Thanks for taking the time to do the recommended steps provided by my colleague, @Jennie320.
I can imagine the hurdle you’ve been through when trying to import your data into QuickBooks Desktop. I’m here to chime in and assist you with this process to help you sort this out.
As provided by my peer above, if you’re using the QuickBooks Desktop 2019 version or older, what we can do is look for an app for QuickBooks Desktop that allows you to import your bank transactions into QBDT.
Otherwise, you’ll want to consider importing your bank transactions using Web Connect or the QBO format if you’re using the QBDT 2020 or the latest versions. Please ensure that your bank offers Web Connect before proceeding with the steps below.
I’ll guide you on how:
For a detailed step-by-step guide to this process, please see this resource: Import web connect (.QBO) files.
If you encounter issues when importing using the Web Connect feature, you can check this guide that’ll help you along the way: Fix import errors from Web Connect.
Once settled, check out these articles that may come in handy in organizing your bank transactions accurately:
I’m always ready to assist you if you have any other questions or concerns about managing your bank transactions. Tag me in your reply, and I’ll sprint back into action. Have a good one, and keep safe.
DOES NOT WORK. STILL SHOWS SERVICE DISCONTINUED.
DOES NOT WORK. I STILL GET THE DISCONTINUED MESSAGE
Hi WILLRTIFTON,
You may have a QuickBooks Desktop 2019 or older version. It can be the reason why you received the error message.
The service discontinuation means that your access to QuickBooks payroll service, live support, online backup, online banking, ad other services are discontinued.
If you have an earlier version like QuickBooks 2020, 2021, or 22 but still get the error message, I'd recommend reaching out to our phone agents. An agent can tske a look at your file and investigate this further.
You can pin this link for more information about the discontinuation policy: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.
You can always mention my name whenever you have questions logging into your file.
@jefftnar When the class action lawsuit starts on them discontinuing features....put me on it. Taking away something we paid for already is total BS. I don't care what the 1000 page agreement says...this is bad business. As a software guy, I understand upgrading and discontinuing but not turning off features that were paid for. I would change to QBO if they had done this right but Intuit has seen the last of me....unless it is in court. Bye bye
That is a lie. Following these instructions results in the following message.
@subscriptionaccountingisascam
You can use a 3rd party tool with the one time license as a workaround to import the bank statement.
what is that 3rd party software called?
If you'd like to import your bank and credit card transactions directly into your account registers, try our OFX/QFX/QBO to IIF Converter . It will work with OFX, QFX, and QBO files downloaded from financial institutions, open them in Excel in a register-like layout for your review, let you map the payees in the files to your QuickBooks names and ~expense accounts, and then create an IIF file you can import, It works with both current and older versions of QuickBooks. It also features a 30-day fully-functional trial - no payment or registration required to use the trial.
This is a HORRIBLE and DISHONEST move by QB. I have QB2020 which works fine for our needs. Now you are forcing me to upgrade from my software that I purchased and I own to your "web-based" version. My internet connection here in a rural setting is spotty at best. I connect to my bank long enough to download my transactions and then I can work in my software even without internet connectivity. QuickBooks has made their software unusable for me. I should be able to get a refund for the software that I purchased since QB has disabled features that I paid for at the time of purchase. This is a slimy, Microsoft-ish move by QB. I want my software that I purchased to work the same as when I purchased it. QB has no right to change MY software. It is simply another way for QB to screw it customer base by FORCING us to pay a monthly subscription. It is wrong and they should refund the original cost of the software. I am hoping that enough customers migrate from QB to another platform. Way to go QB for acting like Apple and Microsoft and being a dictator to your own customers. My anger is palpable at this moment. Looking for another vendor right now.
Sorry REA_M but your method does not work. QB has truly screwed its own customer base. Why did you change the software that I OWNED OUTRIGHT? It worked fine. You are attempting to force us to enter a monthly subscription service. This is totally dishonest and slimy. Are you trying to be like Microsoft or Apple? What part of "I BOUGHT THE SOFTWARE TO INSTALL ON MY OWN COMPUTER" do you not understand? QB went in the backdoor via a fake upgrade and changed my software to disable banking downloads. I want MY ORIGINAL SOFTWARE back like it was. It worked fine. I know you are trying to dictate that your customers pay you every month but I ALREADY PAID for the software when I purchased the original product. I want that back it worked fine.
@CLC Patty RE: I have QB2020 which works fine for our needs. Now you are forcing me to upgrade from my software that I purchased and I own to your "web-based" version.
You don't have to use the web-based version, QuickBooks Online. I recommend against doing that.
You can continue to use the desktop version. QuickBooks Desktop 2023 is the current desktop version, which you can purchase as before.
Jess, you ALREADY KNOW why we cannot download transactions. It is because QB via a backdoor fake update changed the software we own outright and disabled the banking transaction download feature that was in the original software we purchased. How about a new update to put our software back like it was???????????????????????????
How dishonest of QB. QB went in the backdoor route via a fake update and changed the software that I OWN and PAID FOR. You disabled the banking transaction download feature that was included in the software THAT I PURCHASED AND OWN. You had no right to cripple the software that I purchased via a fake update and make it useless to me. Why should I be FORCED to pay you $21.00 per month for software that I ALREADY purchased and worked fine. QB purposefully went in via an update and BROKE our software. Are you offering to refund customers the amount they paid for the original software that they OWN since you are forcing us to us software on your servers? This is totally dishonest and Microsoft-ish. I am looking for other vendors and hoping that thousands of users are too. QB is the Anheuser-Busch of accounting soctware - totally ignore the wishes of your customer base.
Discontinuation of support is understood. But for QB to go the backdoor route via a fake update to the software and disable features that was bought and paid at the time of purchase is totally dishonest and perhaps illegal. It has nothing to do with the EULA and everything to do with QB attempting to "tax" its users by forcing them into a monthly subscription. What about users like myself who have very spotty internet service in a rural setting? It was totally able to connect without disruption long enough to download my transactions. Now I am being FORCED to connect for the duration of using the software to a QB server online.
Sincerely, one of thousands of indignant users.
Your instructions says "Download your transactions as a QuickBooks Web Connect (.qbo) file". My bank only allows for CSV downloads. What now? Is there a simple way to convert CSV to qbo? QB has totally screwed its own customer base. I hope THOUSANDS of users are looking at other vendors now. Your backdoor fake update went into MY SOFTWARE that worked fine and disabled a feature that worked and that I PAID FOR. I want my software restored to the previous state before you changed it without my permission. You EULA does not include permission to disable features that I paid for in a vain attempt to dictate that we pay a monthly subscription. Totally dishonest move by QB.
@CLC Patty Not sure who you're replying to, but...
RE: It is because QB via a backdoor fake update changed the software we own outright and disabled the banking transaction download feature that was in the original software we purchased.
They've been doing this for 20 version-years or more. I don't like it either, but note you didn't actually purchase the software, but instead you purchases a limited license to use it. This is reflected in the license agreement you (or someone) agreed to when it was installed.
Also note that QuickBooks itself doesn't need to be changed to disable online bank feeds as that can, and is, done on the server QuickBooks uses to download the bank data. Intuit could turn it back on for 2020 at any time, but they won't.
Is there a simple way to convert CSV to qbo?
You can convert data to *.qbo but QBD 2020 will decline to import it. You can use a 3rd party tool to import *.csv into your QBD file. The license is one time.

Totally agree!
Disabling a manual import of QBO file through Bank Feeds is the sleaziest move.
They bullied me into upgrading from 2019 for this exact feature. Now I’m facing the same sh!t in 2023–only this time there’s only SaaS option.
I hope Intuit has a class action lawsuit filed against it. Sign me up!
Also, I love how Intuit team members are repeatedly jumping on these threads and offering the upgrade solution and similar nonsense with here’s how easily you can do it…only if you upgraded. They know full well the frustration lies in the fact that the import feature was frivolously disabled.
Intuit will never get another dime from me. Ever.
Are you using QB Desktop 2023 Pro Plus for single user now?
Yes, I am.
Everything is working fine rn but I’m dreading the impending discontinuation deadline next year. Fell for their hostile upgrade pitch in the last version.
Maybe I can switch off the automatic updates before the disabling update comes through

No, you can't do that. When will your license expire? Contact me in private and we can share another option.
