You CAN search by phone number, or any part of it
Hello there, @jangel-rmhrfloor.
Thank you for reaching out to the Community. Let's focus on your concern about searching for customers by using their address or phone number in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
At this time, the option to search for customers by address or phone number using the Magnifying glass icon isn’t available. As a workaround, you can run the Customer Contact List Report or go to the Customers tab from Sales on the left pane.
Here’s how to search using the Customer Contact List Report:
1. Go to Reports in the left navigation bar.
2. Type in Customer Contact List in the search box.
3. Press and hold Ctrl +F on your keyboard. A small search box will appear.
4. Enter the address that you’re looking for.
Follow the steps below for another way to search for customer address or phone number:
1. Go to Sales from the left pane and select Customers.
2. Click the small Gear icon on the Customer tab page.
3. Check the box beside Address for that column to appear.
4. On the search box next to Batch actions, enter the customer’s address or phone number.
If you’d like this feature to be added on our future updates, I encourage you sending feedback straight to our Developers. Just click on the Gear icon at the top and select Feedback.

The second option does not work, it will only search the name and not the address
Tip: the app for mobile phones does search addresses
Can you explain how? My mobile app does not search addresses.
The above directions do not work on mobile app.
Hello, @petstop,
I can explain this for you.
Right now, we're also unable to search a customer by address or phone number on the mobile app.
You can only search customer by name in the customer or transaction list page. Here's how:
I've also added this article for additional guidance about features supported on QBO mobile app: Compare mobile app features.
Let me know if there's anything else you need with searching customers and I'd be glad to help.
I wish this was resolved too! I can however search for clients addresses on the phone app if that helps you. But it does not have the function on the pc app
Thanks for sharing information to petstop, Alexis8.
Yes, we can search for customers using their addresses in the QBO mobile app on iPhones, but not on Android phones. petstop could be using an Android phone.
I also like this idea, and I'm requesting to add this, too. In the meantime, we can consider the workarounds shared by my colleagues above.
If you have questions about other functions or features, just let us know.
I wanted to be able to do the same thing, so I found a way around QBO's limitations. Follow the instructions in accessing the customer contact list in your QBO company. Then, export to Excel. In Excel, click on Find & Select. Drop down, and click on Find... In the search box, type in the phone number, then click Find Next. Presto!
Hope this helps!
I am having the SAME ISSUE!
Although I spoke to a Quickbooks customer service rep for 2 hours today, we were still unable to figure out why I can't search for a customer by address. She showed me the QuickBooks Test Drive account and in that account I was able to search vie address, so there shouldn't be any reason why in my own business account I can't also search vie street address.
This problem needs to be resolved ASAP! I've been reporting this issue for over a year now.
Help please, software engineers...
Kelsie
Thanks for joining this conversation, @KelsieC.
I checked if there's an ongoing issue about this, but there isn't currently one. If you already tried signing into your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private browser or performed a clear cache and the same thing happens, I highly suggest contacting our Phone Support again. They can open a ticket regarding this and escalate it to our Product Engineers for further investigation.
Here's how to reach them:
Please let me know if you have any other issues or concerns. I want to make sure everything is taken care of for you. Have a great day!
using the instructions to search by address or phone number in the field next to batch actions DOES NOT WORK.
it's ridiculous that you have to run a report to search for a customer by address or phone number
agreed, it doesn't work, and I haven't been able to search the customer list report either sooooooooo
Presto? now it's taken me 15 minutes to search for a customer by phone number or address. that's not a presto, that's a waste of my time
I moved over from QB desktop 3 years ago! i have been waiting for this update (searching addresses and contacts) and i have requested this several times with the hopes that it was coming soon. But nothing has been done to resolve it, or any other upgrades for that matter. I am so disappointed in QBO because it has the potential to be great! just as the desktop version was. The developers have done NOTHING to upgrade since the initial release. Now they have disabled the support and development for the app as of April 2021. It is not looking good for QBO and Intuit.
I am still on desktop, and this function does NOT work. It's very aggravating. The field in the Customer Job has plenty of space for entering a phone number the traditional way (123) 345-7891 and for international numbers. But for some reason now for the past few years, the Find function does not work for phone numbers. The Find field for Name Phone Number is truncated and will only take a US phone number with no punctuation or spaces. Really QB, you need to fix this issue. I raised this a long time ago, and none of your updates ever fix these kind of bugs.
I just tried it and it seems to work fine for me in QB Desktop. I do note that I have to put the phone number in exactly as it is entered because the phone number field is text and stores every character, not just the numbers: (123) 456-7890 and 123-456-7890 and 1234567890 are all different.
