When I change my password at my banking website. Will my quickbooks still be link to my bank. Or do i need to change password in Quickbooks also

Hi, @tcventures318-gm.

When you recently change your online banking credentials, you'll also have to update the bank information in QuickBooks.

You can click the Edit sign in info button to change the bank's password.
Let me show you how:

  1. Go to the Transactions menu and then select Banking.
  2. Select the tile for the bank account.
  3. Click the Edit ✎ next to the bank name then, select Edit sign-in info.
  4. Enter your updated bank password.
  5. Hit Save and connect
  6. Once you see a confirmation message, click I'm done, Let's go!

QuickBooks automatically downloads the latest available transactions. You can then categorize, match or add them to the bank register.

Additionally, I've also added this step for you to be guided in case you don’t see your recently downloaded bank transactions in QuickBooks Online:

I'll be here if you have other questions. Let me know in the comment section and I'd be happy to back you up. Have a wonderful day ahead.

Has the QuickBooks Online UI been updated? When I click the pencil icon on the tile, I see an "Edit account info" button. Clicking the button opens the Account popup window. Nowhere do I see an "Edit sign-in info" button or link.

Thanks for joining the Community and getting involved with this thread, tfk.

I've reviewed our recently publicized updates and can confirm there's currently no published information about changes to the user interface (UI) on the Banking screen, after using a connected account's Pencil () icon.

I tested this myself in our test drive account, and was able to see/use my Edit sign in info option.

Here's an image showing my experience:

Since you're not seeing your Edit sign in info option for an account that's linked with QuickBooks, I'd recommend checking your browser. It's possible this could have something to do with temporary internet files. Browsing applications store these types of records, but sometimes they can cause issues with certain webpages. You can open a private window and check to see if you're able to see the Edit sign in info option.

Here's how to access incognito mode in some of the most commonly used web browsers:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Option P

If you're able to see your option while browsing privately, it's safe to say this problem's being caused by the browser. It can be fixed by clearing cached data and Intuit-specific cookies.

In the event it continues not displaying while browsing in incognito mode, you'll initially want to try switching to another browsing application.

Here's a list of supported browsers

  • Google Chrome - version 78 or newer
  • Mozilla Firefox - version 76 or newer
  • Microsoft Edge - version 75 or newer
  • Opera - version 68 or newer
  • Samsung - version 10 or newer
  • Safari - version 12 or newer

You can also check a browser's compatibility with QuickBooks by utilizing our browser health checkup tool. QuickBooks supports the current and two previous versions of browsers. If you find that you're using an unsupported version, make sure to update it to its latest release. Steps for doing so can be found on the particular company's website.

In the event you've found no problems that could be causing this with your browser, you'll want to check the operating system and internet speed you're working with.

Here's our supported operating systems and internet speeds:

  • Windows PC - Windows 10, Intel Core i3 or a comparable processor (2013 or newer) with at least 2 GB of RAM, or Windows 10, Intel Core i5 or comparable processor with at least 4 GB of RAM.
  • Mac - OS X El Capitan 10.11, OS X High Sierra 10.13, or newer.
  • Linux - QuickBooks works with Linux, but you'll want to make sure you're using a supported browser and our recommended internet speeds.
  • Internet connection - 1.5 Mbps to 3 Mbps or higher.

If you meet all of our system requirements, but are still unable to see your Edit sign in info option, I'd recommend using a different device and/or internet connection. In the event it continues not displaying on other devices and/or internet connections, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research with you, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

They can be reached while you're signed in.

Here's how:

  1. Use the Help (?) icon.

  2. Click Contact Us.

  3. Enter a description of your situation in the What can we help you with? field, then hit Let's talk.

  4. Select Start messaging or Get a call.

Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.

I've also included a detailed resource about system requirements for QuickBooks which may come in handy moving forward: System requirements

If there's any questions, I'm just a post away. Have an awesome day!

Hi, Dndarmy.

Thanks for joining this conversation. I'm here to help ensure you can change your bank's sign-in information in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

May I know what options you see after clicking the Edit (pencil) icon? Any additional information or screenshot will help me provide the best fix for your concern.

