How do I resend a 1099 invitation if the contractor cannot view it because it expired?

It's super easy to resend another invitation to the contractor, zach26.

Let me walk you through how to send the link again within QuickBooks Online. Though, you'll need to take note that the invitation you sent to your contractor expires after 24 hours.

To resend invitation:

  1. Click Worker/Payroll and then choose Contractors.
  2. Select contractor's name to resend the 1099 Form.
  3. Press on the hyperlinked Send a reminder beside the contractor's name.

Once done, confirm with your contractor if she/he able to receive 1099 invites again.

To learn more about inviting a contractor in QuickBooks Online, please check out this article: Invite a contractor to add their own 1099 tax info.

Drop me a comment below if you have any other questions. I'll be happy to help you some more. Stay safe!

How do I resend a 1099 invitation if the contractor cannot view it because it expired?

Hello,

The problem I am having is the invitation expired for the contractor and the resend is not available.

How do we resend the invite?  How does the contractor get their W-9 in the system?  If I select Add a Contractor button again, will it create a duplicate?  It doesn't look like I can delete the one in Accountant or Business view.

How do I resend a 1099 invitation if the contractor cannot view it because it expired?

I can help you resend the invite to your contractors, @LighthouseLadder.

The resend email invite will only show if you haven't entered any personal information about the contractor. You can click the Waiting for info link and then complete the details as needed.

q125.PNG

After that, check if you're now able to see the Send a reminder or Send email link.

If it doesn't work, this is likely a browser-related issue due to the piled-up cache. You can use a private browser (incognito) when accessing your receipts. This session disables cache and cookies that can cause weird QuickBooks responses.

Here are the shortcut keys you can use to access one:

  • Ctrl+ Shift + N for Google Chrome q6.PNG.
  • Ctrl + Shift + P for Mozilla Firefox q7.PNG and Microsoft Edge q8.PNG.
  • Command + Shift + N for Safari q9.PNG.

Then, please log in to QuickBooks as a Master or Company Admin and check if there's a resend invite link already. After that, have your contractors fill out the form. This way, you'll see the W-9 info in the system.

If it works fine this time, I suggest clearing your regular browser's cache to remove the corrupted web files.

If the issue persists, I recommend using another supported web engine or utilize the browser health checkup tool to see if your browser is compatible. Otherwise, you can use a different device to see if you'll get the same outcome.

Also, yes, entering a new contractor with the same name and details can create duplicates. You can inactivate the contractor by selecting the Make as inactive option from the drop-down (see screenshot).

q126.PNG

After fixing the said issue, you can go to the Documents tab in the contractor's profile to review their W-9 information.

Drop me a comment if you have more questions about managing your contractors in QuickBooks. I'm always here to help.

How do I resend a 1099 invitation if the contractor cannot view it because it expired?

To clarify You must already have direct deposit banking fully setup to successfully complete adding direct pay contractors.

Also you must send invite from desktop, not mobile browser. If the invite needs to be resent due to an expired invite, go to your venders list and delete all info for that contractor and then re-initiate the contractor invite from payoll/contractors.

How do I resend a 1099 invitation if the contractor cannot view it because it expired?

I did all those things using QB online, and did not have the option to resend after the link expired. As for QB adviser no help not even help with deleting the contractor. This simple problem needs to be addressed ASAP.

Unprofessional, especially when clients don't feel safe sending personal info via email or over the phone. This link was sent at 930am it expired at 1230 and no option to resend or send reminder?? Not happy, and 2 advisers couldn't figure out any option but the simple .... Mark INACTIVE

or keep telling me same thing...click the name and send reminder even though I said I DO NOT HAVE THAT option. only thing it said was IF YOU HAVENT HEARD BACK...Contact directly.

How do I resend a 1099 invitation if the contractor cannot view it because it expired?

This is my EXACT PROBLEM for several contractors and I agree, it should be a very simple fix. I'm only using this software due to advice from my accountant however I do wish I would have shopped around more because this has not been as easy as it should be.

How do I resend a 1099 invitation if the contractor cannot view it because it expired?

