Can't manually import .qbo bank transactions file

I'm trying to maintain my business's account balance and transaction history in quickbooks by manually importing the .qbo file. I successfully imported my transactions as a .qbo file from bank of america a few months ago. So when I go to "Downloaded Transactions", I see them all, and the account dropdown at the top says "Bank of America". Great...

But now I'm trying to update these transactions by importing another .qbo file containing all transactions since the last import. I click "import file" and select the file. Then it asks me to select which account to import into.

The problem is the "Store in the quickbooks account" dropdown is empty. The only option in the dropdown is "new...". There should be an option to select the existing bank of america account which I've already imported transactions into.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem?

Something has changed in the file and QB no longer associates it with your account. From your chart of accounts right click (control+click) on the account in question, select edit account, from the online settings tab select not enabled. From online banking your account will now show in the list.

Thanks, that really helped. What happened when I selected not enabled was all of my bank transactions disappeared. Not good, but I just reimported all the qbo files again and it started working again.

Can't manually import .qbo bank transactions file

I realized I was looking in the wrong place - reset up my company with my bank account, but it is still not working. I still get the error message that I got when I had not upgraded to Quickbooks 2014...(contact your financial institution)

The original answer was not incorrect, just not the best answer. There is no need to disable the account from online access. Here is the secret way to get these transactions into Quickbooks (on Windows or Mac).
Just be sure you are bringing the downloaded transactions into the correct account. I find this issue usually occurs with credit card downloads - as in credit card accounts that have more than one credit card (eg, one master and several sub accounts) associated with them.
Here we go. First download the QBO and save the file, say, on your desktop. Right click on the file and select Open With, then choose Notepad. (on a Mac use TextEdit). Now, look thru the info listed (starting from the top) and look for <ACCTID>. It will list an account number after this. You will notice that this account # differs from what is in QB. That is what is causing the problem. In QB, from your chart of accounts right click (control+click) on the account in question, select edit account. Copy down the account number listed here. Now, type it in Notepad, after <ACCTID>, replacing what was there. Voila!! Done!. Save the file. It should save as a QBO file. Double click on the file and the transaction will flow into QB seamlessly...  Matt (former online tech support for Intuit)

Can't manually import .qbo bank transactions file

This trick is such a lifesaver. However, with Capital One, I am only able to download 90 days of transactions at a time so I need to download and import multiple files to get caught up. I was just successfully able to download the first file but am unable to download the subsequent files even though I changed the account number. Any suggestions? So weird.

Can't manually import .qbo bank transactions file

Hi Matt. I know this is an old thread but i'm just starting with QB and am having the same problem. But when I go into 'edit account' the number already matches the ACCTID number in the text file. I'm on a Mac. Any thoughts on what to do in this case? Thank you.

Hi rhollander and brian, I have the same situation with the ACCTID already matching the account number in the qbo file. Did you ever get an answer on what to do in this case?

I was also having the same issue, on a mac, QB 2013 and the solution by Timthetoolman2011 on the following link worked for me. <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://community.intuit.com/questions/708963-nothing-imported-this-account-is-up-to-date-help">http...>

Craig, I'm just now going to try the solution Intuit customer service gave me: <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/articles/HOW25058">http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com...>

And I will take a look at clanreed's link

So, I've gone through the how to link the Intuit customer support person gave me - found no help in it whatsoever; to be fair, perhaps I simply am not seeing the part which tells you how to get everything straightened out so the import feature will work.

Looked at clanreed's link, and that appears to be solutions which used to work for versions of quickbooks earlier than mine. (I have previously tried some of these, like the one matt listed above, but my account numbers already matched, and anytime I attempted to use a "not enabled" trick, once I re-enabled direct connect it wiped out everything I had done and simply started over downloading the available direct connect transactions with the 90 day limit of my bank, which meant everything I had downloaded before that was gone, setting me back even further.)

Also, when I was on the phone with the customer support person (back in Dec), and he was trying to give me a lengthy walkthrough (for which I did not have time, then he sent me the link which I have not found useful), he had said that I needed to label all of the transactions which had been downloaded, and then the import function would work. It did not.

[edit] Removed an unnecessary part of this message, as I was angry at the time. Just came back from the accountant's office, and it turns out I have been using QB incorrectly, so if I had been entering everything correctly the import function might have worked after getting the downloaded transactions properly entered into the register. Since I have to start over, perhaps I will learn something worth sharing along the way.

This was a great answer, one that gave me loads of hope. Unfortunately, the <ACCTID> in the QBO file and the account number listed for the bank account in Account Edit match. So this won't work for me.

Having the same problem with QB2016.  Since no one's answered in years, and my situation's a little different, I'm going to start a new thread.

Can't manually import .qbo bank transactions file

I'm having the same problem with QB2016 for Mac.  The ACCTID is the same as my actual account.  The problem "might" be that when I look at the Online Settings, the account number for my card is somehow no longer the correct number.  But there is no option to edit that.  So, the account numbers in Edit Account and Online Settings don't match.  It seems like a mistake to edit the account to be this incorrect account number, but I suppose I could do that.  How did that Online Setting account number change to a random, incorrect number?  All my other accounts import properly.

The way Account Numbers are used will vary by the financial institution. For instance, you have a checking account # and Routing # info, but if you sign up for ACH or direct deposit, they might have you use a different Routing Number for that type of electronic activity. And "online account" might be a Web Access Rights # for the username you log in with, as in my case, and then it pulls info from that one bank for Two Connected Accounts. And the Financial institution's Website log in you use on their site might be a different log in name and password than you are suppose to use for inter-connected tools like using QB. For instance, the website log in perhaps uses "trusteer" and Server Connections do not.

Have you asked your card provider or financial institution how they use these codes and which you should be setting up for this connectivity, or searched their support articles?
