Bank of America - New connection

QuickBooks told me I needed to update bank feed connection to Bank of America.  Now that I have done that I can no longer transfer funds between accounts at Bank of America via QuickBooks.  I can enter the transfer and check the box "Online Funds Transfer", however, the transfer does not show in Bank Feeds. When I shut down QB I get a message telling me I have Unsent Online Transfers, however, when I click on "Send Now" the Bank Feeds window appears but still no way to send the transfer. The transfer does not connect to the bank when I download transactions.  Support has been no help.  I am using Enterprise 22.

Thanks for reaching out to us, MM1417.

I'll make sure to help get rid of the message prompt so you can continue working seamlessly in QuickBooks Desktop.

We can run the Verify and Rebuild data utility. The tool scan data issues within the company file and resolves them.

Follow these steps on how to verify data:

  1. On the top menu, click File.
  2. Choose Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Data.
  4. Click OK when QuickBooks detects no problem with your data.
  5. If Verify finds an issue with your data, choose Rebuild Now or View Errors.
  6. Click Close or View Errors and take note of the specific error message.

Then, here's how to rebuild data:

  1. On the top menu, click File.
  2. Choose Utilities.
  3. Select Rebuild Data.
  4. Click OK if you receive a prompt to back up your company file.
  5. Choose OK and proceed to the next step.
  6. Run Rebuild Data again to make sure there's no error.

Bank of America - New connection

Hi there, MM1417.

I appreciate you for performing some steps and for coming back to the thread to add further details about your concern. I'll be sharing another troubleshooting information to ensure you can move funds between two accounts in QuickBooks Desktop.

Since the issue persists, I recommend disconnecting your online banking or your Bank of America in QBTD and connecting it again. This way, you're able to refresh the connection of your bank transaction so you can start transferring funds from one Bank of America account to another. Before this, you'll have to secure a backup copy of your company file.

Here's how to disconnect:

  1. Go to the Lists menu and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Right-click the account you want to turn off. Then, select Edit Account.
  3. Go to Bank Settings and choose Deactivate all online services. Then, select OK.
  4. Click Save & Close.

If the issue continues to occur, I suggest contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. They have the tools to pull your account to deep investigate the cause of the problem.

Lastly, you may refer to this article to view various OL and OLSU errors and how to fix them: Fix OL and OLSU Bank Feeds errors in QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me know if you have other questions about transferring funds in QBDT. I'm always free to help you whenever you need my assistance. Take care and stay safe always, MM1417.

I am in the same situation.  I changed over to the "Bank of America - New" connection and there is no way to send the online transfers to the bank.  Also using Enterprise 22.  The new connection methodology seems to download transactions just fine, but does not transmit the online transfers to the bank.  Intuit - please fix this.

The alert message I received for the "Bank of America - New" connection mentioned that Bill Pay services would no longer be supported, and that Bill Pay users would need to subscribe to some other service ("Melio" I think?) and connect that to Quickbooks.  I was hoping that "Bill Pay" restriction wouldn't apply to the option to simply send checks to BofA online, because that was a feature I used regularly, but it seems that functionality has been disabled.  Very frustrating.

I see that Bank of America no longer supports bill pay services linked to QuickBooks Desktop, @McLaneDental. I'd like to provide some insights about the process.

The BOA handles the online bill pay when you set up online payment services through them. This indicates that the financial institution chooses its own buffer. I advise getting in touch with them to confirm that Melio is supported for bill payment. If so, here's how Melio processes your payment:

  1. Melio will first withdraw the money from your card or bank account.
  2. Then,  your vendor receives the money amount from Melio's bank for delivery. Melio's bank prints and mails the check when a payment is made via a paper check.

If not, you may browse the App Store for a third-party application that's readily available that you can integrate with QuickBooks to enable online payment services.

See this module to learn more about handling bills: Pay bills online from QuickBooks Desktop. From there, you can also read some of the most commonly asked questions about bill pay in QBDT.

Fill me in if you have other questions regarding this topic or QuickBooks in general. I'm always ready to assist. Keep safe!

I've realized another frustrating aspect of the change.  Previously, I could "Sync All for this Bank" and transactions for all 5 of the accounts would be updated.  Now, it appears that I have to sync each account individually, which takes substantially longer.

I spent almost an hour on the phone with BofA and they weren't able to identify any reason that the Bill Pay feature would have been removed and were ready to refer me back to Quickbooks support.

All in all, this is a feature that has been made substantially worse by this change.

I understand how inconvenient updating bank accounts manually, McLaneDental.

As my colleague shared above, online payments are catered by Bank of America. Thus, the option to update the bank account manually may be part of the new updates.

To ensure the transactions match with your bank statement, you can check this article for more information: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

Keep me posted whenever you have concerns with the categorization process.

I am also having issues with Quickbooks Desktop requiring me to switch to Bank of America's new bank feed connection, "Bank of America -New".  I can't bill pays online through quickbooks anymore.  I followed the directions to use Melio but I don't see any option anymore for Online payments when attempting to "Pay Bills" or "Write Check".   How frustrating.  This functionality seems essential to an accounting program!

Hello, mikelipsky.

For the time being, based on our records, there isn't any reported issue about the new bank feed connection between QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) and Bank of America. I'd suggest reaching out to our QuickBooks Desktop team. They'll be able to check your account in a secure environment to identify the root cause of it.

The following articles provide more info about this feature and include detailed steps to pay your vendors using the Pay Bills and Write Checks window:

Let me know in the comments if you have other banking concerns in QBDT. I'm always around to help.

Thanks for the reply. I followed your link instructions using the pay bills window.  I do not have a Schedule Online Payment option anywhere.  FYI I am using QuickBooks desktop pro 2020.

Hello, mikelipsky.

Allow me to chime in and help you pay bills online in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Currently, you'll need to connect online bill pay first in order for you to have the option to choose to schedule an online payment.

Once done, you can now follow the steps provided by my colleague on how you can pay bills online.

Additionally, I'd suggest reading this article to help you manage your unpaid payments to keep track your the money you owe your vendors in QBDT: Accounts Payable workflows in QuickBooks Desktop.

Please keep me posted in the comments if you have other concerns about Bill Pay. I'm always ready to help. Take care.

Seeing the same issue.  After being forced to update to the Bank of America NEW connection in QuickBooks Desktop Pro, I can no longer send any transactions to the bank (i.e. Online Fund Transfers), I can only download.  This was never a problem when using "Bank of America - All Other States" in Bank Feeds.  This "upgrade" seems to offer a worse experience with removed features.

Bank of America - New connection

Hello there, @BillACE.

Let me share some insights about the Bank of America's new connection in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

With the Bank of America (BOA) - New bank feed connection, sending online transactions to the bank or transfers, like Online Fund Transfers, is discontinued. With this, you'll want to integrate a third-party application, like Melio, to do this process in QBDT. To confirm this, I encourage you to check with BOA or log into their website for updates on their new connection in QBDT.

You can read this article to learn more about paying your bills online from QBDT: Pay bills online from QuickBooks Desktop.

Also, I'd recommend reconciling your accounts in QBDT regularly (every month). This helps monitor your income and expense transactions and detect possible errors accordingly. You may want to check out this article to help you in doing or fixing a reconciliation in QBDT: Reconcile workflow in QuickBooks.

Let me know if you have other banking concerns or questions about managing transactions in QBDT. I'll gladly help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, @BillACE.

This decreased functionality is yet another reason to quit using QuickBooks and find another accounting solution. I cant imagine the thought process that went into making this change, whether it be QuickBooks or the banking industry: Someone is making money on this, somewhere at the expense of the users.

I have spent multiple hours trying to make the Bank of America - NEW feed work and have spent many days with multiple different agents telling me that a Supervisor would be contacting me directly to resolve.

I just got off the phone with a Supervisor and I have been told that BoA is no longer in a relationship with QBDT and that there is nothing I can do.

The only option is to change banks!!!!

This is the 1st time since receiving the Bank Feed change that I was told about this.

I am at a loss of what to do........

