Multi-user is setup up and working. Server 2016 with QB Premier 2017 R5. The QBDB Manager is on the domain controller and the service is running as a local system. Everything works fine, but now I have the users getting forced into single use mode each morning. I resolve it by hitting scan folders in the QBDB Manager. It seems to restart the QBCFMonitorService.
Why is the service crashing?

I found another article that says to set the QBCFMonitorService to restart automatically - - I just did that now. Still, isn't it bad for a service to be crashing like this?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Hey
We have found that increasing the QB cache size at least reduces the frequency of the services crashing if not eliminating it completely.
QuickBooks NEEDS to FIX THIS ISSUE once and for all.
This has been an ongoing problem for many of us. And I don't care how many times they point out the same articles touting the solution(s) - nothing works.
We even went as far a purchasing an actual "server" to host the company files, thinking that may be the solution - still hasn't fixed the issue. At minimum 2x a week I have to run the Database Server to fix the shared files so we can work.
Not a happy camper.
I appreciate you for letting us know, @S Beers.
I've checked the investigation status about this issue and it's already resolved.
If you've processed the recommended troubleshooting steps and you're still experiencing the same problem, I encourage you to contact our QuickBooks Desktop Technical Support Team. They have the tools to do a remote session and need to dig deeper as to what's causing this issue to reoccur.

Slightly different problem.
Have been successfully hosting the QB file on a stand alone server with 2 workstations accessing.
Laurie has a desktop working perfectly. Tony purchased a new laptop and has this issue.
If Laurie logs in first, Tony gains access in multi user mode. No issues.
If Tony logs in first, he is logged in as Single user and can't switch to multi user
Laurie receives the message to run File Doctor
If he then logs out and allows Laurie to login, Tony can once again gain access in multi user mode.
I'm guessing a setting on Tony's new laptop?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Hello tonymau,
I'm glad to see you reaching out to the Community. Let me help you figure out why you're getting this result in multi-user mode.
First, you'll need to make sure only one computer is hosting the company file, which is the standalone server. Please double-check and make sure to turn off hosting on the laptop.
Here are the steps:
Please note that if you see anything other than Stop hosting multi-user access, it means hosting is currently turned off on that computer.
Once done, the next thing you need to do is make sure the set up is correct, and you follow the QuickBooks hosting modes. For more insights and detailed steps, please refer the support link below:

QB, Can you explain why the end of Step 3 says to go to Step 4 if the problem isn't resolved yet Steps 4-7 won't open? The service for DB27 starts and stops. I've done all the steps in 1-3

I had this same error too.
I have some steps to help you resolve H202 and QBCFMonitor error, ttt4.
This error occurs when you're trying to access QuickBooks then which indicates that the QBCFMonitorService.exe file on your computer has stopped working. You'll want to manually restart the QBCFMonitor Service to find out the main problem if you're still getting the error. I've attached a screenshot for your visual guide.
Another option is to use comprehensive anti-virus software to scan your whole computer. This will search not only for malware like viruses and trojans but for worms or rootkits. After finishing the anti-virus scan program, restart your computer and check if the QBCF MonitorService error still persists.
However, if the same thing happens, I suggest reaching out to our support team so they can investigate this further. They have the tools to pull up your account securely.

I am unable to switch into multi-user mode and receiving error message QBCFMonitorService unable to start.....Please help me in this....
Let’s get this resolved so you can switch to multi-user mode, Paula.
Yes, Sarah_2’s recommendation is correct. Restarting QBCFMonitorService.exe can fix the issue. Please know that the QBCMonitorService unable to start error appeared when an important service called QBCFMonitor.exe stopped running.
You can also modify the settings of your Windows Firewall. It may block QuickBooks from communicating with the server giving rise to company file monitor service error.
Here's how:
If the issue continues, install the QuickBooks Database Manager Server update. Follow the steps listed below:
Check out this reference to learn how to host your company files over a network with Database Server Manager in the program: Use QuickBooks Database Server Manager.
Moreover, here's the list of features and tasks that can be performed in two different hosting modes: Features and tasks available in single or multi-user mode.

I have seen this before --- Some instances very similar to above. Related topic: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/other-questions/re-having-to-click-start-scan-in-q...
Basically --- after creating my script - unless hardware issue or too far corrupt of database --- no more multi-user mode issues
Just change the QuickBooksDBXX to whatever version you are using. I also either disable older versions or delete older versions from my services
