft Office 365, use the version installed on your computer. Don’t use the web browser version.

Then, make sure your version of QuickBooks is up-to-date to ensure you always have the latest features and fixes. After you update, open QuickBooks and export a report.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu and open any report on the list.
  2. Select the Excel button. All export options, including Excel, should be available.

If the issue persists, you can open this article to see further steps on how to fix the issue: Fix export to Excel issues in QuickBooks Desktop.

For questions about QuickBooks Desktop, feel free to visit our site and check our help articles: QuickBooks Desktop Help Articles.

If there's anything else that I can help you with office 365, please let me know by leaving a reply down below. Wishing you well!

OK.  Here's what worked for me about an hour ago.  I did a repair on QB via the Control Panel, which did not work.  I then did a repair on 365, again via the Control Panel.  It =is= working...sort of.  I only use the Summarize PR in Excel report frequently.  Now, when Excel opens I get a message saying that QB_Payroll_Link.xlt has a problem and asks if I want to repair it.  I click on Yes and it chugs away and opens the report.  As it's opening, 2 more messages pop up saying that a Pivot Table has been repaired.    As all I need is the Employee Summary tab, and it's accurate, I have no clue where these Pivot Tables are and if they are working correctly.

Make Excel the default app for which file type to resolve the issue please?

Unable to export to Excel

I appreciate your thoughts and suggestion about making excel a default app, @Chernipeski.

QuickBooks Desktop uses different types of files to store various types of data. It also integrates with hundreds of other apps that can help you export reports.

While using the Excel file, it requires Microsoft Excel 2019, 2016, 2013, or Microsoft 365 (includes 64-bit) when exporting reports. You can save reports as Excel workbooks (.xlsx), CSV spreadsheets, or PDFs and analyze them in Microsoft Excel.

I've added these articles that you check about different file types and software compatibility:

regAEBILO630 - Worked for me. Don't bother reading the rest of this form. Please refer to his answer here or above.

"I'm posting this here to save someone the headache that I had to go through.

After installing Office 365 as a test, and then removing it - the excel options were going from QB.

I uninstalled, reinstalled, repaired, etc. etc. with no luck.

using regedit - Delete the 1.9 key under: (Right Click 1.9 Folder and click delete)

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{00020813-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

Then restart QB - problem solved." - AEBILO630

Unfortunately I have messed with this for a long time and finally it works. I had someone in the office install a newer version of Microsoft Excel for a book report they were doing then I downgraded back to 2010 and it stopped working. Then I bought a new computer that already had Office 365 and I uninstalled that and put my copy of 2010 back on and it was greyed out there too. I just fixed both computers with the above solution. Don't call Quickbooks, dont uninstall everything and reinstall, just do this above and you'll be fixed up.

Is there a way to export to a simple PDF or Google Docs? I do not have Excel with my new computer and I cannot afford to pay for Microsoft 360, but I need my reports.

Unable to export to Excel

Hi there, flowerfree2.

Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community. I'll be providing details on how exporting works in QuickBooks. Then, ensure you'll be able to get the reports by performing an alternative way.

Exporting a report to a simple PDF or Google Docs is currently unavailable in QuickBooks Desktop. You can only select Create New Worksheet and Update Existing Worksheet through Excel. However, you have the option to Print or Email to save the report as a PDF. That way, you'll be able to get your reports with complete data.

Here's how:

  1. From QuickBooks Desktop, go to the Reports menu at the top.
  2. Choose Reports Center. Then, find and open any report.
  3. Choose the Print button and click Save as PDF.
  4.  Select the Email icon and choose Send report as PDF.

For additional information on how exporting, printing, and emailing reports works in QuickBooks, you can open this article: Export reports as Excel workbooks in QuickBooks Desktop.

Lastly, you may refer to this article to view steps on how you can memorize a report to see the same settings of the customized report to be available for future use: Create, access, and modify memorized reports.

Please know that you can always post here if you need further help with reports in QuickBooks. I'd be happy to help you. Take care always.
