In past years, I would click on the vendors tab and then click on 1099 forms, and the vendors which needed 1099s would automatically appear in the 1099 summary report. I could easily print them.
This year no vendors are on the 1099 summary report. How can I print the 1099 forms if I don't have any vendors on the list? I need some instruction.

Hi there @ABC1236,
Thanks for reaching out to the Community. Let me help you get the 1099 NEC report you need. It’s likely that the vendors aren’t showing up on the report because they haven’t been mapped as
1099 NEC or 1099 Misc yet. In order to get the mapped, we will want to go through the 1099 Wizard to print your 1099’s. You can cancel out prior to actually efiling or printing once you have mapped them and they will populate on the 1099 Summary Report. Here’s how:
Here is a link for detailed instructions for reference: Create and file 1099's
Once you map the accounts you can cancel out of the wizard and you will be good to go. I’ll be around for any other questions you may have about 1099’s or anything else. Drop a comment below and I’m happy to help.

But why is the 1099 Summary report broken? It has worked for years, and yes, I know how to set up vendors to be 1099 eligible, and yes, I know how to map GL accounts. To do what you suggest, I have to kick everyone out of QB, go to single user mode to create this report. How do we get the original QB report 1099 Summary to work again?
Welcome to the thread, @BoDean1.
I've replicated your concern on my sample file, but it doesn't give me the same result as you.
To isolate the issue, I recommend running the verify and rebuild tool. It will help us identify the common data issues within your company file. But before doing so, I suggest creating a backup copy of your company file.
Once done, start to verify and rebuild your QuickBooks Desktop.
To run Verify data:
To run Rebuild data:
For more details about the Verify/Rebuild process, check this article: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.

Please keep me posted here on your progress with this, I want to make sure you're taken care of. Thanks for reaching out, wishing you all the best.
Hi. Thank you for your assistance. I followed your steps to backup, verify & rebuild the data. The outcome did not change. When I run the 1099 Summary (whether for Misc or NEC), I get no results for any year I try to run it for. This report worked perfectly for many, many years. We last successfully ran this report on 11/18/21. This was right around the time we ran the QB update (We are running QuickBooks Premier Edition 2021 Release R8P). Now the report hasn't worked since then.
Thanks for keeping us updated, BoDean1.
Since the issue persists after performing the troubleshooting steps above, I'd recommend contacting our technical supports. This way, we'll be able to look into your account and investigate this reporting issue. Here's how to connect with us:
I've also included an article that will help you in preparing and filing your federal 1099s with QuickBooks Desktop: Create and file 1099s.

I am having the same issue!!
Please let me know if you get it figured out.
Thanks for bringing this one to our attention, RRR10.
I've checked here on our end and there's no reported case about this one. If one of the contractors you set up in QuickBooks is missing or not showing correctly when you create your 1099s, it could be they're not active or marked as eligible for 1099. Here's where to check on that and what 1099 reports you can create:
Once completed, repeat steps 1 and 2. Then in the 1099 options drop-down menu, choose 1099 Vendors. Only those contractors you paid above the annual $600 cash threshold get 1099. The credit card payments are not included and these payments will be reported by the financial institution. This is not be included in the company's 1099 values. We can see which contractors didn’t meet the threshold with these steps and 1099 reports. Here's how:
If this is a 1099 Vendor using 1099 Accounts, you need to enter more transactions or change the thresholds. Let me show you how:
I've got an article you can refer to for more details about understanding payments categories for the 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC. This helps us review more information on what forms or boxes you can choose when entering for both non-employee compensations.

I'm just one click away if you have follow-up questions or concerns about processing your 1099 forms. I'm more than happy to assist you. Take care and have a wonderful day ahead.
I'm also having the same issue! The 64K question is WHY is this happening and WHY doesn't QB provide a fix for it. I'm using QB Desktop Premier on two different systems, one on a hosted network and one on a laptop, and these are using different licenses as well. Four different company files between the those platforms and I cannot get a 1099 Summary or 1099 Detail report to provide any data when I run them for any company. So frustrating. I look forward to hearing a resolution on this. I don't think anyone really has margin in the daily work this time of year to be allotting extra time for software issues that we did not cause.
Hi there, Mwilson2.
I have another way to view the data you needed for the 1099-NEC vendors report. We can lookout it through the 1099 wizard. Here's how:
Click on Vendor tab at top.
Press 1099 forms.
Then you'll get a notice about "before you prepare and file forms 1099, click Yes. You have the option to "Get Started" for 1099misc or 1099nec.
Once you clicked get started for 1099nec, hit Continue. Then press Continue again (this is the verify your 1099 info screen).
Tap Continue again to map vendor payments and accounts.
Now you can view the detail report at the top right where you see 1 2 3 4 5, just below the description for the numbers you will see View Detail Report.
Click Continue and in the same place on the next screen you will see View Summary Report.
Feel free to hit that Reply button if you have additional questions about 1099-NEC report. Have a great day ahead. Stay safe!
Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, providing a work-around does not answer or resolve the question about why the 1099 Summary Report and 1099 Detail Report do not populate any results. The reports are completely blank except for the report headings. When can we expect Intuit to fix this issue?
Thanks for following up with the Community, Mwilson2.
If you've already performed the recommended troubleshooting in this thread and your reports aren't populating the appropriate information, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.
They can be reached while you're signed in.
Here's how:
Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.
If there's any questions, I'm just a post away. Have a wonderful day!
When you press "View summary report" it still does not populate the report. The report is having issues producing a report. Is there a fix to this?
Thanks for following this thread, @wchavez. I understand we need to have this fixed.
Since the report is still not populating on your end, I'd suggest contacting our Customer Care team at this point. They can take a closer look at the issue and help you fix it.
Here's how:
Please know that phone support may be limited due to high call volume.
For future reference, read through this article: Understand which payments are excluded from a 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC.
Keep in touch if you have additional concerns. I'd be happy to get back and help again.
My report will generate if I choose the NEC dropdown at the top, but the report also shows the vendors that are 1099 MISC??
I can share some information about 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC forms, @ddm2.
If you need to file both 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC forms, you'll need to adjust your Chart of Accounts to ensure accounts are set up specifically for each form.
To create a new account to your Chart of Accounts to track the separate payments.
Then, you can choose to create a journal entry to move amounts to show in the newly created 1099-NEC accounts or you can edit existing payments to the new accounts.
To add a journal entry:
Edit existing contractor payments:
You can now run a 1099 Summary or 1099 Detail report to validate the changes to reflect the correct amounts in each account for both the 1099-NEC and the 1099-MISC.
Here's how:
Once these steps are completed, you're ready to begin filing your 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC forms.
Also, you'll want to know how to access and print your other tax forms to save a copy for future use. Please refer to this article for the detailed steps: View and print payroll tax forms.
I'm always here if you have more questions about managing your payroll forms. I'd be glad to hear more from you in the comment section. Take care and enjoy the rest of the day.
I agree! Same issue! I don't want to go through the whole mapping just to go through my vendors for verification, I want a list. I don't want to go through and map them twice...when I need a list, and then when I'm ready to print. This is a mess!!
