My accountant and I are both puzzled. I have QBO and had mostly finished a prior years reconciliation, when for some reason, I go to recon my main company checking account and the starting balance is off by $800K and is shows no prior reconciliations. The register does show transactions with an R, but the balance is wrong and QB tech support has no answer. Any help would be appreciated.
Let's run a report to check your previous reconciliation, realst88.
QuickBooks Online automatically generates a reconciliation report every time you reconcile an account. To view it, here are the steps you can follow:
On the other hand, once the balance is off, these are the cause:
You can also use the Audit log feature to check if someone made changes to your account.

Let me know if you need additional information by commenting below. I'll be around until you're able to fix the reconciled account.
When I pull the reconcilliation report for my main checking account covering all dates, I get absolutely nothing. I have transactions going back to 2006 so there should have been something. The same is also true for the rest of my 8 or so bank accounts. The only account so far that shows a reconciliation is a credit card account.
Thanks for keeping us updated with the results, realst88.
I'd like to verify if you have previously migrated to QuickBooks Online (QBO)? If yes, that could be why it's missing, as you need to reconcile it again. If no, let's use the Audit Log tool to verify who made changes to your account. An accountant user might undo the reconciliation or change the status of your reconciled transactions.
To view the Audit Log, here's how:
If the transactions were deleted, there would be a need to re-enter those transactions manually and reconcile it again.

Hello,
I am having this same issue. However when I go to my audit log, there is also nothing.
I completed all my reconciliations last year to close out my taxes, but none are showing up. I have Quickbooks Online, so no update is necessary.
Can you help?
Thanks,
This also happened to me today. The only thing that changed is that I updated with the latest version of Quickbooks desktop. Can I uninstall the update?
Hey there, JLPlante.
Thanks for joining this thread. I'd be glad to lend a hand so you're able to view previous reconciliations in your QuickBooks Desktop account.
As an initial troubleshooting step, I recommend running a reconciliation report and verifying there aren't any filters preventing the full view of the data. Here's how:
1. Go to the Reports menu, then select Reports Center.
2. Search and open a Previous Reconciliation report.
3. Select the account you reconciled, then either Detail, Summary, or Both.
The following linked article provides additional info about reconciling an account in QuickBooks Desktop.
If you find there aren't any filters in place and you still aren't able to view your previous reconciliations, you may need to reach out to a member of the Desktop Support Team. Agents have the ability to share your screen and take a closer look to determine what's causing this issue. This link gives the steps to get in touch with the team: Contact the QuickBooks Desktop Customer Support Team
Please don't hesitate to reach back out if you have any other questions or concerns. I'll be here to help in any way that I can.
I'm having the same problem!
Same problem as the others. Reconciliation data gone
did you ever get any resolution to this? I am pulling my hair out trying to get my reconciliations back!!!
Did you get any resolution for this?? I am ready to scream,
Thanks
I wish you didn't have to experience all that, kim3461.
Not to worry, I'm determined to help you find the missing reconciliation.
Have you tried generating the Reconciliation report and using the Audit log feature? If so, I'd recommend accessing your account via the private window. This is a good place to determine if this is a browser-related issue.
Here are the keyboard shortcuts:
Once logged in, check your reconciliation data. If it works, let's clear the browser's cache. This removes its stored cache to ensure the program performs efficiently.
You can also use other supported browsers. They'll provide the best and most secure experience with QuickBooks.
If none of these fixes the problem, I'd suggest contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. They're equipped with tools to check the cause. It'll also allow them to submit a ticket to our engineering team to alert them about the issue if necessary.
Additionally, here are some articles that you can read to help speed up the review process of categorizing your bank transactions:
I'd appreciate it if you'll get back on this thread to let us know if you have additional questions. It's always my priority to make sure you can locate the transactions.
Thank you for the suggestions. I'm using Quickbooks Desktop 2021.
I too, did my taxes, and I routinely make sure everything is reconciled every year. Now, all of my reconciliations are gone. Possibly as a result of a recent update (like another poster mentioned).
Sharing the product you're using is a great help, AnnieG.
I'm here to provide some troubleshooting steps to get this resolved.
There might be an issue with your company file's data that's causing the reconciled transactions to disappear. I'd recommend running the Verify and Rebuild utility. The tool scan data issues within the company file and self-resolves them.
Beforehand, make sure your QuickBooks Desktop is up-to-date. This way, you always have its latest features and fixes.
Follow the steps below on how to verify data:
Next, here's how to rebuild data:
If the issue persists, I encourage contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. They're equipped with tools to investigate its cause.
Additionally, I've added an article that'll help you make sure your QuickBooks accounts match your real-life bank and credit card statements: Reconcile Workflow.
Please let us know if you have additional questions or concerns about locating your transactions. We're determined to help you find the reconciled data.
Thanks anyway. Verify found no errors. Any other suggestions?
Nope! I'm waiting for the inevitable see all red frustration when they tell me to look for an old backup, particularly if I don't have one pre- the time the reconciliations were lost. This has to be from a recent update.
I understand the importance of this issue to be fixed as soon as possible, @jAnnieG. I'm here to help you.
Since the basic troubleshooting process provided above doesn't work. We can check this option in QuickBooks Desktop, which is the Hide transactions after the statement’s end date. It is an option on the reconciliation report screen to hide uncleared transactions dated after the statement’s end date.
Here's how to do this:
For more insights on how you can review your past reconciliations, you can refer to this article: Get reports for previous reconciliations in QuickBooks Desktop.
If the issue persists, I'd suggest reaching out to our Support team. They have the tools to look into your account, or you can request a screen-sharing session with them. That way, they can investigate further with the issue and guide you through the resolution process. I'll show you how.

