I closed my old QB account less than a year ago. I'm supposed to be able to get back into the account for 1 year. I can't without paying. Suggestions?

Hello there, pltirone.

When you log in to your account, you'll only have read-only access. However, if you want to use the feature and options again, you'll want to update or enter your billing information. You should be prompted to resubscribe as soon as you sign into the QuickBooks Online company.

Here's how:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Select the gear icon at the upper-right.
  3. Under Your Company, choose Account and Settings
  4. Select Billing & Subscription, then Resubscribe, and enter the updated billing information.
  5. Click Subscribe.

For more details on what happens when you reactivate your account, check out this link: How to resubscribe or reactivate QuickBooks Online.

Keep me posted if there's anything else that you need help with. Take care and have a good one!

My understanding is that I should have read-only access but I can not even get that!  When I open my account, immediately a page downloads over it requiring me to re-subscribe AND PAY in order to go any further.  I can't get read-only access.  My bookkeeper is able to do so! Why can't I?????

Hi, pltirone.

Thank you for reaching back to the Community. QuickBooks will grant you access to read-only for a year before we permanently delete all your data. Let's isolate this case by logging in to your account using a private window to determine if this is something browser unusual behavior.

To start, log into your QuickBooks account using a private browser/incognito. Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl+ Shift + N keys on your keyboard (Google Chrome).
  • Press Ctrl+ Shift + P keys on your keyboard (Firefox or Internet Explorer).
  • Press Control+ Option + P keys on your keyboard (Safari).

Once it works, you can go back to your regular browser and clear the cache so the system can start fresh. You can also do this task on other supported, up-to-date browsers

Nope! I did all - incognito window, cleared cache, tried different browser . . . it continues to pull up my account, load it and then a screen drops over it called "account & settings" requiring me to repurchase the subscription.  It appears I have no other choice.

Thanks for the quick response, @pltirone.

I appreciate you for doing the troubleshooting steps that my colleague outlined above to fix the issue about accessing an account with read-only access.

With this, I'd suggest hitting or clicking the X button when the account and settings appear on your screen. That way, you'll able to access your data.

If the issue persists, I'd recommend communicating with our support using our sample company or direct chat. They have proper tools to check your account and investigate what caused the problem.

Utilizing trial company:

  1. In the sample account, go to the Help menu, and hit Contact Us
  2. Write your concern in the box, then tap Let's talk
  3. Choose either Get a callback or Start a chat
  4. Finish the necessary field and submit the request.

For direct chat:

  1. Go to this link:https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/prechats/offerings/QBO-CHAT/22817/view.
  2. Complete the required data.
  3. Hit Submit.

Please call them within business hours to make sure we cater to your concern immediately.

Before one year of your canceled subscription, you can export the lists, reports, transactions on your hard drive. That way, you still have copies that you can use in the future. For more information, visit this article: Export Data out of QuickBooks Online.

I've added a page about handling subscriptions, company information, transactions, and other relevant matters: Account management

Please let me know how the call goes and if you have follow-up questions. I'm always here for you.