Is this is still an issue? I finished 1099's this AM and two hours later got emails from vendors stating that when they clicked the link it said "This invitation has expired".  Has anyone found an actual solution on how to fix this issue? I am on my 3rd call today with support trying to figure out how to resolve it.  Deleting and reentering all of my vendors is not a reasonable solution.

How do I resend a 1099 invitation if the contractor cannot view it because it expired?

Hi TNMFinance!

I understand that you need to invite your contractors to enter their details online. Allow me to assist you in fixing this.

If they clicked the invitation link from the email and didn't finish the setup, it'll show as expired the second time they'll click it. However, you can resend the invitation by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Worker/Payroll menu and select Contractors.
  2. Select contractor's name.
  3. Press on the hyperlinked Send a reminder beside the contractor's name.

Also, once they clicked and accepted the invitation, they'll have a QuickBooks Self-Employed account. You'll want to advise them to log in using this link: https://selfemployed.intuit.com/login#/contractor/clients.

I added this link if you need a detailed guide on how to file 1099: Create and file 1099s using QuickBooks Online.

How do I resend a 1099 invitation if the contractor cannot view it because it expired?

I am having the same problem. My contractor just needs me to send it to a different email address. I went in to update the email address and now the "send a reminder" is gone. Nothing I do seems to make this come back. Rather than making every single person contact customer service in a live chat, maybe resolve the problem??

There isn’t a “send a reminder” option available.

How do I resend a 1099 invitation if the contractor cannot view it because it expired?

Hi, TNMFinance.

I'm here to share some possible reasons why the Send a reminder link is missing in the contractor's window. Once you set up their profile inside QuickBooks, the link will be removed automatically. This can be the reason why you're unable to find it.

To fix this, let's resend the invite to your contractors.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Workers menu.
  2. Select Contractors.
  3. Click the Send a reminder link.

If you can't resend the invite, it could be that the details of the contractor have been completed. I suggest following steps 1 to in the Send an invite to existing contractors article to make the Send a reminder link available again.

Additionally, I've included this article for reference in case you want to edit your contractor's payment in the future: Add or edit contractor payments (for 1099 filings).

I'm just here to help you if there's anything else that you need assistance about resend invites to view 1099s. You take care always and have a great day!

Not the case here. In fact, the link WAS there until I updated the contractor's information.

How do I resend a 1099 invitation if the contractor cannot view it because it expired?

I am also unable to resend an invite. There is no "resend" option. And no option to delete the contractor and start again, just a "make inactive" option. I've tried three browsers on two desktops after clearing the cache on all. Sorry to burst QBO's bubble, but it's clearly a problem you're not willing to admit is a problem! Either remove the service (and reduce our fees) or make it work! Thank you for any actual helpful assistance.

How do I resend a 1099 invitation if the contractor cannot view it because it expired?

It appears no one has been able to get it working. I can only hope the earlier posters come back and report what they had to do to get it fixed. There is no reminder link, the "Waiting for info" text is there but not clickable and my sanity is done for now.

No it is still a problem.  1 hour on phone and their solution.  Inactivate contractor and create new.  That sounds like a poor solution.  Now I'm stuck with offering it manually to the contractors to get it done.   QB doesn't know how to fix the "resend" option.

How do I resend a 1099 invitation if the contractor cannot view it because it expired?

I am having the same problem and seeing the same useless run around by the QB "experts".  One of my contractors has requested a new invitation to access his 1099  NOT TO INPUT HIS TAX INFO, OR SET UP DIRECT DEPOSIT ETC. ETC.

I DON'T have a WORKERS tab as many experts keep suggesting to go to.  I have Payroll tab to get to Contractors.

There is NO hyperlink to resend the 1099.  I've even looked at my other contractors who I generated 1099s for and NO HYPERLINKS.

I clean my cache - no change.

This SHOULD be simple especially with the amount of money they are now charging.

How do I resend a 1099 invitation if the contractor cannot view it because it expired?

Thanks for reaching out to the Community, ladet. I appreciate your detailed information.

I tested this myself in our test drive account and encountered the same issue. Upon clicking to a contractor's profile who's already been invited, there's no Send a reminder link available to use.

Here's an image showing my experience:

I also performed all of Intuit's troubleshooting steps for browser-related issues and tried in multiple browsing applications. Each time I received the same result, no Send a reminder link.

