Bank Error code 103 and 179 recurring quarterly

Every quarter we have this issue that the credit card element of the bank feed (there are 2 which fall under the same account) doesn't work. This relates to a Natwest Business account, and it was set up with QB over 2 years ago.

It is usually just the credit card that fails, the regular business account fails much less commonly (but still encounters issues now and then).

I'm given code 103, even though the sign-in info has never changed, and then when i re-enter the correct info, i am given 179 even if the account has not been accessed for days.

Sometimes it fixes itself after hours of re-attempts over several days, and logging in and out, but who has time for that honestly?

i have tried trying to log in on a different incognito page, and there is nothing changed in the sign-in info. it just goes round in circles citing 103 and then 179.

very frustrating.

Our vat return is due and we will incur a fine if this isn't resolved asap.

Bank Error code 103 and 179 recurring quarterly

Hey there, stellascott.

I appreciate your efforts in trying to resolve the issue. Let's get this sorted out.

Error 103 occurs when credentials entered into QuickBooks Online don’t match with what your financial institution has. The following are the primary reasons why you receive an Error 103:

  • You have entered the wrong credentials while trying to connect to your financial institution for the first time.
  • You have selected the wrong financial institution (there are often many to select from).
  • If you are currently connected and you’ve updated your credentials with your financial institution, you need to update the information in QuickBooks Online.

To better isolate this issue, be sure to enter your username and password directly instead of allowing the browser to auto-fill your login credentials. Please perform the following steps below:

  1. From the left menu, select Banking, and choose Banking.
  2. Locate the card for the account that generated Error 103.
  3. Select the pencil icon.
  4. Select Edit sign-in info.
  5. Enter your new credentials and select Update.

Let me share some information about the error code 179, @bahamabreeze.

The error 179 occurs when the system detects that you're already logged in to your bank's website or someone accessed your account elsewhere. This prevents you to download bank transactions.

I can help you fix this error by following these steps below:

  1. Sign out from your bank's website. Perhaps someone else signed in using the same sign-in information.
  2. If you aren't currently signed by yourself. Ask that person to sign out.
  3. Go back to QuickBooks and sign in again.

In case you're getting this error, I recommend reaching out to our customer specialist for further assistance. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help icon and select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Select Contact Us.
  3. Give a brief description of your issue, then select Continue.
  4. We’ll provide you a few support options. Select which one is best for you.

Thanks for following this thread, Dianne11.

I appreciate for letting us know that your company file is not connected online. This will guide us on how to move past the error.

Error 179 indicates that someone tries to log into the bank’s site on your computer. When this happens, your Financial Institution prevents you from downloading transactions. To fix this issue, I still recommend following the solution shared by @ReymondO.

If you get the same result, let’s clear your browsing history to remove stored data. This process will enhance the browser’s performance and resolve unexpected behavior when using QuickBooks.

Here’s an article that contains a link on how to perform the steps. Troubleshooting browser problems. Go directly to the Troubleshooting browser problems section and select Clear your browser's cache.

Once done, log in to your bank’s website again to use QuickBooks. Please know the solution applies to the online and desktop versions.

I’m adding some links below for additional resources. These articles outline the complete steps on how to troubleshoot bank feeds errors in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) and QuickBooks Online (QBO).
