Hello Experts, When I enable 2 factor auth on our PayPal and bank feeds then Quickbooks no longer automatically imports them and it breaks the bank feed automation.

Is there anyway to have 2 factor auth in Paypal and bank account without breaking Quickbooks? Quickbooks on PayPal will sit there and ask me to login and enter 2 factor auth code about 4 times before it will actually connect and pull in the transactions. Can’t they connect via an api or something more reliable?

Hello Experts, When I enable 2 factor auth on our PayPal and bank feeds then Quickbooks no longer automatically imports them and it breaks the bank feed automation.

Welcome to the Community forum, @sales208.

The 2-Factor Authentication with your online banking is an additional level of protection to reduce fraud. These two factors give you also stronger account security.

If I may ask, what type of connection did you use when syncing PayPal to QuickBooks? Is it Connect to PayPal or Sync with PayPal?

When using the Connect to PayPal app, it helps handle transactions the same way as other bank transactions which you can easily edit, categorize, and match transactions in QuickBooks once connected.

If you're using the Sync with PayPal app, the main features are the following:

  • Review your PayPal transactions before they hit your books.
  • View the gross and net for each sale. When the app syncs it will bring in both the income and associated fee. These will be linked together in a Deposit.
  • For sales, you can record transactions as sales receipts or deposits.
  • For expenses that aren't fees, you can take categorize each transaction to your preference.

To know more about these processes, see below articles:

I'm looking forward to hearing back from you. I want to ensure this is taken cared of. Have a nice day.

Thank you. I believe it is PayPal bank feeds. I believe the other ones had lots of problems in my records when I tried them a long time ago. Do any of the sync methods access paypal via the api or do they all do manual user name password to trigger the 2 factor auth and thus break the autosyncing?

Hello Experts, When I enable 2 factor auth on our PayPal and bank feeds then Quickbooks no longer automatically imports them and it breaks the bank feed automation.

We can perform a manual update, sales208.

We can refresh the connection of your PayPal bank feeds in QuickBooks Online. Let me show you how:

  1. Go to the Transactions or Banking menu.
  2. Select Banking and click the PayPal bank account.
  3. At the upper-right, click Update

Wait for the update to complete and look into the For Review tab if transactions are now downloading. You can also use the Filter option to specify the transactions to display.

Hello Experts, When I enable 2 factor auth on our PayPal and bank feeds then Quickbooks no longer automatically imports them and it breaks the bank feed automation.

Yeah that works fine if PayPal doesn't have 2 factor auth on but when it has 2 factor auth on it doesn't work but says more info needed. I go through the process and it asks for 2 factor auth code. I give it to it, it thinks for a long time and then starts over without pulling data. I usually have to enter user name and password and then 2FA code about 4 times before it will pull in the data manually.

I have the same issue. Did you figure this out? Do you need to keep the 2 step verification off for the bookkeepers to sync?

It's nice to have you as part of the conversation, @pierre-fiddlersh.

I'd like to share some insights in handling 2FA  to turn around this experience.

Two-step verification is a feature in QuickBooks Online that requires you to confirm that you're the one who's accessing your account. This also help us strengthen the security of your QBO account.

I know the importance of having accurate records of transactions. Furthermore, keeping 2 factor authentication off will still not allow you to download transactions, especially for Financial Institute connections.

For more details about 2FA, you can refer to this link.

You can check these resources about reconciling an account in QBO. This will guide and assist you in the future.

I’ll pop right back in to assist further if you have more concerns about the 2 factor authentication. Take care.

I have the same issue. Live feeds only work when two factor auth in Paypal is turned off.

Any help would be appreciated

Hi jeremy!

Thanks for joining this thread. Let me assist you with the security feature related to banking.

Please note that every financial institution has its own security setting to protect against unauthorized activities on your account. QuickBooks Online doesn't have control over this.

I suggest you reach out to PayPal and see if they have an option to turn off the two-factor authentication only for QuickBooks Online banking purposes.

I added this link if you need detailed steps on how to review and categorize the downloaded transactions: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online. This also has a link on how to reconcile the accounts.

I'd like to offer help again if you have questions regarding your bank transactions. I'll also cover other areas in QuickBooks if you run into any difficulties while working on it.
