West Virginia unemployment increased their wage threshold to $9,521.00 as of January 1, 2024. When and how will Quickbooks get this corrected. When this happened in 2022, my Quickbooks was never corrected. I had to do manual entries and it took the errors to Opening Balance Equity, which is not correct. Why can't Quickbooks have this ready by the first of the year?
Hello there, jminger. I'm delighted to provide information about how to get the latest payroll updates in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
The West Virginia Unemployment Insurance Tax Rates will be automatically updated in QuickBooks through Payroll Tax Table Updates. That said, you will need to wait for the latest updates from QuickBooks and your state tax agency to have the latest and most accurate rates and calculations.
While we don't have a specific timeframe for when this update will be implemented, I recommend updating your tax table to the latest release so you'll always have the latest features and fixes if you haven't already. In case you don't have the latest payroll update, you can follow these steps to update it:

We have already downloaded the entire payroll updates and this has not fixed the West Virginia Unemployment wage threshold from $9,000 to the new $9,521. This was released by the WV Unemployment department on December 6, 2023, so why has Quickbooks not updated their records yet? Quickbooks should allow individuals to change this threshold number as this has happened in 2022 and never did get fixed on our payroll. Is there anyway we can override the $9,000 and input the correct amount of $9,521?

This does NOT fix the West Virginia Unemployment wage base threshold! The threshold can only be changed by Intuit, not manually. The wage base threshold went from $9,000 to $9,521. Intuit needs to get this fixed ASAP as all payrolls are calculating the unemployment tax per employee incorrectly. This is very frustrating that no one at Intuit seems to care or understand how to fix this.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, @jminger.

I am having the same issue. I also had the same issue in 2022 as well and had to make manual adjustments to the unemployment deducted from paychecks. I do not understand why this can't be updated in a payroll update. Without making manual adjustments, Quickbooks will also generate an incorrect quarterly wage report for WV. This program/payroll subscription costs way too much to have to make adjustments manually to compensate for the missing payroll update.
