I had set up QB to open without a password (in preferences). However, now QB asks for a password before opening the company file. How do I get rid of that requirement?

yes I have tried that and it does not accept the login when left blank.  I really need to get this solved, i think I am going to try it one more time without doing the update during download and see what happens. then if that does not work I will just have to buy a new program and start from scratch with and see if that will do it.I have a years worth of work to do and I need a solution. I wish QB would not have pushed that on us, after all it is our liability not theirs if we get compromised.

This password requirement isn;t protecting anything for users who have very small businesses and have Quickbooks on secured computers. Saying that you're protecting our information is just something that you're telling yourselves to avoid listening to your customers.

Changing your password is a breeze, @rossanne23023.

You've got me here to help you accomplish this goal.

QuickBooks Desktop desktop doesn't have a company password. However, users can set their passwords and can change them at any time.

I'll guide you on how you can change your password:

  1. Log in to your company file.
  2. Click on Company at the top.
  3. Select on Change Your Password
  4. Enter your New Password and confirm it.
  5. Select on Confirm

I've included here some references that you can check out to guide you in resetting passwords and modifying users in QuickBooks Desktop:

I'm always available to assist you if you need more help with passwords or anything with QuickBooks. Just leave a reply below. Have a lovely day, Rossanne.

I have followed your instructions so many times and I get a window to reset my password after I reset my password.  It just goes in a never ending loop no matter how many times I reset the password.  I am the primary Admin on all the desktop companies (verified by Intuit if I login to account management with email and text code) and yet, QBdt will not accept my last (or any) password and I can't open any of the 9 companies I have in desktop.  Every one in a while I can get in by some weird miracle - can't figure that out - but usually I just am locked out of desktop.  I bought the product, I am the primary admin, verified by Intuit, but I can't login with a password.

The first window that comes up after I open desktop and then select a company to work on, is a window that requests a password for the company I selected.  I have to enter a password, I can't skip it.

I've gotten Help several times, am given different "solutions" that don't make sense and when I try to implement them, they don't work.  What is the crazy deal with software I own and have standalone on my PC - and I can't use ?????

Changing my password is NOT a breeze.  QBdt Pro 2021 purchased 8 months ago.  I can login less than once in a blue moon, if that.  I confirmed today that I am the primary Admin - status Active - after the Help chat told me I was not.  The other chat "solutions" were for QBO after I explicitly explained I am on QBDT.....???

When I use the solution you presented - I just get in a never ending loop - the window keeps asking me over and over again to change my password, i.e., I change the password, then it asks me to change it again, never ending.  I never can open the company file and start working...  what is the deal???? I own the software, not a subscripton, on my laptop, standalone.... so ???

This isn't the kind of experience we want you to have in changing your password to access your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) company, @ECBKPG. That's why I'm here to share further details about this matter.

For the time being, we have an ongoing investigation about password looping when the admin changes their login credentials in QBDT. Rest assured that this issue is being taken care of with utmost urgency. Hopefully, you can get back to business and access your company files in no time.

In keeping with this, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care team. They can add your account to the list of affected users. This ensures you're in the loop about the investigation's status and its fix. You can provide INV-38139 as your reference. You'll first have to check out our support hours to ensure we can assist you on time. Here's how:

  1. Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Select the Contact Us button.
  3. Enter a brief description of your concern in the What can we help you with? field and click Continue.
  4. Choose a way to connect (Chat or Callback).

Also, I'm adding these articles to further guide you in getting back into your company file and user login restrictions in QBDT:

We appreciate your patience regarding this matter. Please keep us posted on how it goes in the comments below. If you have other security and access concerns in QBDT. I'm always here to help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, @ECBKPG.
