Trouble linking bank accounts and credit cards to QB Desktop 2021

Hello,

I have been trying to link bank accounts and credit cards to QB Desktop 2021 so that transactions will auto-flow into QB but am having some issues.

It seems that the QB desktop version does not support the auto-download of transactions, you must manually download them from the vendor's website into QB. Is that true?

After looking further, it seems that Wells Fargo and Capital One only support the Web Sync option which only QB Online offers.

I'm not sure what to do in order to get transactions from banks and credit cards to auto-flow into QB, or at a minimum allow me to manually push them to QB.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jordan

Trouble linking bank accounts and credit cards to QB Desktop 2021

Hello there, Jordan.

The way you connect your accounts to QuickBooks Desktop depends on what's available at your bank. We still support the direct connect feature which automatically downloads your Wells Fargo and Capital One account activities such as deposits and payments.

Just ensure you’re using a supported QuickBooks Desktop version. If not, update QuickBooks to the latest release to have up-to-date fixes. Then, you can use this link to connect your bank: Get started with Bank Feeds for QuickBooks Desktop. The article also gives you troubleshooting steps to help fix errors when connecting your account.

Let me know how this works. I'm just around to help. Take care and have a great day!

Were you able to get this working? I'm wondering if CapOne will sync with QB Desktop or if that's only available with QB Online and we're stuck with manual downloads.

Trouble linking bank accounts and credit cards to QB Desktop 2021

Good day, alhilpert.

I'm here to make sure that you can link your bank account to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

You can connect your bank and credit card accounts to online banking through direct connect. In that way, you can easily download your bank transactions. Let me show you how to do that.

  1. From Banking, go to Bank Feeds.
  2. Select Set up Bank Feeds for an account.
  3. In the Enter your Bank’s name field, enter and select your bank.

If your bank is not available, you can manually import your bank transactions

You can check out this link for more details: Get started with Bank Feeds for QuickBooks Desktop.

Feel free to leave a reply below if you have further concerns about connecting your account in QuickBooks. I want to make sure you're taken care of, and I'm here to help you anytime. Stay safe!

Trouble linking bank accounts and credit cards to QB Desktop 2021

AbegailS,

That is not the question asked. I need to know if Capital One, specifically, will directly sync with QB Desktop. (And using a Desktop version newer than 2018 since online banking is no longer supported with 2018.) Not every bank allows this connection... it would be nice if Intuit kept a list of institutions which did so reps don't paste that automatic response and risk sending users down paths of wasted time. Is such a list available?

I know how to set up bank connections with other banks and use bank feeds (and how to retrieve and upload .qbo files from those which don't offer an API solution). After searching Google I was able to confirm that .qbo files for manual upload in Desktop are possible with Capital One. And apparently Capital One allows syncing with QB Online. What I can't determine is if Capital One allows syncing with Desktop.

Asking CapOne directly turned out to be more difficult than I thought and I can't simply test anything to find out. This post is the closest thing I could find that might help - all others I came across which included CapOne and bank feeds involved QB Online. If the OP was able to get their CapOne synced with Desktop that means it's possible and we can make some more decisions on our end. If not, we wouldn't have to waste any time, or money, on things that either won't help or will not get used, and can make different decisions.

Thanks for sharing the detailed info of your concern, @alhilpert. Let me chime in and add some details about syncing Capital One with QuickBooks Desktop.

You can connect Capital One with QuickBooks Desktop. In doing so, make sure to use a supported version of QuickBooks to make use of the banking features.

Also, the list of all institutions that can be linked with QuickBooks Desktop is unavailable. Alternatively, you can check with your bank if the option to connect with QuickBooks is available.

To sync Capital One through direct connect in QuickBooks, you can follow the steps provided by my colleague above or you can review this article: Set up bank accounts for Bank Feeds in QuickBooks Desktop.

After correlating your bank with QuickBooks, you can start adding and matching Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

Don't hesitate to get back to this thread if you have other banking concerns with QuickBooks. I'll be around to help you more.

Stay safe always.

Trouble linking bank accounts and credit cards to QB Desktop 2021

Good morning, I am also having issues with Capital one and the connection. I was able to get it to connect after about 2 weeks of trying. I had to 1) Be in the QBD Admin Account 2) Log into the Intuit account for the owner of that QB account 3) use the Capital One - New Bank institution from the connection list (or something like that) to get it to connect. Hopefully this will help you.

QB please tell me what admin is the one that actually does the manual work. Why did the permissions of who can add credit card connections and download transactions get changed?

I now have bigger issues as we have 2 capital one accounts. I mapped them to go to each of their respective GLs, and upon testing the connection (on the admin's computer) It pulled both account transactions into the account that I updated first. Beings that I have to be in that same QBD Admin account and logged into that same Intuit account, I have not been able to get it correct since they that person has to work each day as well.

Please make it easier for people to get their work done on the daily, spending hours in help documents and Q&A to accomplish what used to be a simple tasks, creates large amounts of frustration for your product.

Thanks,

JP

Hello JP!

You can customize the access rights in QuickBooks Desktop. Allow me to help you.

