Trying to update my credit card info to keep the subscription active, when I go to Account and Settings ~ Billing & Subscriptions: a red box tells me "An error occurred"

Hi there, @ott1.

It's possible the browser's cache data is full or damaged preventing you from updating your credit card information. To better isolate if this is a browser issue or not, let's access QuickBooks Online (QBO) using a private or incognito window.

Here's how:

  • Google ChromeCtrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla FirefoxCtrl + Shift + P
  • Internet ExplorerCtrl + Shift + P
  • SafariCommand + Shift + N

Then, you can try to update your credit card information. If it works fine as suggested, go back to your original browser and clear the browser's cache to delete the temporary Internet files. You can use other supported browsers as an alternative.

Also, I recommend contacting our  QuickBooks Online Support Team. They can check and help you with your Billing and subscription which we're unable to do so here in the public forum.

I'm adding our Account management website it provides articles on how to manage your accounts in QuickBooks.

Keep me posted if you need more help aside from this. We're always here for you. Keep safe always.

I'll help you update your credit card information,  lissa_3506.

There are just a few steps to change your billing info. I'll show you how.

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as a Master or Company Admin.
  2. Go to the Gear ⚙ icon and then select Account and Settings.
  3. From the left menu, choose Billing Subscription.
  4. Select Edit ✎ beside your payment method.
  5. Update your credit card information.
  6. Make sure the address in QuickBooks is the same as the one on your credit card statement.
  7. When you're done, select Save.

Hello there. Let me ensure you'll get this fix as soon as possible.

First off, I want to ask if you've happened to receive any error messages while trying to update your credit card. If there's any, would you mind telling me what is it? Any additional information will be highly appreciated.

In the meantime, let's perform some troubleshooting steps to fix the issue.

Let's start by logging in to your account using a private or incognito window. There are times the outdated or corrupted site data in the browser causes runtime and unexpected behaviors error in the program. These are the shortcut keys:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

If that works, they'll have to go back to their main browser and then clear the cache and cookies to get rid of the accumulated junk files. Switching to other supported web browsers can be a good alternative, too.

Also, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Online Support Team. They can check and help you with your Billing and subscription which we're unable to do so here in the public forum.
