I appreciate you for returning to this thread, HOME2. I'm joining here to provide further clarification about updating the EFTPS password and PIN in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

I see that you're used to updating the PIN and password in your QuickBooks Desktop manually to match your new EFTPS password from their website. QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) and QBO have different ways of paying your taxes and forms. Unlike QBDT, QBO doesn't require a password as long as the initial setup is done correctly and all the information entered, such as bank details, are accurate.

Thus, you'll only have to update your PIN and password on the EFTPS website. Any changes you make on the EFTPS site will automatically reflect in your QBO account, which doesn't require you to enter your password. This streamlines your process.

If you'll consider using E-services, you wouldn't need EFTPS. QuickBooks pays and file your taxes and forms electronically for you. You can visit this article for an overview of the payroll taxes and forms we handle for you: Understand the taxes and forms that Intuit submits for you

Thanks for reaching out, @HOME2.

How's your day going so far? I hope all is well.

To clarify, are you needing to change your QuickBooks Online account password? If so, you can follow the steps I'm including below to make your changes.

Please keep in mind your Intuit Account is connected to all of your Intuit products. Any changes you make apply to all of your Intuit products, including QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1. Click on your Profile Icon in the top right corner of the screen in QuickBooks.
  2. Tap on Manage Your Intuit Account.
  3. In the Intuit Account Manager, select Sign in & security.
  4. Choose the User ID, Email address, Password, or Phone section.
  5. Make your changes.
  6. When you're done, hit Save.

That should do the trick. For more information about updating your password, check out Update or change your Intuit Account Sign-In Information

Please let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with. Take care and have a wonderful day ahead!

I have to change my Electronic Federal Tax Payment System, (EFTPS) password every 13 months. I just changed it. How do I update my password in my QB online payroll?

Thank you for your response. To clarify my question regards QuickBooks Online Payroll Core that I use to do my payroll and QB then pays my monthly payroll taxes to the Federal government via the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS). For QB to use this system my company has to have an EFTPS PIN and password that I manage through the EFTPS website. I have to change that password every 13 months for security. When I had QB desktop I could change it in QB but I don’t know how I change it in QB online. Unless I am missing something I would think many other users have the same issue but I have not seen any discussion of it

I'm glad you've joined this thread, @sherylc.

Let me share some info on why Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) payment is being rejected and the steps to changing the password in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

EFTPS is rejected due to incorrect Federal e-pay PIN, Federal e-file PIN, and Internet password (for e-pay) is expired. Check out this article for more info: Handle payroll e-file and e-pay rejections.

Then, to change the EFTPS password in QBDT, you'll need to update it first on the  EFTPS website. If you're done with this, feel free to follow these steps to change your EFTPS internet password in QBDT:

  1. Select Payroll Center from the Employees tab.
  2. Pick the Pay Liabilities option.
  3. In the Pay Taxes & Other Liabilities section, choose your federal tax, then View/Pay.
  4. Click E-payment, then e-pay.
  5. Clear the Remember My Information for Next Time checkbox.
  6. Enter your 4-digit PIN and the new EFTPS internet password and the missing info.
  7. Once done, tap Submit.
  8. The next time you make an e-payment, re-enter your 4-digit PIN and EFTPS internet password. Then, pick Remember My Information for Next Time.
