When entering an invoice can you split the invoice into different classes

Hello,

If you have Class tracking turned on, you can set QB to assign a class to each transaction, OR to each LINE on a transaction.   Go to Gear/Account and Settings/Advanced/Class Tracking and select each LINE instead of each transaction.

When entering an invoice can you split the invoice into different classes

Hi @sbasfmllc,

Welcome to the Community. I can provide clarification on splitting an invoice into different classes.

@MarshallA is correct in that QuickBooks Online features the ability to assign multiple classes per line item and the steps to enable it. I wanted to take a moment to include a few screenshots of the setting and how an invoice will look:

Lastly, I recommend the following article which contains additional insight into Class Tracking, such as how to edit classes: How to Set Up and Use Class and Location Tracking.

I'm sure you'll have this option enabled without issue.

As always, I'm just a few clicks away if you have any questions. Wishing you well.

Is this possible in QB Enterprise as well?

It's nice to see you here, @Alice24.

Yes, class tracking is available in QB Enterprise. I'd love to guide you in setting this up.

Class tracking helps you to track your items or transactions easily. You'll first need to turn on this feature before using it. Please follow these steps:

  1. Click on Edit from the menu bar.
  2. Choose Preferences
  3. Click on Accounting.
  4. Select the Company Preferences tab.
  5. Tick the Use class tracking for transactions.
  6. Under the Assign classes to drop-down, choose where you want to assign classes.
  7. Click on OK.

Once done, you'll now be able to assign classes depending on which items or transactions you want to track.

Also, you can add classes by going to the Class List. Let me show you how:

  1. Click on Lists from the menu bar.
  2. Select Class List
  3. Under the Class drop-down, click on New.
  4. Enter the Class Name. If the class you're adding is a subclass, tick on the Subclass of checkbox.
  5. Click on OK.

That should do it. Fill me in if you have other concerns by leaving a comment below. I'll be sure to get back to you. Have a good one!

I need to run a report showing open invoices by class, but I do not assign a class to an entire invoice. Each line item has it's own class. I need to know how much is open per class. Is there a way to do this?

Hello ADH01,

Welcome aboard to the Community. I can help share information about the report you need in QuickBooks Online.

You can run the Sales by Class Detail report and filter to only show open invoices per class in the system.

Here's how:

  1. On the left panel, click Reports.
  2. In the search bar, type in Class and select Sales by Class Detail.
  3. Choose a date range.
  4. Click the drop-down arrow beside Group by, and select Class.
  5. Click Customize.
  6. Go to Filter.
  7. Put a check mark beside Transaction Type, and select Invoice.
  8. Put a check mark beside A/R Paid, and select Unpaid.
  9. Click Run report.
  10. Click the small gear icon within the report, select Class.

Here are some sample screenshots for your visual guide:
