Can I delete the password requirement when signing in?

No, Intuit instituted new protocols a while back that require that you have a password and change it regularly.

There should be an option to allow you to enable or not the require a password.  I hope that you receive a lot of negative comments on this new requirement.  There's always should be an option to require or not.

I agree.  Our business is very small and a password is a nuisance.

I agree password for this application is a nuisance. I should decide whether I wish to use a password for my usage.

There is a setting NOW, that you can "stay logged in" for up to 90 days, in each file.

Hi Mr frustrated,

The Password Security in QuickBooks Desktop can't be removed. This is designed to protect your critical data such as your Social Security Number, Company EIN, Bank Information (Routing Number, Account Number), or Vendor Tax ID. Though, you'll be asked to change the password every 90 days.

Here's an article for more information: Password security for QuickBooks Desktop.

If this is something our engineers need to look into, you can send feedback by following these steps:

  1. Click Help located at the top.
  2. Choose Send Feedback Online, and click Product Suggestion.
  3. Type in your feedback or feature request.
  4. Click the Send Feedback button.

All feedback goes to them, and everything we update in QuickBooks is based on the information provided by our customers.

Feel free to reach out to us if you have any other questions or concerns about QuickBooks. Thanks.

Can I delete the password requirement when signing in?

It doesn't really matter to me the reasons that QB has built in a password requirement. In my business file, I don't have any sensitive information and I am the ONLY person who would ever be using my QB file. Our business is small, we don't use credit card numbers in QB, and our business is in our home. Why in the world would I need to enter a password to access my OWN file and information? It is a pain and completely unnecessary. Please write an option into it to bypass the password requirement!

Can I delete the password requirement when signing in?

Hello there, @Mommyofabcs.

Allow me to join the thread and help share information about the password requirement when opening QuickBooks.

As mentioned by my colleague RenjolynC, password security is to ensure the protection of your critical data, especially if you have Personally identifiable information entered in QuickBooks.

However, if you wish to remove the password when opening QuickBooks, I suggest sending product request/feedback straight to our product developers to be considered in the future updates.

To send your feedback:

  1. Go to Help at the top menu bar.
  2. Select Send Feedback Online.
  3. Click on Product Suggestion.

I'll also send feedback here on my end about this conversation.

Stay in touch if you have any other QuickBooks concerns, I'll be right here to help you. Have a good one!

I'd be happy to send my feedback if there was actually a "Send Feeback Online" option. There is not, so that's not really an option. Here are all of the menu options, which when expanded don't give the option you listed:

Help
Getting Started
My Settings
Community Basics
Searching
Posting Messages
Bookmarks, Subscriptions, and RSS

Private Messenger
So where would I actually go to submit my feedback? I've posted about this same issue in the past and there hasn't been any changes for years, other than the option to not have to enter my password for 90 days. Customers who don't have sensitive information in their files should not be controlled by QB for what they can do with their own information.

Thank you for adding a reply, @Mommyofabcs.

It's my pleasure to help you send feedback to our product developers successfully.

First, you need to open your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). In the QuickBooks homepage, go to the Help menu, select Send Feedback Online and click on Product Suggestion. Enter your feedback/suggestions in the QuickBooks Feedback page and click on Send Feedback.

Thank you for your patience. Keep me posted if you have any other questions. Happy to help you!

Can I delete the password requirement when signing in?

Hi there, SheilaStJohn.

Yes, you have to provide your accountant the company file password. You are required to enter your password every time you open your file to ensure the protection of your data.

Let us know if you have additional concerns.

Had I known that, I would not have upgraded. I hate passwords, and these files are on my home computer, and if someone accesses that, they have all they need, keeping quickbooks inaccessible is no benefit to me, but simply a barrier to my use, with having to change passwords, and track them, every three months. Why don't you give the purchaser the option of that security, and the ability to not use it, on their own home computers.

Can I delete the password requirement when signing in?

Hello SheilaStJohn,

As an accounting software that provides financial reports to companies and other services, we are obliged to keep our clients' data secured. Also, we are following what was mandated by the IRS to avoid fraudulent activity.

We appreciate this feedback. I'll surely send it to our engineers about being able to modify the security feature in QuickBooks.

If you have any questions, please post them here.

I agree with the general frustration over this password requirement. QB ignoring user input (who are you? a parent and we little kids?)  AND research that proves complex password requirements reduce safety because users tend to write down passwords, as i did (part of the filename now) -> bravo Quickbooks team <-.

Can I delete the password requirement when signing in?

hi @roedel ,

I run Quickbooks 2017-2019 on a single machine. I may create any company file without password for multi-user.  If we didn't enter #EIN on setup wizzard, it is possibly ignoring any password requirement.

Please let people decide on passwords or not.   I literally have 120 passwords that I have to keep track of.   Most of my clients have it written down out in the open so it is not useful in any practical sense.

Can I delete the password requirement when signing in?

This is hugely infuriating.  Intuit is protecting itself, not us.  The desktop app sits on a computer which is already protected by a password.  The additional requirement to not reuse passwords adds insult to injurt.  INTUIT!   WAKE UP AND LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS!

Can I delete the password requirement when signing in?

Hi david97,

I also wouldn't want to memorize passwords. However, we’re dealing with company data. Your clients’, vendors’, and employees’ information are there, too, and need to be protected. We’ll want to ensure that only authorized users have access to your company file, and the file is not vulnerable to data thieves.

The following Personal Identifiable Information (PII) and setting will trigger the password requirement in QuickBooks Desktop:

  • The Credit Card Protection feature is enabled (Company > Customers Credit Card Protection)
  • Employee and Company Social Security Number
  • Company EIN
  • Company Bank Details (Routing Number, Account Number)
  • Company Credit Card Acct. Number
  • Fixed Assets Account Number
  • Other Assets Account Number
  • Other Current Assets Account Number
  • Loan/Other Current Liability Account Number
  • Long-Term Liability Account Number
  • Vendor Tax ID
  • Vendor Account No.
  • Employee's Birth Date (QuickBooks 2018 versions only)

On the other hand, you have the option to keep yourself logged in for a maximum of 90 days. You can use this while we're unable to turn off the password prompt. You'll be logged out after that, and you can use the reset tool in case you forget your password.

I'm taking note of your feedback about reusing passwords. I'm sharing it with our development team to be considered in future updates.

I'm just around if you have other questions.

Can I delete the password requirement when signing in?

My office building has locked doors accessible only with a keycard.  My office has a lock with a key.  My computer is protected by a password.  Why should I then have to enter a password to access Quickbooks?  Why not take it a step further and protect each individual bank account with a password?  How about requiring a password if you want to search for a transaction?  How about requiring a password every time you click "File"?  There's no end to the insanity.

"Passwords require at least 7 characters, including one number and one uppercase letter".  Oh yes, that makes passwords instantly more secure.  How about "Passwords require at least one SpongeBob SquarePants reference and one Kanji character"?  Now that's secure!

Why not use single sign-on (SSO)?  Have your developers look into it.  It's basically been the standard in computing for a decade.