After testing it out myself and noticing the same issues you're mentioning, I took a look through our investigations and found Intuit's most recent one about this topic. Its case number is INV-70583.

The investigation is currently closed and an official workaround was noted in it by Intuit's Product Investigations team. Your best option when this occurs is to delete the contractor profile by making it inactive, adding them back into your books with a new profile, and making sure the option to email them to complete their profile is ticked.

Here's how to delete a contractor profile by making it inactive:

  1. From your Contractors screen, find a contractor you want to delete, then click their display name.
  2. Underneath their display name, where it says "Active", use the available drop-down arrow ().
  3. Select Mark as inactive.

Here's how to create a new profile for them and make sure they're sent an invitation email once its created:

  1. From your Contractors screen, click Add a contractor.
  2. Enter their Name and Email.
  3. Be sure to leave the Email this contractor to complete their profile. They'll get their own account to safely share their personal details. option turned on. This will assure they receive an email invitation. If it was turned off, tick its check box to turn it back on before proceeding.
  4. Select Add contractor.

If you create a contractor profile without emailing them an invitation to complete their personal details, you can click their display name, Send email, then Send to invite them.

Once they've set up their profile, they'll be able to access their 1099 form(s) by going to the Clients menu, then opening the Forms tab.

You'll also be able to find many detailed resources about using QuickBooks in our help article archives.

Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any questions. Have an awesome day!

How do I resend a 1099 invitation if the contractor cannot view it because it expired?

Zack,

First off, I applaud you for actually LISTENING to people, and LOOKING at the issue, rather than the standard QB response of how important we are, and cut/pasting the same steps that aren't working.  You are the FIRST person I have seen do that, so kudos to you.

But seriously.  This is a closed issue?  Creating duplicate records is the permanent solution to a critical function that simply doesn't work?  This is unacceptable.  Please add my comment to this 'closed' ticket, or if possible, open a new one to address this.  Contractor records are a critical function, and we are on our 4th duplicate record for ONE contractor, and it is still not functioning.  This level of functionality is a joke.  It should not be this difficult.

How do I resend a 1099 invitation if the contractor cannot view it because it expired?

I have this exact same issue.  I chatted on the phone with an "expert" who instead of fixing the problem, they actually made me aware of more functions on Quickbooks online that were not showing up for an unknown reason.  The payroll settings are also completely missing.  The phone call ended with no solution whatsoever for the missing functionality of the program, or the contractor resend link issue.  I'm amazed that something seemingly so simple is not fixed yet.  Very unhappy with the level of customer support.

We work hard to provide a quick solution for every customer's issue, @JMJell. This is not an experience we want you to have. Rest assured that we will use your feedback to coach our support and improve the service we offer in the future.

I checked our records, and there haven't been any documented instances of a missing Payroll Settings and Send a reminder option in QuickBooks Online. Have you tried the troubleshooting steps mentioned to my colleagues above? Consider the following:

  • Using incognito mode or a browser
  • Delete the cache and cookies
  • Use various browsers
  • Make the contractor inactive and re-create them in the system

If you did already and the issue persists, I'd recommend contacting our Technical Support Team again. In this manner, they may further check into this missing option issue with our engineering team and suggest more troubleshooting methods to get this fixed. To reach our support, you can follow the steps that LeizylM outlined above. Make sure to check their availability for a swift reply.

Furthermore, once they accepted the invitation, they'll have a QuickBooks Self-Employed account. You'll want to advise them to log in using this link: https://selfemployed.intuit.com/login#/contractor/clients.

If you require a comprehensive tutorial on how to file a 1099 and edit contractor payments, I've included these links below:

If you have any further questions, please respond to this message, and we will be happy to assist you. Keep safe.

How do I resend a 1099 invitation if the contractor cannot view it because it expired?

I am having the same issue. All my invitations are “expired” as soon as my contractor receives the email and I have no option to resend. I reported this issue 6 weeks ago to support and still no resolution! I have now collected W9s manually and all my contractors are getting the same error when they try to open the 1099 from the email. This needs to be handled as an URGENT issue as it is now mid January!