In the meantime, let's sign in to your QBO using a private browser (incognito). There are times browser is full of frequently accessed page resources (cache and cookies), causing some odd behavior.

Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl Shift (Google Chrome).
  • Ctrl Shift (Firefox).
  • Control Option (Safari).
  •  Ctrl + Shift + P (Microsoft Edge)

Once logged in, go back to the Banking menu and try to update your bank's credentials again. You can follow the steps shared by my colleague above for further guidance.

If it's successful, return to your default browser and perform a clear cache. But if it's the same, try using other supported browsers.

To keep your transactions organized, you can use these articles for future reference:

Please let me know if you have follow-up questions about this or anything else. I'm always here to assist. Keep safe.

I ended up disconnecting and reconnecting my bank. That seems to have fixed the issue and was surprisingly easy to do.

This is all I'm able to do...basically nothing and that is the same if I'm in 'incognito'.

I appreciate the image you've uploaded, Dndarmy. I'll provide you with another set of troubleshooting procedures to help achieve your goal.

The page you encountered should only populate if the Edit Account info is selected. To change your online banking credentials, we'll have to choose Edit sign info after clicking the Pencil icon.

updatebankinfo.PNG

If you're still unable to view this option after using a private window or other supported browsers, we can disconnect your bank account. Then, reconnect it again using the updated login details.

Before diving in, please note that this process deletes all the transactions in the For review tab. Therefore, make sure to categorize them first.

When you're ready, mark the Disconnect this account on save checkbox in the current window (as shown in your screenshot), then click Save and Close. Afterward, we'll proceed with reconnecting your account again.

Additionally, here are some articles that you can read to learn how to streamline the categorization of your downloaded online entries and keep your accounts balanced:

You don't understand.  The EDIT MY ACCOUNT DETAILS button is not an option.  The screenshot I sent is all that is provided to me.  There aren't ANY links to click on as options before or after the screenshot provided.

I appreciate you for getting back to us, @Dndarmy

It's our top priority to assist you with your banking concerns. However, we need additional information so we can provide an accurate resolution.

Do you have a Banking tab in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account? If so, please ensure you have access to the pencil icon so you can select the Edit sign-in info to update your password.

Also, please make sure to perform them on the Banking page, and not on the Chart of Accounts.

We'll appreciate any further details you can provide, Dndarmy. We're looking forward to your response. Stay safe and have a wonderful day ahead.

You are correct, I am beginning on the Banking tab.  I do not have any editing available to me after I get into the Edit page.  See more screenshots.

I can see the urgency of getting this resolved. As I've checked our records, I've confirmed an ongoing issue about no option to edit sign in info for bank accounts in QuickBooks Online (QBO). My main goal is to ensure the password on your bank's website and QuickBooks Desktop account matches for a seamless banking experience, Carol. I'm here to shed light on updating the credentials and matching the info.

Yes, the same with QuickBooks Online, it's also necessary to change your password in your QuickBooks Desktop account if you update your credentials on the bank's website. I'd be glad to guide you through the steps.

To start, I recommend disconnecting Bank Feeds for that account. Beforehand, match or delete all the downloaded transactions. You're unable to make changes if there are still pending entries.

After reviewing, matching, and categorizing everything, we can now disconnect your accounts from Bank Feeds:

  1. Go to Lists and then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Right-click the account you want to turn off. Then select Edit Account.
  3. Navigate to Bank Settings.
  4. Select Deactivate all online services, then click OK.
  5. Hit Save & Close.

You can also browse this article to learn more about the process: Disconnect Bank Feeds for an account in QuickBooks Desktop.

Then, make your changes. Make sure both the credentials match to avoid any issues.

Once done, enable the connection to download the latest transactions:

  1. Go to the Banking menu and choose Bank Feeds.
  2. Click on Set up Bank Feeds for an account.
  3. Type in the name of your account in the Enter your Bank's name field.
  4. Click on Continue and provide your online banking credentials.
  5. Follow the prompts to finish adding the account.

For more details, please see this article: Set up or edit bank accounts for Bank Feeds in QuickBooks Desktop.

Finally, it's recommended to review and reconcile your accounts periodically. Doing so ensures that your records are up-to-date and free of errors.