There are no prior reconciliation reports. This is the problem.
I'm 20 minutes into chat with support and they've asked me if I have my bank statements. That's the new Quickbooks solution. Wow, Quickbooks really has gone down the tubes. I've been with this product since 2000 and I've upgraded every couple of years, so I can keep the updates, and this is what I've got. What a disappointment.
And, from phone to tech support, I've just learned that Quickbooks 2021 Desktop Pro support is now over. So the only way through the problem is to give them more money!
Something fundamental to the basic premise of the program - stable database of accurate accounting data - is gone. It's obviously time to look for a different product.
After having to rebuild 2 years of reconciliations on multiple checking accounts, I urged my bookkeeper to find an outside vendor to safeguard my and the rest of her clients info. I believe the company is called Rewind.Com. I just feel better having it after the last incident with QB.
I undid reconciled accounts and wanted to start reconciling again. When I go to reconcile it has a beginning amount that is not correct and there is not any activity in the reconcile for dates I put in. They are in the checking account register and do not show reconciled. How can I start this all over. It is the first reconcilation of this account. Can I start it all over? Thank you
I'm determined to help you reconcile your account, Mlindquist.
Yes, we can start over. Beginning balance issues are sometimes caused by adding an incorrect opening amount when you create your file. I've got the steps to fix this.
Let's start by double-checking the account's opening balance. Sometimes, this doesn't include transactions that were still pending when you created the account.
Then, let's compare the opening balance with your real-life account:
If the balances match, you entered the info correctly. Otherwise, we'll have to add the correct amount:
After that, I'd recommend reviewing your account register. You can follow Step 3 in this article: Fix Issues the First Time you Reconcile an Account.
Once done, you can now start reconciling your account.
Please let us know if you have additional questions or concerns about the troubleshooting steps. We want to make sure this gets resolved.
Has there been any resolution on the missing Reconciliation issue? I have tried rebuilding the data, but that didn't work. I even tried to run the Previous Reconciliation Report but all options are grayed out and preventing me from clicking on the Display button. I too had complete closing out my taxes from last year and performed reconciliations.
Thanks for joining the thread, @X-Men Surge. I'll help you get through this so you can proceed to finish reconciling in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
Since you've already tried the Verify and Rebuild feature and the issue persists, I'd recommend utilizing the QuickBooks Tools Hub. This type of tool helps you fix possible problems and errors within your QuickBooks Desktop file. I'll input the steps below. To begin, here's how:
In case you can't find the icon for the app, you can do a search in Windows and then click the app.
For further guidelines, please see this article: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.
In addition, here's an article about backing up a QBDT file to ensure you have a copy of your company file in case you encounter errors: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
I'd also recommend checking this article about how you can modify a report and add other details to it: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.
I'm determined to help you get this sorted out, @X-Men Surge. Don't hesitate to leave a comment down below if you have any follow up questions. I'll make sure to get back to you again. Take care!
Having the exact same issue. QBO and only the last month bank reconciliation is available but I know we have reconciled each month starting around 2018! I need to reprint 2020 reconciliations and it will only show the last month reconciled, even when choosing "all dates"!