Bank of America - New connection

I spent 6+ hours with the Tier One Intuit customer support analysts trying to fix the broken "upload" to BOA feature of QuickBooks Desktop; the one where we used the "Write Checks" "Pay Online" functionality. I finally opened a ticket via Intuit's Office of the President escalation page: https://www.intuit.com/company/contact/office-of-the-president/?cid=executives_intuit_click_us_oop-f...contact_link|_oop The had a senior QB Desktop Support analyst walk me through the fix to the lost "Write Checks" "Pay Online" functionality we've enjoyed for years. This was after I'd called Bank of America and found out that according to them, nothing had changed on their end and that I should call Intuit. I'd already set up an account with Melio.com but couldn't do anything with it to connect to my QB desktop installation. The Melio help person couldn't explain the integration either. And for a while, it looked like Melio only would attach to the QB Accounts Receivable account to pay bills submitted by vendors. Not so. (But you'll never figure the solution out with Intuit Tier One, or Melio Tier one support. Instead of using the "Write Checks" "Pay Online functionality we've all been using for years to create and send payment requests up to the BOA for them to print and mail the hardcopy checks to the vendors, you will have to use the Intuit Vendor portion of the QB application to effect the payment instructions to the Bank of America. To accomplish this, there is a first time set up with Melio.com. Create your account there first. But don' try to connect to QuickBooks from the Melio website. Instead, on the QuickBooks Desktop Home panel, select the "Enter Bills" icon function (under the vendor section) and then enter the data on the "Bill Form", enter the vendor name, and the form will populate with the information contained in the vendor center, just like the "Write Checks" "Pay Online" form did. Note that the form has a "Schedule Online Payment" menu choice near the bottom of the form. Leave it as is, to the "Schedule Online Payment" choice. Save and close the form. Now click on the "Pay Bills" icon within the Vendor portion of the QB home page screen. The "bill" that you just entered in the "Enter Bills" form will appear in the "Pay Bills" form. Click the checkbox to the left of the "bill" listed, to select it. Then click "Pay Selected Bills" button at the bottom right hand corner of the form. The first time you do this, you'll have to go through the process that hooks Melio to your Intuit Desktop app, and to the correct bank account. (by the way, when you create this linkage/integration, you don't have to disable the bank feed you already have to BOA, that you have been using previously to send checks and download bank transactions.) Just step through the entire process presented and at the end, you'll be able to click a button to make that very first payment by having Melio's bank print and mail the check to the vendor. Somewhere in the process, you'll be able to select which source funds to use for the payment and the type. The jury is out on whether attempting to use an ACH payment will cost $1.50 or not. But the printing and mailing of "paper checks" choice is free. After you've created this very first check (Payment) request to Melio, the future payments are less time to create, since the linkages/integration has been set up and the account you want the payments to come from, selected. This "Pay Bills" process is only more steps that the old "Write Checks" "Pay Online" function that sent the check instructions to BOA. If you have trouble effecting the Melio/QB integration, I suggest reaching out to Darwin, the senior Desktop Support analyst who helped me. Intuit has failed to properly prepare their Tier One support analyst to handle this "broken" bank feed case, so only the higher analysts know anything about this. Darwin's email is [email address removed] Yep, Intuit did it again. Upset their users by inadequately preparing their tech support staff for these back end integration changes, (not to mention their failure to explain to the end users, how to perform the integration setup steps themselves. Somebody needs to build a detailed support document that captures with screen grabs, all of the steps necessary. Without it, or without someone like Darwin to explain how to effect the Melio/QB Desktop integration properly, Intuit will have thousands of users like ourselves, up in arms and critical of Intuit as a software company.

Thank you! I followed your instructions and it worked exactly as you described. Sorry you had to spend 6 hours but you helped the rest of us avoid that hell.

One note, the first two checks are free, after that each check cost $1.50. So what was a free service now has a cost. I pay 16 bills every month. I guess I'll have to figure out how to do the ACH's for them.

Bank of America - New connection

Hi, I'm not sure if it helps, but I called Quickbooks support last week and again today and was told that there is a known issue with the Quickbooks bank feeds update that seems to coincidentally correspond with Bank of America changing their link or logon mehtod.  They said that the developers are working on a fix as the software is "not working as intended".  I was told it will possibly be a month before a fix is available.  It was suggested that I run a rebuild data on Quickbooks and/or contact Bank of America for a new link (not sure how that works).

If anyone gets it to work I would love to know how.  I also have new Bank of America global access cards commercial Visa cards that I have not figured out how to relink in Quickbooks.  They downloaded just fine before the update but now I'll probably have to contact their support to figure out how to get them in bank feeds.

Bank of America - New connection

And now, a new problem arises!

I have been using the "Bank of America - New" connection to download transactions for my checking account and credit cards for a few weeks now.

I'm not bothering with Melio; I'm now logging in to Bank of America's site using the Bill Pay feature there.  It's annoying, and frustrating that the functionality is just gone, but it seems like less hassle than the alternative.

I was able to download transactions normally as recently as the day before yesterday.

However, this morning my credit cards still download transactions just fine, but my checking account won't download transactions and produces the following error message:

Looks like we didn't find the right type of account to link.

That sign-in info was correct, but we can only connect certain types of accounts. You can try a different bank. (2106)

It looks like the account balance updated on the Bank Feeds page, though?

I tried deactivating the Bank Feed for the account and reconnecting it, which showed the correct account listed, but it still produces the same error when attempting to download transactions.
