Apple Card connect?

I'm glad to offer my assistance with connecting your Apple card. At this time, the connection between QuickBooks Self-Employed and Apple card is not available. However, you can import your transactions using a CSV (comma-separated values) file.

Here's how:

1. Press the Gear icon in the upper right corner.

2. Choose Imports.

3. Select the import transactions link in the middle of the screen.

4. Browse the CSV file on your computer.

5. Click Import.

Now you can successfully import your transactions. Below is an additional link that can help you categorize those transactions:

But where do you get the CSV file? If you can't download the transactions then how can you get that?

I understand that the Apple Card only downloads PDF statements. You can use a conversion tool to help you convert PDF into a CSV file. There are websites that offer a free conversion tool in Google. 

Additionally, please note that you can only use either a 3-column or 4-column format. Check out our sample CSV template format in this article: Import bank transactions using Excel CSV files.

Then, follow the steps above provided by my peer @Candice C to import it in QB Self-employed.

I'm new to QBSE, and just discovered that Apple Card now exports .csv files, but when I follow your steps for importing, I see no "Import transactions" link on my Import page, only a list of my account names with their own "import older transaction" links.

The issue seems to be there is no way to manually tell QBSE about the Apple Card account so I can manually import the transactions.

You can use the Cash account when importing your Apple Card transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE). This way, it'll be recorded under the default (Cash) account in QBSE.

Here's how:

1. Click the Gear icon, then select Imports.
2. Select the Cash Account from the list, then click Import older transactions.
3. Tick the Browse button, then open the CSV file for your Apple Card transactions.
4. Follow the on-screen instruction to complete the importing.
5. Click Import.

Thanks so much @Mark_R. I'm really having a rocky onboarding with QB. Thanks for the tip on using the Cash account to "Hold" my Apple Card transactions. Are there any downfalls with this approach? I'm going to immediately stop using the AC as my business card so I can escape the BS of it not importing to financial software.

Well, I signed up for a new CBO account and that lasted for 15 minutes. I had ZERO idea what was happening there, and it had no Personal accounts, but QBSE does? I canceled it already.

I'm gonna give your Cash account approach in QBSE a try, but overall, this last 36 hours of Quickbooks has been some of the most frustrating time spent on the computer in the 25 years I've been a "computer person," so maybe QB is simply not for me.

QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) is a cash-based system. When importing transactions, if you don't have a connected bank account, then the default account, is the Cash account since right now, adding bank accounts manually isn't an option. 

Need not worry, cash account doesn't mean that you can only record actual cash transactions. You can also import your actual self-employed related bank transactions like what you do. 

Additionally, once your transactions are imported, make sure to categorize it to the correct account as this will be the basis in tracking your business-related transactions (income and spending).

Thanks for the links @MirriamM , much appreciated. I did have one thing I wanted to ask about - I have tags active and I have added some, but there is literally no way to make these tag groups that the help pages advocate for.

Are tag groups not supported in QBSE? Because I've been over and over the support/community docs about how to create tag groups, but my version of the app doesn't have those tabs/links as described in the help docs.

Ok I imported my Apple Card transactions into the Cash account, but they all imported as Income, not as expenditures...??? So now what do I do?

Chiming in so I can share more details on how to handle bank transactions, steveisaacs.

Though, we can create tags in QBSE, we can only set up single tags. I'll share this idea to our developers to have an option in creating a tag groups.

With regards to the Apple Card transactions, we'll have to review the CSV file. Please note that the transactions showing on your account depends on what is in the file. Open the CSV file and let's add a negative sign (-) to all expense transactions. Then, upload it again.

We can also delete the first file you imported so we can avoid duplicates.

1. Go to the Gear icon and select Imports.
2. From the Cash account, click the Import older transactions link.
3. Locate the CSV file that was wrong and click the delete/trash bin icon.
4. Select Delete to confirm.

Once done, follow the same steps shared by my colleagues on how to re-import it. Aside from that, make sure that we properly categorize the transactions so it'll post to the correct categories.

I have a guide here about importing bank transactions using Excel CSV files. This article will show you what's the correct format for CSV files. Heads up, this guide is for QuickBooks Online, but QBSE use the same format.