We need to make sure that you were given access to the banking so you can link credit cards and bank accounts. You'll want to reach out to the primary admin so they can edit your role. Let them follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Company menu, select Users, then select Users and Roles.
  2. From the Role List tab, select the role assign to you and click Edit.
  3. In the Area and Activities section, add the Banking and make sure to include the Bank Feeds.
  4. Select OK to save.

Once done, you'll want to close and relaunch your QuickBooks Desktop for the changes to take effect. I've added some articles you can check to help you in setting up additional users:

Also, here's an article for other banking concerns: Get started with Bank Feeds for QuickBooks Desktop.

Keep on posting here if you have additional questions. Take care!

Trouble linking bank accounts and credit cards to QB Desktop 2021

Hello there, @bwill808. I want to ensure you'll be able to link your bank and credit card accounts to QuickBooks.

Before proceeding to the troubleshooting steps, may I know the QuickBooks version you're using? Any additional information is a great help so I can provide a timely solution.

If you're using QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) and you can't see the Bank Feeds option, I'd recommend running the verify and rebuild utility. This determines and self-resolves most commonly data issues within your company file. Let me guide you how:

  1. Click the Window tab and select Close All.
  2. Next, go to the File menu and select Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Data.
  4. If you see the message "Your data has lost integrity". Let's proceed in rebuilding your file.
  5. Go back to the File menu and choose Utilities.
  6. Select Rebuild Data.
  7. You'll receive a warning message to backup your company file, click OK.
  8. As soon as the backup is finished, the rebuild will start.
  9. Click OK when you get the message "Rebuild has completed".

Once done, close and re-open your QBDT program. Then, navigate to the Banking menu at the upper right part and choose Bank Feeds. You can also check this article for guidance in linking your bank account in QBDT: Set up bank accounts for Bank Feeds in QuickBooks Desktop.

However, if you're using QuickBooks Online (QBO), the Bank Feeds option is unavailable. You'll just see the Banking or Transactions menu at the left pane. From there, you can connect or link your bank or credit card accounts to the program.

Reviewing your accounts to ensure that your real-life bank and QuickBooks balances are in sync is a breeze. This can be done by performing the reconciliation process. Once finished, you can also pull up a reconciliation report that you can save to serve as a reference to avoid reconciliation issues in the future.

Stay in touch if you have any other banking concerns. Don't hesitate to post again here. I'm just a few clicks away to help. Have a good one.

Trouble linking bank accounts and credit cards to QB Desktop 2021

I am being told by Chase that this is an issue that Quickbooks changed.  Why?  Also, there are many small businesses that have multiple credit cards on a single account and it was always simple to download all of the transactions, assign an expense account, records the payment from the appropriate account and proceed.  I've called technical support 7 times, I've been hung up on 2-3 and no one seems to have the answer.  There was a rooster c*ck a doodle dooing on my last support call for 1hr and 17 minutes, I was more familiar with QB than the support specialist and then they scheduled a call for 10:00AM EST time this morning and of course never called.  This is getting to the point where I will simply after 15+ years of using QB's for multiple small businesses move on.  QUICKBOOKS PLEASE LOOK INTO RESOLVING THIS.  Yes, C*ck a doodle dooing in the background. Can't imagine that's a call center but what the hell do I know anymore.

This isn't the experience we want you to have, Eighty Seven.

I understand the importance of connecting your Chase account to bring all your transactions to QuickBooks. Following a recent connection change from Chase to QuickBooks, several users have experienced a problem connecting their accounts. I'm here to help you connect your Chase account.

QuickBooks lets you link your bank or credit card account to download your financial transaction automatically. Before we proceed, please ensure you've enrolled in the Chase Direct Connect service. Then, you can follow these steps to link your Chase account.

Here's how:

  1. Log in to Chase Online with your credentials.
  2. Click on the Customer Center tab, then Reference Center.
  3. Press the link to Activate Money, Quickenetc.,
  4. Choose Active Direct Access through the PFM Service, then click the Continue button.
  5. Open QuickBooks Desktop, then go to the Banking menu.
  6. Select Bank Feeds, then Set Up Bank Feeds for an Account.
  7. Type in Chase, then select it from the financial institution dropdown and hit Continue.
  8. Choose the Direct Connect option, then checkmark the box saying Yes, my account has been activated for QuickBooks Online Services. After that press Continue.
  9. Enter your login credential when prompted, then select Connect.
  10. Choose the bank account you want to connect to your account in QuickBooks., then hit Finish.

If you don't want to use the Direct Connect Service from Chase, you'll have the option to manually import your transactions. I'll show you how.

  1. Log in to your bank website and find the statement or transaction you want to bring into QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Download .QBO file of your transactions and save it on your computer.
  3. Open the file and import them into QuickBooks.

Once done, you can start to review and match transactions in QuickBooks Desktop. Check out this article for a complete guide: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

I'll keep an eye on your response, please don't hesitate to add any details below if you need further assistance connecting your Chase account. Stay safe and have a great day.

I have followed all the required steps and am at the “Find your bank” screen. I have chosen my credit card (American Express) and the screen is spinning in “Please wait.”
